>> we will check with the traffic with leyla gulen. >> happy fourth of july. we have a car fire in santa rosa if you are traveling along eastbound 12. that is where we do have it. the freeways in the area are cheer. there is a little volume build ing southbound on 101 on 12. this is a crash northbound 280 with lanes blocked but not slowing anything down. we have construction eastbound 580 at western drive and cones will be picked up between 5:00 and 6:00 this morning. all in all a pretty quiet start. >> we have footage we shot overnight and those are lightning strikes. we saw lightning over the pacific ocean. the lightning will move to the neither corner of sonoma county

this morning and it should move on and clear out later on today. we will talk about what our weather is looking like today. we are going to be seeing very warm temperatures especially inland. live doppler 7 hd shows we had lightning strikes in the northwest portion of california. be careful. the dry conditions could spark fires. from the kgo roof camera, we have clear conditions. the day planner shows starting off on the cool side and ranching up to 104 degrees this afternoon and 90 around the bay and 70 along the coast. hot today but it will cool off tomorrow. >> bart says it will run limited charter bus service teen the east bay and san francisco today. the transit agency will provide direct service to san francisco from five bart stations else vietnam, walnut creek,

today so stay well hydrated with areas of thunderstorms to the north, north of santa rosa in sonoma and we will see possible lightning strikes throughout the morning hours and it will move off as we look at our live doppler 7 hd radar satellite returns and we are showing the cluster of lightning is centered north of santa rosa is we are keeping our eye on that but right now it is calm in san francisco. from the sutro tower camera toward the bay bridge, glowing lights and it is beautiful this morning. we are going to be expensing hot temperatures inland. the air quality shows tree and ragweed moderate and ozone is order rat but a high u.v. index so, also, packed the sunscreen when you go out. the hot temperatures are going to be moving out and we will see things cooling off tomorrow because of this low pressure

over throwing islamic president morsi. interim president is praising the mass transit that demanded the ouster of morsi who now is under house arrest in an undisclosed location after a year in office. the new leader will serve physical a new president is elected with a date yet to be set. the obama administration is treading carefully, not taking a side and expressing deep concern. we will have a report from washington in the next half hour. >> the freak accident in the sierra has devastated the family and friends of a bay area woman. 21-year-old annais rittenberg was killed when a tree fell at a camp where she worked as a counselor yesterday morning at camp tawonga outside yosemite national park. abc7 news reporter has the story. >> this child was a life force and it is the most terrible tragedy. it is like, why didn't the damn tree fall on saturday when no one was going to be at the catch?

>> penny is trying to make sense of her daughter's death. annais rittenberg was here at camp tawonga when a tree fell on her around 8:30 a.m. and killed her. >> you can see a larger building that is behind the building where it occurred. >> four other staff were injuried when the tree fell outside the dining hall. no catcher was hurt all inside eating breakfast. it is believed the tree may have fallen because it was weak from disease. annais rittenberg was in her second year with the camp. last year she was a counselor and this year an art teacher. >> it is really very hard. we were so close. we were like, especially now with all the stuff with nature, she was my teacher now. she was teaching me. >> annais rittenberg was a santa cruz student who volunteered at the campus radio station and heavy add world music show and the advisor believed she had a bright future. >> i could see her as an

educator or music specialist. there were a lot of possibilities for someone like annais rittenberg. >> she was truly unique and will be missed. >> officials with city college of san francisco vowed to appeal a decision to ache away the school's accreditation. angry students protested at college yesterday when they learned of the decision. the commission of schools and colleges says that the college has failed to address problems it identified last year. the appeals process could take months. school leaders say during that time they will work to make necessary changes. >> it is a wonderful set of people here and i feel like they are here to help me. >> they have downsized the college. they diminished the mission statement. they cut the money of our programs of our services. >> pending appeal, the college accreditation will end in july. the administration says that

coast in santa cruz and 79. on the peninsula, 71 degrees and comfortable at half moon bay and cooler in pacifica and 87 in san mateo and 91 in palo alto. as we head to san francisco, the high is 78 and 70 in the sunset district and 78 in south san francisco. as we move into the north bay, 93 is the high in novato and 93 in santa rosa and as we move to calistoga and napa and sonoma you will be in the mid-to-upper 90's out there. in the east bay, it looks like everything is relatively in the mid-80's near oakland and as you push to the inland areas you will see the triple dim its. very hot temperatures. 102 in san ramon and 105 in brentwood. our lows tonight will be chilly but we have a game today, the cubs versus the a's starting at

