>> live from the kgo-tv broadcast center this is abc7 news. >> the bart strike is over. in a few hours trains will run again. that is relief for those struggling to get around all week. good morning, i am eric thomas. >> we are here for kristen and cheryl this morning. the strike is only over for now. the unions and bart have not agreed on a new contract. >> we have abc7 news reporter cornell bernard at walnut creek with the last morning commute without bart. we start with abc7 news reporter in oakland with the temporary deal. laura? >> the deal, really, is to go

back to work. last night negotiators and state mediators and the state secretary of labor walked out after a marathon session. they announced the workers would go back to work while the talks continue for the next 30 days. i was clear that something was up at the caltran building at 11:00 last night after 12 hours of negotiations. as all the negotiators came out together, this came after contentious day yesterday where the union leaders told their members they were not even close to an agreement. though were concerned bart leadership was going to impose the contract on them. that did not happen. as announced last night by the secretary of labor --. >> the battle is not done, everyone will be working just as hard as they have the last few days between now and august 4 to see to it we have a good

contract that pays the worker fairly, keeps the train running on time and improves the bart session. >> i tell the riders we deeply regret the inconvenience they have been caused. we want to express our commitment to do everything we know how to achieve a fair agreement. >> we have bart spokesman. trains were supposed to be running at 3:00 this afternoon. how is that going to look to commuters? >> the good news is bart is finally moving. behind the scenes a lot is going on with our staff levels up, our shops are staffed, the yard, the station, the control room to get the trains out by 3:00, we have to have tickets, make sure there is money and change for passengers and making sure the trains are clean. the strike happened during record breaking numbers and we have to make sure the trains are clean. >> will customers see resuming of normal schedule in if a bart

train comes through at 3:20 will it be there? >> it will be a normal friday schedule at 3:00 p.m. but we still having staff trickle in. the goal is normal service as of 3:00 p.m. on friday and it is a giants game so we are excited to get people to the game tonight. >> thank you. that is the spokesman from bart with normal service resuming at 3:00 this afternoon. in the meantime, negotiations are set to resume on monday with 30 days, now to try to reach an agreement. in oakland, for abc7 news. >> commuters who spent the week scrambling will get a relaxing train ride home. abc7 news reporter is there with more on that. >> bart workers are back on the job. stations like walnut creek, ramping up, coming back on line. the gates will be open and trains rolling again.

sky 7h captured bart trains at the richmond rail yard getting ready to roll back into service for the afternoon commute. the walnut creek bart station is slowly coming back to life. the trash is being picked up and workers are removing signs which inform the public about the strike. before dawn, riders lined up to catch shuttle buses to san francisco. many are glad that bart trains will be rolling again, but fear a 30 day contract extension could mean another strike in august. >> in 30 days if the time passes by we will be back to square one again. they really need to get this together. >> i feel like they could have done it in the first place. why strike and then agree to come back until you figure something out? i am thankful for the buses. >> bart provided seven shuttles from several east bay stations. first-come-first-serve buses. today it wasn't enough. in many riders, they were left

hype. >> the last bus took off? >> you are kidding! >> no. >> we have to go do work. >> extremely inconvenient. some of us do have to work today. >> there were so many complaints from frustrated riders that bart had to find another bus. finally, they sent folks on their way. >> back at station, the station agent showed up in the booth. some people are arriving here at the station super early, anxiously awaiting bart to stop rolling. that will not happen until 3:00. we are in walnut creek for abc7 news. >> cornell, thank you. oakland city workers will return to the bargaining table after holding a one day strike early this week. more than 5,000 workers took part in the day-long job action on monday, and union representatives say city workers face a possible 30 percent pay cut and necessity ticketed over what they call unfair labor

