>> good morning and thanks for joining us. i'm matt keller in for katie marzullo. let's start with a quick first look at the weather. here's meteorologist lisa argen. how is it look out there, lisa? >> hi, matt. it's looking pretty good. we are starting out with some low clouds and fog around the bay. temperatures mainly in the 50s and the winds are kind of breezy, as well. that will be a factor throughout the afternoon. we are looking at temperatures cooler than we were yesterday at this time. anywhere from 2 to 5 degrees cooler. you take to oakland, we are looking at mostly sunny skies today. take a look at the numbers. mid-and upper 50s at the shoreline, upper 50s to 70 around oakland. in the inland east bay low 80s

on the high end. it keeps it for a mild afternoon today. i'll let you know how long it will stick around. these numbers a little below average. matt. >> thanks, lisa. developing news in san francisco. five homes have sustained water damage following a water main break. happened around 10:00 last night in the area of brussell and ordway streets. crews have been cleaning up all morning law. some homes had water as high as three feet. >> it was about that high. i opened the back door so water could escape. >> still no word yet on what caused the water main break. >> bart trains are finally running again after a four day strike but will they keep running after the 30-day contract extension? we have the story from the west oakland bart station. >> they rolled in shortly after

three. the first bart trains since the strike began on monday. >> i'm happy! i couldn't have done it for more than five days. >> but the trains were sparsely populated during the evening rush. there seemed to be a lot of uncertainty. >> i have to admit i was a bit nervous because, you know, the bart trains haven't been running for a few days. >> can't describe the feeling. i think relief but a little anxiety it's not resolved and could be back here in a month. >> a 30-day extension with the bart contract came at the urging of state mediators on thursday. but there is a lot of work to be done. >> we are far apart in areas very important to us, safety, health and workmen's comp. >> at last word the unions wanted a 4.5% raise per year but bart was still offering 2% annually for four years. both sides are optimistic. >> the passengers are no longer

>> extremely lucky to have the video. it's rare to see crimes actually occur in the video, as well as a clear suspect dedescription and image captured. >> it occurred right after the pink saturday event. people are not calling it a hate crime. they are also looking for more possible victims of the robbers. an autopsy is scheduled to determine how a campbell couple died in the utah wilderness. the body of the 70-year-old man and 69-year-old wife were found near the popular wave trail. it's multi-colored sandstone on the southern border with arizona. they were hiking in 106-degree temperatures wednesday. sheriffs officials believe they died from excessive heat. three people remain hospitalized following the fourth of july fireworks explosion that kurt 39 people in california. >> oh, my god, oh, oh!

>> it happened during thursday night's fireworks celebration at simi valley north of los angeles. investigators say one device debt natured early, sent off a chain reaction which shot directly fireworks directly into the grounds of spectators 350 feet away. family in the front row thought they had the best seats for the show but were caught in the line of fire. >> you heard the first one and then it was we were right there in the front. it shot at our faces. >> you feel the heat coming at you. a lot of hot ash, hot air. like the fine debris is hitting you. >> the display was created and executed by a new york company that works with the new york mets, the republican national convention and nasa. >> whole foods issued a recall yesterday on cheese after one person died. the cheese could be contaminated

with listeria. customers in minnesota and illinois were hospitalized after eating the cheese and one died. it is cray brothers cheeses only sold on the east coast and through the company's website. thousands of students at the city college in san francisco have reason to be worried this morning. the value of the education they have invested time and money in is in real jeopardy. we have the story. a small group of students and instructor meant near the north bay campus of the city college of san francisco. they are fighting to pull the accreditation of the school. >> it's not going to happen because we aren't going to let it happen. >> she said plenty of improvements have been made since they called for changes. the best thing students can do now to help is continue signing up for classes. >> city college is open and accredited. it's still offering extremely high quality, affordable

