>> live from the kgo-tv broadcast center this is abc7 news. >> good morning, on wednesday at 4:30 on day three of the bart strike. >> bart labor negotiations will resume after eight hours of talks last night. riders may have reason for optimism after two trust traiting days of trying to get around the bay area. abc7 news reporter amy hollyfield has our coverage from oakland. >> they talked for hours which has to be a good sign. better than not talking at all but no end to the contract dispute. plan today as if the strike will continue throughout the day. as far as we know right now trains will not be running. the strike continues. the two sides did work all night long. food was brought in at 9:00

indicating that it was going to be a long night. it started at 6:30, and lasted until 3:00 this morning. the difference this time is too high level mediators had seats at the table that were appointed by governor brown. they decided at 3:00 a.m. they needed a break. >> it is late. we decided we will make more progress if we get sleep. we worked very hard together. along with fine mediators assigned by the governor. we have been asked not to speak to the press other than make the single comment. i wish you a good night. >> they will meet again at 1:00 o'clock this afternoon. both sides are feeling the pressure: lt. governor and the insurance commissioner have made comments how this strike needs to end. bart does have some progress to report reaching a deal with a

and on the golden gate bridge that is looking clear across the bay and into friend walnut creek shows the cars are making the drive southbound along 680. it is still an eight-minute commute if you need to take it away from highway four to the skunks with highway 24. >> a.c. transit buses will handle a crush of riders displaced by bart. abc7 news reporter is in downtown oakland the we saw a bottleneck there yesterday during the commute. matt? >> at 20th and broadway some say it took two or three hours to get to work so getting early to avoid the lines pay off. yesterday, this was an a.c. transit bus in san francisco

during the peak commuter hours, the lines were longer earlier compared to monday. will the holiday tomorrow keep more home? or will everyone try to get another day of work in. a man told me why he showed up at 4:00 this morning. >> i don't want a three hour commute on the bay bridge. yesterday i was first in line and i got a seat but for the second stop on 12th and broadway there -- the driver told people they could not get in. the early bird gets the worm. >> he arrives early for work and gets coffee and breakfast better than being relaxed for the morning rather than sitting on a packed bus. more are like him trying to avoid the commuter hours from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. enjoying coffee and breakfast in the city

rather than a packed bus. >> transit workers have volunteering helping with crowded conditions while they are involved with contract talks. negotiations are progressing and the two sireds will meet today and the union has promised to give riders 24 hours' notice if they strike. >> frustration is growing at casual carpool meeting points with long lines and confusion in oakland and san francisco yesterday. many people showed up only to discover they were at the wrong pickup spot. there are a lot of first timers and many drivers who stopped picked up as company as they could fit in the vehicle. parking lots in downtown san francisco will fill early today and one garage was 75 percent full before 8:00, with lots and garages only honoring monthly parking passes and other charges are charging $7 an hour or $40 a

settlements has been made for occupy protesters. the oakland tribune reports that the protesters were struck by bean bags or grenades fired by officers during occupy protests ok 25 and november 2nd in 2010. the city has agreed to perform or reform crowd control policy and allow the federal courts to oversee the compliance with a policy for the next seven years. >> oakland will dismiss all parking tickets issued during a one day strike of city workers on monday after announcing there will be no parking enforcement during the walkout but one reported to work and wrote citations. you did not have to contest it to is it dismissed. >> eve bay firefighters hoping the board of supervisors will reconsider the planned closure of a fire station in pittsburg on monday following a brushfire

that overwhelmed them this week. east contra costa county crewed had a hard time maintaining the fire because of strong winds. the fire spread to 492 acres and destroyed two sheds and a barn. no one was hurt. the firefighters union said they had seven alarms working simultaneously that day and the district had to rely on surrounding agencies for help. now leyla gulen is honoring the roads to see when we will see the start wave drivers. >> not yet. we have a way of drivers but not a wave of heavy congestion. i will show you our drive time traffic at 580 from tracy to dublin and the commute along westbound 5ator is 25 minutes and 12 minutes to get through walnut creek and to 580. we are also hearing from sky 7 that there is a lot of fog if you are head through the tunnel, watch out that and use the low beams. 80 eastbound and westbound, it

is looking clear between highway four and the maze at 13 minutes. in san jose, this is going to be your northbound 280 ambassador from 17 you can see dark picture out this not seeing any tail light except -- you will see tail lights, not headlights. a quiet commute in the northbound and southbound direction. >> tracking clouds this morning, the marine layer is deeper than yesterday and you can see it is covering the bay and also as you mention all the way up into the east bay hills. now, it will take it fought very long to get out of the way today but, possibly, by 10:00 or 11:00 we will see sunshine. the as i understand is from the west at 14 miles per hour so you know the marine layer is back. it will temper the heat.

you can see low clouds in himryville and the day planner is cooler this morning at 56 to 63 degrees, for more mid-to-upper 70's like yesterday. at noon, 64 at coast and 88 inland and hot in the east bay valley and interior east bay, that is where most of the heat will be where you will get to 100. 66 at the coast and a summer spread 66 to 86. the golden gate bridge this morning shows reduced visibility here, and we will get to 100 one more day on thursday and we are back in the 80's by saturday and 70's around the bay and 60's at the coast close to where we should be. kristen and eric? >> we continue to follow the latest developments in the bart strike of the. >> pictures of the guantanamo ty bridge toll plaza which is still okay the car lanes are not open yet. they will be in 20 minutes.

