extra folks on the roads to get an early start. we have construction and this will be in san jose if you are traveling northbound on 880 to 280 to forest avenue lanes will be blocked until 6:00 a.m. and at the altamont pass if you are in the westbound direction 580 at slim road that is where we have a car fire with one lane blocked and the hillside is reported to be catching on fire so it is an active scene. that is contributing to a minute extra in commute so you have 25 minutes to westbound a 80 and antioch to the maze is 38 minutes. back to san jose, this is going to be 280, coming away from 17 and it is looking quiet and clear. >> don't expect the bart strike to end soon. while you slept bart and the unions made no movement toward a

new contract our transportation reporter is at the lake merritt station in oakland. heather? >> heather: we are taking a hit but the workers, the union workers, say it is worth it in the long run. they are apologizing today to the commuters. the pickets are wearing a groove in the concrete. they have been at it for 28 1/2 hours. like yesterday, the same theme is unfolding at a dozen bay area locations picketing and rallying is all that was happening yesterday with each waiting for the other to make a move. the unions say they need a better offer to get back to the table. the transit union a.t.u. met with the lawyers preparing a response to bart's last offer which was from saturday.

bart's negotiating team went home at 7:00 last night saying it is just waiting for the union response. no talks materialized yesterday but nothing is scheduled today, either, and the district said there is plenty of room for movement because neither side submitted the last, best, and final office. >> we would like to get to negotiations or the trains running. we have not heard from the unions or from the mediator. >> we understand the plight of the commuters and we sorry. bart has not come to the table. >> no talks are scheduled for today but the laws were meeting yesterday and trying to come up with something to present to bart so, perhaps, today after the first flurry of pick oating and going the strike yesterday, there is a chance they could get

back to the table today. at lake merritt for abc7 news. >> bart is hoping to get an extra few thousand across the bay to expand the shuttle service from yesterday. amy hollyfield is at the dublin/pleasanton station. amy? >> bart has tweeted their plan a little bit. this map shows they have added a location of where to pick up a round-trip free bus ride into san francisco. you can now go to the west oakland bart station which is located on 7th street between 5:00 this morning and 9:00 this morning to grab a ride. the four locations from yesterday are still good today and that is el cerrito, crack correct, fremont, and dublin with a bus there between 5:00 and 8:00. the round trip ride is free and it went smooth yesterday. we covered this in walnut creek. there were plenty of seats there. bart officials are still asking

to please work from home today if you can. they pointed out the buses cannot completely replace the trains or carry the same load. if you need to get to the city, this is an option if you need it but if you can, stay home. today you now have a new location as an option at the west oakland bart station. >> in oakland, buses were delayed by those claiming to be occupy protesters blocking the buses at the bart station. after 45 minutes bart police cleared them away. no one was arrested. these are charter buses picking up people from san francisco to bring them to the west own station. the commuters are then transported to four bart stations in the east bay. >> one of the worst commute hotspots yesterday was the bay bridge toll plaza with newcomers confused by fast track and

carpool lane and abuse of carpool lanes. abc7 news reporter covers that story. >> the commute was a total mess yesterday. we are waiting to see if the huge backups we witnessed yesterday will be in affect again today as bart strike, day twos continues. we have a lot more traffic at 4:00 a.m. compared to year. a lot of commuters, perhaps, getting a jump on things by getting out the door early and getting over the bridge to avoid the backups. monday this were lots of frustrated driver whose sat in cash-paying lanes crawling along. one drive said it took two hours to get from walnut creek to the toll plaza. another saying it too 90 minutes to get from east oakland to the toll plaza. that driver's van overheated.