education. >> but any creditsnd after next summer could be tough to transfer to other schools if the accreditation stands. >> it's a wounder full culinary and printing program. well, if you go to city college and people want to get restaurant training have to go to some private institution that costs a lot more money. >> it's within regarded as one of the best education bargains in the region. students can earn a two-year culinary certificate for $2,200. certificate at a private academy can cost as much as $19,000 each year. >> i think they need to stand up and let public officials know, let the governor know this is unacceptable. we aren't standing for the closer of city college. >> the hope is to have them ease their sanctions against city college. they are planning a march next tuesday from downtown to the campus. abc7 news. officers and cadets of the chp are getting a nearly 6%

raise. a california statute requires the state to look at compensation packages given to other law enforcement officers each fiscal year and adjust salaries accordingly. the first 4% will be a direct salary increase and the rest is to prefund the health benefits. the change was posted on the website of the california department late yesterday. we are seeing cooler temperatures out there. we are used to the heat wave. >> it's well behind us. temperatures today helped us reach the lower 80s in our warmest inland valleys. here's the golden gate bridge where we have fog around the bay. that will be a factor impacting our temperatures this this week. i'll be back to tell you how cool it is going to get. that's coming up. >> also the anger from the father of the woman killed by a fallen tree. why he's so frustrated by what happened after the accident. >> acting like a bunch ever school babies. >> and why one team has pulled out of this wee

>> good morning. here's a live look from the emeryville camera. at least 36 people are now dead in egypt following clashes between supporters of former president mow -- mouhamed morsi and his supporters. troops opened fires on protesters who threatened their headquarters. the interim president talks with the army chief and interior minister. he replaces morsi, who was egypt's first-ever democratically elected president. he was thrown out earlier this week. a firefighter killed in the 9/11 attacks at the world trade center has been identified 30

years after his death. remains were collected in 2002. they were retested and identified only recently. he followed his dad's example and became a firefighter in 1992. he was killed in the north tire leaving behind a wife and baby son. the parents of a young woman killed in a freak accident at a sierra camp earlier this week is sup upset how they handled the death. they heard nothing from the camp operators for two days. nick smith has their story. >> i sent a very, very strong e-mail to the camp director this morning. >> the parents of 21-year-old person are frustrated by the way things are handled by the camp after the death of their daughter. known from the camp had contacted them for two days. >> what is wrong with you people? do you have no grace? do you have no conscious? do you have no empathy? do you not feel anything? why would you not contact her father? >> he -- she is described by

friends and loved ones as full of life and vibrant. she was killed while a large oak fell on her. it wasn't until after her father sent a strong e-mail to the cam that he got a response. >> it was told to me it was deemed a crime scene and they couldn't respond more. >> it's not been necessary for a goofing father to be up at 5:30 in the morning and write such an e-mail. >> he said after words exchanged the camp reacted by allowing another camp director and friend to escort her body back. >> he said i don't want to have to go on her journey by herself. >> now as a father prepares to bury his only daughter, he's reminded of the memories he said he will always keep. >> she left me an e-mail.

both messages are so beautiful. daddy, i love you so much, do you know how much i love you? i don't want another parent to ever live the day that we had to live on july 3rd. >> she will be memorialized next tuesday at the berkeley house. it is expected to draw hundreds. abc7 news. happening today, two red cross volunteers from san jose will drive to arizona to help victims of the deadly wildfire that killed 19 firefighters. volunteers will drive an emergency response vehicle to the town of prescott to help provide emergency relief for those dismissed from the yarnell hill fire. the fire broke out last month and killed 19 firefighters last week when they became trapped by the flames. the fire is now about 80% contained. edward snowden now has two possible places for sanctuary. presidents of both nicaragua and

venezuela has offered asylum to snowden. he is currently at an airport in moscow. he's been on the run since he leaked classified information about a secret u.s. program last month. he's sought asylum in 20 countries. new details, a solar-powered plane trying to fly across the u.s. has left for its final leg of the journey. it left outside washington d.c. just before 5:00 this morning. it's expected to touchdown at jfk airport tomorrow. it's the first plane capable of flying day and night without fuel to fly across the u.s. it took off on may 3rd. a team has pulled out of the america's cup race tomorrow. it made the decision yesterday. at issue is the recommended design changes imposed for safety reasons. they are appealing before a jury

