it and some breaking news from the sierra. uc santa cruz. a student was killed after a freak accident at a popular summer camp. a large tree fell on her and she was having breakfast outside of the dining hall. she was very active with the campus radio station. four other adults were injured and taken to the hospital. they're expected to survive. now this video shows just how big the tree was when openeling over. a spokesperson says none of the 250 children attending the program was hurt. the camp is popular with families and the organization head quarters in san francisco. abc 7 news reporter nannit miranda is there. we'll hear from the young girl's mother. >> now, the unions and transit agency are meeting right now hoping to forth a deal.

>> yes. fingers crossed but no news is not helping the frustrated commuters for hundreds of thousands of residents still struggling to get around. >> we have live team coverage for you. >> let's begin with laura anthony live in oakland with the latest. laura, any real progress? >> not that we've heard of. negotiations did start right on time at 1:00 this afternoon. so they've been at it now in the building behind me about three hours. the bart team negotiating team arrived together just before 1:00. there are about a dozen of them. the union negotiator arrived in smaller groups all they'd say is that they're quote, hopeful. we've not heard yet of any progress or new proposals exchanged between the two sides there there is a new state mediator involved.

in terms prof gres we know they took a break then went back at it. there is no timetable for ending these talks. we do know that when an agreement is reached, bart tells us it will take about 12 hours to get the trains up and running. so people should be aware of that. in oakland abc 7 news. >> we are live at first and harrison streets now. how is traffic looking there? >> people tried to beat the traffic by leaving early. we got here early as well and it started getting ugly, congested by 2:00, 2:30. let me show what you parks and traffic continues to do is take the all hands on deck approach by moving their people to the very busy intersections to try to keep

abc 7 news is live at the temporary trance bay terminal. people are lining up for a ride yes we're on beal. and the big problem is just too much of everything. buses and shuttles in particular are adding to congestion of extra cars coming through whether people just trying to get home or trying to pick people up this, black tie, black gray bus behind is interesting. this is a bart shuttle. a charter. he says at 4:30 there is another guy that will come up and collect people who all want to go to a certain station in the east bay that will take them there for free. we're not sure if anyone knows about this option. confusion is a part of the problem. a approached muni drivers and said i'm from channel 7.

and they said oh, so are we so confusion is another part of the problem, at the carpool pick up, congestion means people in long lines can't get where they need to be. people jump out of line making people at the front a little angry. one woman took charge to make sure nobody gets in the car before people at the front. >> so much traffic. and people are jumping in cars so people at the front are taking longer, if you're standing in the back and a car comes up, they're going to jump in the car. >> the city is gridlocked. bridge is running fine. it's gridlock. you can't get on the bridge. >> the wait is worse? >> yes. >> because of the buses. >> cars can't get through here. >> so again casual carpoolers

having to wait longer some people jumping out of line to get into a car that they can't get to the front of the line. but did hear about a shoving patch but it was ended without blows being thrown. everybody calmed down and things worked out. we're going to keep an eye on this, it's very quiet. wide open here on beal until all of a sudden, at 3:00, boom. it was like the cars just appeared, all of a sudden. so that is the situation from the trance bay terminal. abc 7 news. >> no surprise, thank you. >> let's take a look at all of the roads around the bay area. >> yes. morning reporter is here now with the latest on traffic conditions. >> thank you. that is right we're seeing mer cars on the road at this hour

that we did yesterday. right now just to get from central freeway to the maze that is a 30 minute commute. it does take up pace then hitting the maze it's packed. jam packed. taking you up to the richmond bridge, that is moving along a little bit better however about a 22-minute commute. into east bay. taking it south, that drive is about 22 minutes you're moving along at 50, 55 miles per hour. dunbarton moving along the best. 14 minutes to get to from east palo alto. a's and cubs tonight we're seeing tons of traffic by the stadium. take a look at traffic in the bay area, eastbound, westbound 80, 30 minutes. 25 minutes, 71 minutes more than an hour already eastbound

heading out of castro valley to tracy. a live look to the bay bridge. traffic moving pretty well out there. >> want to take a look at the ferry terminal, again people have been lining up to board ferries back to the east bay. extra boats have been put on route. and right now, things are looking okay. this morning commuters tried to beat the rush showing up early for boats at the alameda ferry terminal. by 5:00 a line stretched down along the water front. some are beyond frustrated by the delays. >> shame on the unions for doing this. not too happy about this. this is a bad public move for bart. that is for sure. i wish i had another way to get to work.

boy never take bart again. >> san francisco ferry has seen ridership triple since monday. >> we have one of our producers out and about checking on traffic. >> ken miguel is along the embarcadero using cell 7 technology. how does this compare to yesterday? >> i am along the embarcadero. and can tell you things are better than they were yesterday this, is a main artery in and out of the city. people are trying to get to the bay bridge and to 280. traffic is often heavy but not usually this heavy, this early. so while that sounds bad, it is improvement from yesterday. yesterday, it took me just about two hours and 20 minutes to make it along the embarcadero to the bay bridge.

latest now in day three. traffic on the left here making its way east trying to crawl on to the bay bridge now. this is a holiday get away day. >> good point but no fun for people stuck in traffic. here we are on the embarcadero. you can see bumper to bumper is take lg an hour to go four or five blocks. >> and both sides have been negotiating after spending nine hours with two top state mediator autos negotiators are hopeful this round could end the strike. so we'll see what goes.

>> it was worse than today or yesterday. starting with the bay bridge. folks trying to head out of san francisco into the east way. you're met with 10 miles per hour and down to 49 miles per hour just east of treasure island. it's going to take you about 30 minutes if you're thinking about taking richmond san rafael bridge instead that is a 65 minute commute. so that is shorter. later on this evening, we're expecting tons of traffic there along 880. take a look at folks heading out of san francisco to catch the bridge. 41 minutes another 30 to get