caltran said it is bringing in extra toll takers to accommodate the crush expected here at the toll plaza in the next couple of hours. carpool is the best bet, casual carpool if you can. carpool lanes are closed at this hour and open at 5:00 a.m. and fast track was running very well yesterday. cash-paying lanes, not is much. if you have fast track, that is your best bet. >> we have the information you need to get through the bart strike including all the commute options on the web site at abc7 news co. you can down led our waze traffic app to negotiate the freeways and be sure to follow us on twitter. >> breaking news in oakland from the grand lake district. police have confirmed to abc7

news that two employees of a wing stop were shot and killed inside the restaurant last night. this happened around the corner from the grand lake theater. abc7 news reporter is there. matt? >> in the past half hour the alameda county coroner arrived on the scene on lake park avenue at the restaurant. officers confirmed two employees were shot and killed inside the restaurant just before midnight. police are not releasing details and are investigating if it is a robbery. possibly there was another motive. this is in grand lake district. the warning went out three hours before the shooting from oakland police about an increase in armed robberies in the area andbly say they were increasing patrols. no word on possible suspects or arrests. we expect to talk to police shortly with the latest information right here.

>> thank you, matt. >> we want to turn it over to leyla gulen in the traffic center to see where the hotspots are. >> we have a couple of hotspots, and as we take you to highway 17 we have a report of debris this the lane, northbound sired, fought causing slowing to that area as you inch closer to highway nine you will see a tap on the break we are seeing big slow downs over the altamont pass westbound side of 580, this is where we have a car fire reported and that car fire is blocking the two lanes and it is catching the hillside on fire with lots of vegetation in the area. you are looking at half an hour drive to get from tracy to dublin. at walnut creek right now we will look at what is happening on 680, it is looking clear but go see a few extra tail lights away from highway four to the junction with the 24 and that is an eight-minute commute so not

too bad. but it will be bad is the heat. mike nicco, what is happening with the forecast? >> good morning, everyone, you can see the mid-level moisture rolling in from the south and we have a few radar returns. it is not raining but the clouds are keeping our temperatures up this morning. check out our picture from sutro tower. it looks clean. our ozone level today shows people wondering where the "spare the air" alert was. it was clear in the low levels but murky upstairs because of the moisture in the area. today, again, not a spare spay -- "spare the air" ahurt but a flex alert to say electricity. up to 68 by 7:00. many areas in the 70's now will cool in the 60's before we

>> covering fremont, palo alto and all bay area this is abc7 news. >> this is a picture of the bay bridge toll plaza from sky 7 or near the toll plaza as the maze empties. there is a lot of extra traffic on the road early on this tuesday morning. obviously, that is because of the bart strike. the san francisco bay ferry expects another busy day as riders stranded by bart use the ferries to cross the bay. we go to the terminal in oakland. there are not a lot of people yet. >> no one yet. yesterday, the first ferry passengers showed up at 5:30 and i am curious to see what time

they show up this morning. they could think everyone was fine or if it was hectic, they may have reconsidered and decided to show up earlier. talking about experiences, look at this video from yesterday, this was the experience that thousands had at the ferry building if san francisco on the embarcadero around 8:30 waiting for the last ferry of the night to bring them back here to the east bay. certainly not an easy way to end the long work day. >> trying to figure out if you will make it through this on time and i am talking about this ferry right here. >> the numbers we expect this morning if yesterday is any indication, 11 ferries will take more than 7,800 people across the bay, three times the normal. golden gate ferry had an extra boat in the morning and that will be back this morning.

yesterday they were able to take an extra 400 people across the bay. every bit helps, right? this morning the city of san francisco is using city signs to help drivers find a place that park. signs are lit up along the embarcadero giving information of available parking garages and the number of open spaces. usually the signs are used to update drives of traffic opposite embarcadero or to post giants game update. leyla gulen is checking the traffic indicators. hopefully not seeing any red just yet. >> we are, kristen. i will show you where. red on a couple of accounts, with lots of brake lights because of a car fire, westbound 580 at not flynn road we are down to 25 miles per hour, and 11 miles per hour in some places. that is taking on a few extra minutes if you are headed out of tracy to dublin and 30 minutes from the westbound direction.