practices relatessed to bad faith bargaining with city services back to normal on tuesday morning. >> in richmond, two people were killed in a house fire that may have been sparked by fireworks. abc7 news reporter amy hollyfield is in richmond with that story. amy? >> yes, katie, firefighters got a clue when they got here on scene. look here, fireworks debris. then they found video on a family members' homes of a 26-year-old man jumping over lit fireworks. family members say that man has the mental capacity of an 8-year-old. he caught fire. they believe that happened in the doorway back of the back house. it looks like a fourth of july celebration went terribly wrong at this house the parents, ages 52 and 49, were killed in a fire. their 26-year-old son is in the hospital with buns all over his

body. witnesses saw him on fire running around in a panic. >> as far as the gentleman running, that wasn't good because that is why we tell you to stop, drop, roll. when you run, you feed the fire. >> i heard him screaming. i heard screaming. it woke me up. >> 9-1-1 was called at 2:30. he is devastated at the loss of his neighbors. >> she was really sweet. when she saw me she calls me "love." >> the adult children were setting off fireworks in the middle of the street and possible the backyard. witnesses saw them dancing above the fireworks before they launched. >> someone -- some were jumping over the fireworks. >> the couple went to sleep in the garage converted into a bedroom because the front house was full of partygoers and firefighters say it appear they could not get out of the bedroom so they shut the door to escape

the flames. >> they went back in and tried to cover themselves because they were found behind the door. >> they thing they died of smoke inhalation. investigators are still on the scene trying to figure out if fireworks are to blame and they have ruled out almost everything else. at this point, that is the theory, fireworks were to blame for the deaths and for this fire. thank you, amy. >> illegal fire work may have sparked a large grass fire in the oakland hills according to investigators. this is new video of firefighters working to put out the flames. the fire break out in the park last night and crews found a herd of goats. they were not not hurt. firefighters put out the fire at 4:00 a.m. burning 2 1/2 acres. a smaller fire in the area destroyed a cabin at a girl scouts camp. crews are checking for hotspots.

>> an east bay man use add garden hose to put out a grass fire burning close to homes in pittsburg with flakes breaking out last night with several homes threatened. it took an hour to put out the fire. there is no word yet on the cause but neighbors tell us that fireworks were going off in the area all night. >> the bay area heat wave is finally over with temperature differences 15 to 20 degrees lower. >> relief. meteorologist, mike nicco, with the details. >> the temperatures are dropping because of the wind. they are gusting dramatically around sfo. we have, in fact, a wind warning or an airport warning because of the winds through this evening and we still have delays there. wins are gusting to near 30 miles per hour in concord and 32 in fairfield. you can see the rush that is taking place right new.

compared to 24 hours ago, we are 22 degrees cooler had concord and 21 in livermore and 17 in fairfield and around the bay it is very impressive from ten in mount town view to 14 in sfo and 13 at for -- 13 in san jose. temperatures in the 60's and 70's not the 80's and 90's like the last seven days. summer is back in san francisco. for the rest of us, we will talk how much cooler it will be. eric? >> thank you. in southern california, investigators are looking into the cause of a malfunction at a fire work show that injured dozens of people. >> whoa. whoa. whoa. my god! whoa! >> a number of fire work shells exploded near or on the ground two minutes into the show.

it sent shrapnel flying at the community park. 20 people went to the hospital with minor to moderate injuries. another eight suffered minor cuts and bruises. the bomb squad deactivated the remaining fireworks. >> a 32-year-old man is recovering after being shot in the face this morning after a possible road rage incident. it happened in east palo alto on beach street before 1:00 o'clock a.m. police are trying to figure out what happened. the victim and the suspect have given officers conflicting reports. investigators believe a car crash turned into road rage and shots were fired. east palo alto police are asking witnesses to come forward. >> next on abc7 news, the america's cup fleet on display but a major event scheduled for today has been canceled. >> left behind is the big mess following last night's fourth of july celebration and the big effort to clean it

>> the time trials for the america's cup are canceled because of strong winds but the parade of the boats is still a go. here is a look from our exploritorium camera showing the ships in the parade. the village at pier 27 welcomed guests at noon yesterday during opening day celebrations with restaurants and lounges and plenty of activities for family people call the venue accessible and inclusive.