expected to meet on monday. reaction was swift and blunt. >> it's babyish. asking like a bunch of school babies. >> you are all men, spent over $1 billion, you should be in the water racing. >> the italians also pulled out of the team store where the cup merchandise is sold because they couldn't sell their sponsor's product, prada handbags. it's not part of tear team gear. changing directions, it's a little gusty out there today on the bay? >> yes, as much as 20 miles an hour. it's cooler than what we experienced last week. we are going to continue with that game plan with temperatures today just a little bit below average. san francisco should be about 67, oakland should be about 71. we are a little bit far off from those readings. here's a look at live doppler 7hd. you will notice that nothing going on there. another look at emeryville where we have a few clouds around. it's 54 in san francisco with 60 in oakland.

good morning, san jose. 56 for you and 54 half moon bay. it is cloudy here downtown and the winds will be picking up later on today. so it will feel a little brisk out there with numbers below average. it's going to be a cool day in san francisco with numbers right now in the 50s. in fact, temperatures with the wind is going to make it feel kind of like a spring afternoon. here's a look at the embarcadero where low clouds and fog visiting us this morning. they will pull back to the coast but we will have more around the bay today. with the cooler pattern and a few partly cloudy conditions, it will be a little chilly. in fact, we are going to bring up the numbers just slightly. tomorrow, monday and tuesday we should see a couple 90s in the inland east bay. here's a look at the pacific satellite. the big dome of high pressure has since passed to the east. with the cool onshore winds out of the southwest up to 25 miles an hour, temperatures will be anywhere from three to five degrees below average.

but we are going to nudge that low out of here and if the high expands from the east, numbers will slowly come on up. as for today looking at 76 in san jose. we should see about 84 today in morgan hill. 80, look for 73 in sunnyvale and on the peninsula numbers ranking from cool upper 50s at the coast to 71 in menlo park. san francisco look for 63 around the bay. up in the north bay with highs averaging in the mid-80s. we will be down from that today. sonoma look for 75, as well as palo alto. a few clouds around but it should be a nice afternoon. a little breezy, as well. 71 in hayward. look for numbers in the low 70s from san leandro to newark. you head inward getting into the mid-70s castro valley. out over the hills, look at this, another nice afternoon here with pleasanton coming in around 80. 83 livermore with brentwood and a southwest wind keeping the numbers in the low 80s. so the accuweather seven-day

>> we are starting this half-hour with a quick look at the weather. here's meteorologist lisa argen. how is it looking out there? >> oh, it looks beautiful. here's a look from mt. tam. you notice the low fog and cloud deck are with us this morning, allowing for temperatures to drop off into the 50s. 56 in san jose right now. good morning, oakland. 60 for you. a cool-down continues with the low clouds and fog pulling back. we will have a few clouds around the bay today. in fact, temperatures will be a little below average. notice the upper 50s at our coast.

not only the 60s, but we should see about 70 today around oakland. then our inland east bay will warm to the 80s. but just low 80s. sunny and mild afternoon there. afternoon highs will be cooler than average. we will talk about a warmup, just a modest warmup coming up really for the end of the weekend into early next week. that's in our seven-day outlook a few minutes away. matt. >> thanks, lisa. san francisco police are searching for clues to figure out who scattered poisoned meet balls in several san francisco streets. the meet balls were found in the twin peaks and diamond heights neighborhood. at least one dog ate one and got seriously sick. the 7-year-old dachshund is receiving intensive care at an animal hospital but is expected to live. >> there were approximately 50 collected by the woman, the dog oner and the neighbors. >> the dog's vet said the meet balls appear to be filled with

pellets that are stritnyne. the early results of the golden gate bridge span are positive. hundreds of bolts have been tested for brittleness and none have failed. that means they could observe the bridge by labor day as scheduled. the findings will be announced during a public hearing on wednesday. if the bolts need to be replaced, the opening could be delayed. a group of activists plan to protest plans to cut down trees at ucsf today by posing nude. a photographer plans to have someone pose naked with the freeze this morning. that's after they removed thousands of trees behind the fire center. that will kickoff this morning. police have security concerns ahead of today's soccer