1:05. it will be warm. the lows are going to be 56 for a low at what half and 57 in santa cruz and 63 in fremont. in the lower 70's inland. traffic right now looks like it is quiet so far. we did have a couple of crashes one of which has cleared but as we look right now most of the green conditions are a change from yesterday. this crash is cleared. northbound 280 in the center divider caused spectator slowing approaching it because it catch a lot of attention the drive time traffic showing everything on holiday schedule but we have a few added buses on a.c. transit and muni, as well, adding in buses to help with the volume. but it looks to be a quiet day. thank godness it is a holiday. >> thank you, leyla gulen.

a new bill supporting transgender students is headed to governor brown. the measure will let transgender students choose which restrooms they use and which school teams they joined based on gender identity. some school districts have already implemented similar policies. california is the first to make it a state-wide requirement. opponents say the state is going too far. >> the city of berkeley is trying to stop the federal government from closing the city's oldest and largest medical marijuana dispensary. the "san francisco chronicle" reports that the city filed a claim in district court yesterday in defense of the berkeley patient group arguing that closing the pot club would deprive berkeley of hundreds of thousands of tax dollars. the justice department sees it differently accusing the club landlord of breaking federal drug laws and wants to seize the property. >> so far, no charges have been filed against a san francisco firefighter accused of being drunk on duty. police arrested the 43-year-old

michael quinn on suspicion of driving under the influence after his fire truck collided with a motorcycle at 5th and howard on saturday. he was responding to an incident and the motorcyclive was seriously injured. the district attorney says that it is not moving forward until an investigation is completed. >> federal judges have denied a request by governor brown to delay the early release of nearly 10,000 prison inmates. in the decision, the justices say the brown administration had a long history of defying court order to reduce overcrowding at state prisons. the governor argues that releasing inmates early would threaten public safety. his administration says it will appeal the decision to the supreme court. >> the bay area's newest roller coaster rewere ons time for the fourth of july. we have the additions neighbors will be glad to see and hear or not hear. >> a little too much thrill, the swinging tower that threatens to spoil the fourth of july fund

a full list at abc7news.com. >> we need clear skies to people to fully enjoy that. >> absolutely. that is what we have. from our mount tamalpais camera, clear skies, looking over to san francisco, you can see the twinkling lights in the distance and it will be nice and cheer this morning but the fog and clouds will rolling back in later on today. we are also looking at cooler conditions in some areas and warmer conditions if others. in san francisco we have a five-degree difference and it will be 78 degrees opposed to 73 yesterday as the high. cooler in concord and walnut creek and oakland, and one degree warmer in san jose. as we look right now at the highs across the state we are going to see very warm conditions through much of northern california. we will enin the triple digits so 110 in chico.

the northwest corner sonoma has thunderstorms clipping the area. we see pockets of drizzle and rain pushing to the east. the full seven-day forecast is coming up shortly. over to traffic. >> we will look in san jose where we had an early crash which is cleared, northbound 280, and we see slow-and-go traffic still there and behind it we have a stalled car southbound 87 which could be block one lay. but it is not causing any delays right now and we are in pretty good shape. the rest of san jose and the bay area is looking clear without any crashes and not too much construction for the holiday and mass transit will be running on a holiday schedule. more on that in a little bit. >> thank you, leyla gulen. chrysler is recalling almost 500,000 cars and s.u.v.'s because of a safety concern that
