pointed sfmta traffic enforcement officer. once people get through it, they have gridlock them. get onto the bay bridge. take a look an hour ago at this time lapse video. people started trying to leave the city. we saw the back up about 1:00 this afternoon. traffic is diminished thanks to casual carpoolers. ntc is sort of rewarding people extending hov lane hours. if you have three or more people in your car you can use carpool lanes all day for the duration of the strike. one casual carpooler was surprised more people weren't taking advantage. >> i get on the carpool after 7:00 a.m. and this time i got out there after 6:00 a.m. i didn't see many people waiting. it's not a line up of cars waiting to gelt people up.

buses have been jam packed every seat taken. ac transit worker told me this isui q a change from a typical day. they have a dozen or so empty seats on the bus. people left work today but early birds were forced to wait a while. commuters are frustrated riders are tired. >> it's horrible. they need to give bart people whatever sit they need so we can get to work on time. we're all dealing with it there. is no fighting. >> normally might be a dozen people on this bus. >> yes. >> i don't know. >> 40? 50 snem. >> yes. i'm antilabor. i hate strikes. >> i understand negotiations on each side but they're crippling the bay area in terms of traffic and people getting around. it's sad.

from the ferry building. john? >> human cattle drive continuing. behind me the line moving is for oakland ferry going out to embarcadero. beyond them, you can see brick wall that is a line for main street terminal. if you swing around this, line sfor the ferry going to the harbor bay terminal. some are having to wait. the sills s.system is running 11 boats. that is the same number as this morning about three times more than normal. to move thing as long officials asking passengers to use a clipper card or to buy their tickets before they get on the ferry in oakland and in vallejo this, has been a repeat of the morning commute.

good news is that it seems firefighters have the upper hand. the cause so far we're told unknown, i'm live at kerker pass road abc 7 news. thank you. >> an on duty firefighter arrested this weekend after the fire truck he was driving collided with a motorcycle. police say he was drunk, then left the scene. that and the back story you'll see on abc 7 news. >> michael quinn is a 23 year veteran with the police department. friends say he's never been in trouble before. in fact he's a decorated firefighter. saturday his life took a turn. >> in june a fast moving fire raced through the baldwin hotel. veteran firefighter was one of the firefighters who received

a service award for rescuing 20 people. four years later won another award for rescuing a construction worker. saturday night with siren on the truck responded to a call of smoke in a building south of market near 5th and howard. he turned the truck police say it hit a motorcycle. the rider taken to san francisco general. police say he left the scene and disappeared for several hours before returning. investigators gave him a breathalyzer test which showed an alcohol reading of.16. last month the 43-year-old survived a 500 foot fall when his hang glider plunged into the waters. police booked him for a d. ui and leaving the scene.