doubleheader in the south bay. mexican soccer teams face-off at 5:00 p.m. at spartan stadium in san jose, but promoters of the match are concerns after a brawl broke out between rival teams in las vegas. they met yesterday to review security meeting after a match was stopped wednesday after a brawl on the field. another one delayed the start of the las vegas match and several were ejected for fighting during the game. a bill on governor brown's desk would allow transgender student to pick school academy tests that fit them best. that means students born one sex but their gender identity is another can choose the locker room, sports teams and they are most comfortable with. >> it's uncomfortable and can hinder their ability to succeed. to not have your gender recognize sudden a tremendous

here's michael finney to talk about mixes love and money. >> there's no doubt seven-year-old cole wants on his dad's wedding play list. the big day is less than a week away. the last minute wedding details are the easy part. the more difficult issues for them have already been worked out. >> i think that, you know, we've never really had trouble talking about things that are difficult, which is a really great part of our relationship. >> issues like who is going to take care of the finances? >> she takes care of a lot of the day-to-day bills. however, we kind of talk regularly about where we are, where we are going and where we need to be. >> whether they will have a joint account or separate accounts. >> amy came in with a sizable savings account so we talked through that. >>. [laughter] >> you know, i think that i look at it as our money. >> the two plan to maintain their own separate accounts so they can buy each other gifts but will also maintain a joint

bank account for most other expenses. this is tom's second marriage. he has two children, cole and reilly. >> the way that i look at it is the children, you know, they have their mother, but i'm going to be as much of a support financially and emotionally as i possibly can be. >> that includes building up a savings account to send them to college. ross is with a cpa firm and former president of the california society of cpas. >> she's got a plan. she's bringing her assets into the relationship. and hopefully her plan, and with his assistance, is going to allow her to actually put together something that's going to take off. >> ross calls this a good situation with tom having a steady job and good income, and amy having built up enough reserves to start her own practice. she recommends the couple look into tax planning. >> so if you are both higher wage earners and you get married, you have to anticipate, you are going to have a slightly higher tax ratepo extensionally.

especially here in the city of san francisco. that leads to cooler, mild temperatures today. the super-heated housing market may be showing signs of a cool down. multiple bids aren't coming in as fast as a few weeks ago, nor or overbids. business and technology reporter david louie tells us about a sunnyvale house that could be a reflection of a changing market. >> this three-bedroom, two bathroom house in sunnyvale went on the market five days ago. as recently as a few weeks ago multiple offers would have come in even before the first open house. but the real estate agent said it's taking a bits longer. >> in this market it's taking a little bit longer for buyers to make a decision. probably ten days to two weeks before we start to see offers. >> they tell us buyers are moving slow are because of a number of recent developments. interest rates are inching up past 4% after the federal reserve signaled it may ease

it's rates this fall. it's also easier to buy rental properties. >> overbidding, people buying with all cash and offers with no contingencies, which is a dangerous situation for anybody. i think buyers are getting frustrated with that. >> in recent months buyers found themselves overbidding and found the house didn't appraise for the contract price so they had to come up with the difference in cash to get the get the loan. >> buyers overpaid because they had to. a lot of piers paid more than they might in a bidding market. >> but it may be cooling off. the asking price for this home is $829,000. >> i have not seen as many multiple offers in the last two weeks as i have before so i would say we probable probably have a little cooling-off period. >> in sunnyvale, abc7 news. >> speaking of cool, our forecast is looking that way today. >> pretty nice out there.

rolling blackouts. they asked consumers to cut energy usage between noon and seven. there was a noticed immediate drop off at noon each day. lisa joins us now with the accuweather forecast. beginning of the week it was so hot we were cranking the air conditioner and now we have a major air conditioner today, right? >> certainly. sweatshirts out there. live doppler 7hd right now not picking up anything in the way of clouds cover. high clouds. you see the low clouds along the coast. you know the marine layer up to 2,400 feet deep. so we are going to get into slow afternoon clearing. with a few clouds around the bay this afternoon, we will keep it partly cloudy at times in oakland and san francisco. so that's going to hold down the temperatures, as well as a pretty good southwesterly breeze, up to 25 americans. so certainly cooler around the