the bridges an the bay area show the toll plaza with cash-paying lanes loading up. eight minutes gets you from the maze to san francisco. it is quite good at this hour. the golden gate bridge shows four short minutes to head out of sausalito to san francisco and a little bit of fog blanketing the area there, use the low beams, not the high beams and san mateo is quite clear and wide open, as well. the move from hayward to foster city is just 12 minutes and 11 minutes if you are traveling westbound along the dumbarton. the bringing are -- bridges are in good shape. mike? >> there 8 be 100's taking over the north bay and east bay valley so it will be the hottest day in the forecast. live doppler 7 hd showing radar runs bumping into the mid-level

clouds that were coming up at us from the south from the thunderstorms that fell apart before they made it. no rain outside of that but the add humiditity are keeping the temperatures warm with a lost 70's in the east bay valley. half moon bay is less than eighth of a mile at half moon bay and santa rosa is around four so hazy and foggy conditions. in san francisco, you can see the cloud cover in the distance. hazy sunshine is our number one forecast with more heat today. excessive heat through when and it will be manageable this weekend. the golden gate bridge shows not as cloudy as yesterday but it will become that way headed in the afternoon hours. our highs compared to average is 12 togethers warmer in san francisco and san jose and 17 in san rafael to livermore at 85 is the normal and below

temperatures today. warmer around redwood city at 98 and the 90's from san mateo south and low-to-mid 70's along the coast from half moon bay at 72, daly city at 70 and south san francisco is 80. 85 in sausalito and 100's in santa rosa and napa. and the east bay shore mid-to-upper 80's for berkeley, oakland, and newark and everyone else, richmond, hercules, castro valley, union city, low-to-mid 90's. a last you do not have air conditioning but hopefully you can stay cool with 100's throughout the east bay valley. overnight, as warm as this morning, and the high clouds are out there and some low clouds along the coast. a few 70's are hanging out, again, in the east bay valley and that will be the last really

had yesterday. and the folks with fast track trans ponders are going through at the speed limit with no delays. right now i am in a cash lane on the left-hand side of the toll plaza and you can see we have a pretty good little backup going with 10 or 15 or 20-car backup at the toll gates. the folks are having to pay cash to get through that are in the backup, the folks with the fast track trans ponder, they have no problem. the metering lights are not on so if you have a fast track trans ponder you are in good shape. >> the car pool discount $2.50 opposed to $6 that does not begin for a few minutes so does that affect how many car poolers you see? >> actually, you are right.

if you look off to the left of the perth you can see the far two left lanes are closed, those are the carpool lanes when the carpool program kicks off this morning and of course to carpool you have to have a fast track trans ponder, so, again, that is the way to go. if you are carpooling, the casual carpool pickup spots seem to be of benefit in this situation. >> just make sure you have three people in the car because chop has no sense of humor about this if you have fewer than three people and you try to use the carpool lanes. >> right now we will turn it over to leyla gulen in the abc7 news traffic center. >> going back to the fast track trans bonder for a moment if you do not have one and you go through you get a ticket, however, when you get the ticket, if you do sign up for

fast track they waive the violation fee which is about $25 so all you have to pay is the $6 toll and you have a fast track but that is, again, if you are willing to sign up for fast track if you go through the lanes. right now, what is happening in the santa cruz mountains, we are going to look at a slow down, northbound side at the area here there is concrete in the roadway. watch out for that. on the waze app, i will show you what we are tracking, and this is a car fire and here is a picture of it, a fuzzy picture but you can see the fire trucks off to the right blocking two lanes as we make the commute from the altamont pass and toward livermore, this is due to a car fire that caught vegetation on fire. mike nicco? how is the weather? >> hot temperatures. that is the big story later. we are looking at live doppler 7

hd and you can see they are tracking a few sprinkles near the coast which is the storms to the south that are coming across the sky bringing the mid-level moisture keeping the temperatures up overnight and so that is what is happening right now. do not be surprised if you get a sprinkle or two through the morning but this is no rain in the forecast. this is just going to make it feel muggy and warm. we have triple digits on the way and more on that coming up. >> it is 4:56, more than a thousand people came out to remember 19 firefighters killed while battling a wildfire in arizona. yesterday's memorial is one of many planned in the town of prescott. early in the day the bodies of the firefighters were wrought to the morgue. the career was trapped by the flames on sunday. is the deadliest wildfire since
