represent minimum raise offered by bart management. the transit system said it's offering a 2% per year raise but out of that employee woz have to increase payments to their health care coverage and have to start contributing to pension plan and remaining money would be aloe indicated on the basis after tend yens and performance. >> union saying it pencils out and that everybody will get a raise of $1. >> they asked us for a proposal to keep everybody in the black and we delivered that. >> 1s sndz. >> there is more to it than that foremost employees. i haven't seen exact numbers. >> suffice to say there is a great deal of game playing when it comes to newspapers. union started out asking for a

5% per year pay raise. management offering 2% per year but with give backs. safe to say both sides still far apart and no talks scheduled the rest of today we've been told by both bart management spokesmen and union officials they will get a hold of us if there is any movement back to the table. >> hard to hear out there, thank you so much. some turned to casual carpooling to help them get to work. >> something as small as kindness of a stranger willing to bring others into the city today that. made this bart strike commute much more bearable. commuters hoping to avoid gridlock to get across the bay bridge turned to casual

carpooling as a way into the city and out of the strike headache. leslie waited in north berkeley as a packed buses passed her by. >> they asked if anyone needs to go to the city. and the three of us got in. it was awesome. >> on a typical day carpoolers can meet in the east bay and san francisco. but during this strike, bart is offering its 35 stations for spots. >> i had a fun commute this morning. >> this resident wished she'd carpooled for the first day of her new job. >> i go to the bart station. i thought there is a bus there. but i had to take the bus to oakland. >> to encourage people the transportation commission is expanding hours.

on san francisco because that is where everyone is making their get away. appears we're in single digits now and all streets that flank 80 freeway is jam packed right now. all streets are packed at this hour. right now golden gate is starting to load up 25 miles per hour as awe approach the bridge 47 aconsiders and making into sausalito does start to loosen up here, is a look. 80 to the maze. a 20 minute commute. 580 is 20 minutes into fremont. outside live, right now that, appears to be a 20-minute zrif drive. just within an hour we're seeing plenty more cars on the roads.

delayed because of a group claiming to be occupied pro testors at 3:45 they started blocking buses at the bart station. police cleared them away. these are charter buses picking people up. from there they're transported. >> morning commute took spokes more than two hours on a bus to get from oakland to san francisco. let's take a look at sky 7 hd at temporary transbay, do you know what? this is not the transbay terminal. this is the skyway. look at that traffic very, very slow. taking a look at people who hand over commuting changes in the morning.

got long lines for you. this is the line that went out to the bay. now, it's moving here as they get closer to the glait. the lines go through the area. and they wind up to the embark dareo we knew going in the crunch time would be between five and 5:30. it's been a rerun of the morning commute. this morning san francisco bay ferry system handled nearly 8,000 riders. it's shaping up for another situation from evening commute all 11 ferries are in commute. hours being extended ask a lot of people are rearranging their lives. >> it took me a point to get to he canland ferry at 6:00.

and from some reason they're here until 7:00. >> what about now? >> now, i'm early, again. yes. >> and we have seen an added presence around ferry bimding including use of explosive sniffing dogs there have been no threats. there are so many people here because of the strike the areas are getting added scrutiny. this morning golden gate system loaned them one vote. they will not have a ferry tonight but will have it again tomorrow morning for the commute. they're trying to get it for tomorrow evening's commute as well. >> thank you. join us again at 4:00 tomorrow morning for the bart strike. traffic reporter will bring

you latest on contract negotiations and how this is expecting your weekday commute. >> we have a lit of horj nous get to. a fast muflg brush fire came close to several ranch homes in contra costa county this afternoon raising through dozens of acres near concord. abc 7 news joins us live near the scene. leanne? >> well, that hillside behind me tells the story. this entire road, by the way between concord and pittsburgh is closed because fire continues to spread. let's show you what sky 7 has for you. cal fire says they have contained about 25% of the fire. problem has been the heat. winds and terrain. outhouses have been destroyed by flames.

let's show you ground shots. the helicopter and bombers have been flying over the area for several hours now pouring water over the fire. flames moving quickly. it brought down some paralyzed. a few sheds have been destroyed. >> it's been very difficult. you can see around us, the hills are very, very steep through here, that presents a problem they can't navigate canyons. >> now, firefighters have been trying to cut a fire line to try to contain that fire. the temperatures out here is about 103 and 104, perhaps warmer where i am it's

and 74 in oakland, here comes the fog. you can see just a shallow layer there. 99 in livermore. and it was a threatening sky, thunderstorms earlier, dark clouds and a bouncy camera keeping a possibility of thunderstorms in the forecast. heat throughout wednesday, hottest day will be tomorrow, cooling beginning at the end of the week. let's show you pacific satellite picture. you'll notice this big ridge over us going to keep us into hot weather regime through wednesday. and we'll see changes tonight into tomorrow, occasional high clouds from the south. could add more humidity to the air. so if you're traveling to tahoe just keep that in mind. mid-50s along the coastline to