abc7 news reporter cornell bernard joins from the toll plaza. is the third morning there. do you notice any changes? >> i am afraid not. it is clear that the morning commute is on. we are already seeing a backup in the left three cash-paying lanes. the traffic is now backed up to the grand avenue overcrossing. people were hoping this would not happen. we do not normally see a backup at 4:45 a.m. but this are no bart trains running. heard, we saw so much frustration on the faces of drives who had just sat in commutes up to two hours from places like eastern contra costa county. right lanes, fast track lanes are looking good and moving through, free and clear and the metering lights are off and fast track will get you through much

quicker. if you do not have fast track, try to carpool with the carpool lanes opening in 15 minutes. we are in oakland for abc7 news. >> ferry service is seeing a huge increase in ridership because of the bart strike and snowed no exception with abc7 news reporter at the oakland ferry terminal. i remember pictures of the lines yesterday, unbelievable. it was but the ridership was down. as we wait for the first ferry requireds to show up this morning, i can let you know it seems like a good place to start the commute with extra packing and free shuttles from the off site parking and stacks of the shuttle maps that are letting riders nowhere they can be picked up to make it for the

commute. use look at the video from yesterday, the evening commute, people leaving the ferry building in san francisco, you get an idea of how crowded the boats are. as crowded as they look, the ridership was down 400 fewer ferry riders yesterday gist for the morning, for tuesday morning, compared to monday morning. today is up in the air and it will be interesting to see what the numbers turnout to be because term is a holiday, the fourth of july, and we expect the numbers to be way down and it will be quiet with days off work. because it is a holiday some of the ferry routes are on a holiday schedule so check before you head out if you are planning on taking a ferry toll. as if today, here, right now, the ferry service from main street in alameda to south san francisco is regular but from here to the ferry building in san francisco on the embarcadero, that is a direct route and the boats are not stopping in oakland. first ferry is at 6:00 a.m.

course, because there is no service but ace trains and muni and everything is looking clear. we will keep our eye on that. if you are in the east bay, it will be day six for the heat. it is quiet this morning. we have cloud cover along the coast and in the bay. some of the cooler weather from that marine layer has moved in the east bay valley. we were stuck in the 70's this time yesterday and now most of us in the low-to-mid 60's with conquer at 60 degrees and 66 in danville and 63 in dublin and 65 in brentwood and the hills are only 73. yesterday it was 80 so you know how warm the air mass was. all the 50's including 59 at foster city and 57 in district and calistoga and 55 in novato.

in is emeryville this morning, a lot of low clouds and by the afternoon, all the heavy sunshine with the heat holding on in the interior section of the east bay and tomorrow the summer spread could be a 40-degree difference between inland and the coast. the cloud cover is here through the morning commute. by 10:00 it is back to the coast. in the afternoon hours you will have pockets of sunshine with greens indicating temperatures in the 60's, the reds and oranges are in the 70's and 80's and the dark red is 90's and 100's. 99 in los gatos. and low 90's for most of the south bay with 92 in san jose. a lost 80's throughout the peninsula from 80 in millbrae to 87 in palo alto, and mid-to-upper 60's along the coast and mid-70's in downtown and south san francisco and sausalito is 78 and 88 in san

metering lights are not on but looking ahead on the bridge itself i do see some brake lights so traffic is flowing on the bridge. the other thing to point out to you on the drive on highway 24, coming from the tunnel, you may want to be cautious for low-lying fog in there. it is not quit down on the roadway but it is in pockets relatively heavy so caution should be used. as you mentioned earlier, use the low beaumonts, not the high beams. kristen? >> yes, at 4:00 or 5:00, and it is already heavy. >> leyla gulen is watching that and the rest of the traffic. people are getting an early start. it is absolutely packed.

as you come from emeryville to san francisco at the golden gate bridge, you will see what is happening, it is foggy. you want to use the low beams and not the hire beams. four minutes get you from sausalito to san francisco and the san mateo bridge and we are going to be at top spied but extra tail lights are making it in the westbound direction headed out of hayward to foster city. we will take it to mike nicco and see what is happening in the weather department. and the coliseum will be a big night. we won last night with fireworks tonight so have a blanket and probably a sweater or sweatshirt because it is the mid-60's by the time we get to the fireworks after another great game.

thunderstorms are moving through the desert again and we will see high clouds in our neighborhood but, still, over 100 driving through the central valley. if you are headed up to tahoe, flash flood warnings with heavy rain this, and as we hold to the next couple of days for independence day, it will be dry and quieter and cooler and no more record highs. tv i be in the low 80's throughout the weekend. >> and east bay regional park workers have called off a fourth of july after reaching a tentative contract deal. a two-day walk out was planned for tomorrow and friday by more than 600 park workers including rangers, firefighters and lifeguards and the union now says it recommended workers aproven the deal reached monday night with wage increases but workers have to trip more to help cough their retirement costs. >> officers will be out in force this fourth of july in search of
