>> good morning and thanks for joining us. i'm matt keller in for katie marzullo. let's start with a quick first look at the weather. here's meteorologist lisa argen. how is it look out there, lisa? >> good morning. we have some cooler afternoon highs. a little below average. right now by the delta with the suggest west wind, 56 degrees. live more at 56. 53 los gatos and low 50s with not much in the way of fog in santa rosa. we are cooler this morning anywhere from five degrees of cooling down around san jose.

four degrees by the delta and cooler by the san carlos airport and in hayward. this afternoon we will enjoy another mild afternoon with sunshine inland. numbers in the upper 70s to low 80s. it will be partly sunny to mostly cloudy at our coast with mid-and upper 50s. around the bay you will notice a few clouds, but otherwise a nice mild afternoon with upper 60s to near 70 in oakland today. the numbers come up just modestly tomorrow into the early part of next week. that will bring us back to a few 90ths inland. i'll have the details in a few minutes. matt. thanks, lisa. developing news in san francisco. five homes have sustained water damage following a water main break. happened around 10:00 last night in the area of brussell and ordway streets. crews have been cleaning up all morning law. some homes had water as high as three feet. >> opened the back door to relieve the pressure of the water. it was filling up.

>> it was about that high. i opened the back door so water could escape. >> still no word yet on what caused the water main break. >> bart trains are finally running again after a four day strike, but will they keep running after the 30-day contract extension? we have the story from the west oakland bart station. [horn honking] >> they rolled in shortly after three. the first bart trains since the strike began on monday. >> i'm happy! i couldn't have done it for more than five days. i'm great. >> but the trains were sparsely populated during the evening rush. there seemed to be a lot of uncertainty. >> i have to admit i was a bit nervous because, you know, the bart trains haven't been running for a few days. >> describe the feeling? i think relief but a little anxiety it's not resolved and could be back here in a month. >> a 30-day extension with the bart contract came at the urging

san francisco, san francisco police want to find a man involved in a robbery in a brutal attack of a women. we saw it captured on surveillance video. before we show this, we want to warn you the video is disturbing. the video shows the victim is already on the ground. one of the attackers walks back and connection her in the face with such force three drops unconscious. three robbers were arrested. police are still searching for the man who kicked the woman. >> extremely lucky to have the video. it's rare to see crimes actually occur in the video, as well as a clear suspect description and image captured. >> it occurred right after the pink saturday event. people are not calling it a hate crime. they are also looking for more possible victims of the robbers. an autopsy is scheduled to determine how a campbell couple died in the utah wilderness. the body of the 70-year-old man and 69-year-old wife were found thursday neither hop lar wave

trail. it's multi-colored sandstone on the southern border with arizona. they were hiking in 106-degree temperatures wednesday. sheriffs officials believe they died from excessive heat. three people remain hospitalized following the fourth of july fireworks explosion that injured 39 people in california. >> oh, my god, oh, oh! [explosions] >> it happened during thursday night's fireworks celebration at simi valley north of los angeles. investigators say one device detonated early, sent off a chain reaction which shot directly fireworks directly into the grounds of spectators 350 feet away. family in the front row thought they had the best seats for the show, but were caught in the line of fire. >> you heard the first boom and then it was we were right there in the front. it shot at our faces. >> you feel the heat coming at you. a lot of hot ash, hot air.

like the fine debris is hitting you. >> the display was created and executed by a new york company that works with the new york mets, the republican national convention and nasa. >> whole foods issued a recall yesterday on cheese after one person died. whole foods issued a recall for the cray brothers cheese. the cheese could be contaminated with listeria. customers in minnesota and illinois were hospitalized after eating the cheese and one died. the cray brothers cheeses only sold on the east coast and through the company's website. thousands of students at the city college in san francisco have reason to be worried this morning. the value of the education they have invested time and money in is in real jeopardy. abc7 news reporter sergio quintana has the story. a small group of students and instructor meant near the north bay campus of the city college of san francisco. they are fighting to pull the

accreditation of the school. >> it's not going to happen because we aren't going to let it happen. >> she said plenty of improvements have been made at the school since the acreditting committee called for changes. she said the best thing students can do now to help is continue signing up for classes. >> city college is open and accredited. it's still offering extremely high quality, affordable education. >> but any credits earned after next summer could be tough to transfer to other schools if the accreditation stands. >> it has a wonderful culinary program. well, if you go to city college and people want to get restaurant training have to go to some private institution that costs a lot more money. >> it's been regarded as one of the best education bargains in the region. students can earn a two-year culinary certificate for $2,200. a certificate at a private

academy can cost as much as $19,000 each year. >> i think they need to stand up and let public officials know, let the governor know this is unacceptable. we aren't standing for the closer of city college. >> the hope is to pressure them to ease their pressure against the school and ease their sanctions against city college. they are planning a march next tuesday from downtown to the campus. abc7 news. officers and cadets of the chp are getting a nearly 6% raise. a california statute requires the state to look at compensation packages given to other law enforcement officers each fiscal year and adjust salaries accordingly. the first 4% will be a direct salary increase and the rest is allocate today prefund the health benefits. the change was posted on the website of the california department late yesterday. >> this morning we are talking about cool temperatures out there. >> that's right. the marine layer is pretty generous, in fact 2400 feet as we look outside from mt. tam. a beautiful shot. clear condition necessary the

at least 36 people are now dead in egypt following clashes between supporters of former president mouhamed morsi and his supporters. troops opened fires on protesters who threatened their headquarters. the interim president talks with the army chief and interior minister. he replaces morsi, who was egypt's first-ever democratically elected president. he was thrown out earlier this week. a firefighter killed in the 9/11 attacks at the world trade center has been identified 30 -- 11 years after his death. the remains were collected in 2002. they were retested and identified only recently. he followed his dad's example and became a firefighter in 1992. he was killed in the north tower, leaving behind a wife and baby son.

the parents of a young woman killed in a freak accident at a sierra camp earlier this week is upset with how they handled the death. they heard nothing from the camp operators for two days. nick smith has their story. >> i sent a very, very strong e-mail to the camp director this morning. >> the parents of the 21-year-old are frustrated by the way things have been handled by the camp after the death of their daughter. no one from the camp had contacted them for two days. >> what is wrong with you people? do you have no grace? do you have no conscious? do you have no empathy? do you not feel anything? why would you not contact her father? >> she is described by friends and loved ones as full of life and vibrant. she was killed when a large oak fell on her. while children and other staff members were eating breakfast by the campfire. it wasn't until after her father sent a strong e-mail to the camp that he got a response.

>> as it was explained to me, it was deemed a crime scene and they couldn't get the word out faster. >> an answer both parents are finding hard to help. abc news reached out to the cam for a response but we have not heard back. >> it is not necessary for a grieving father to be up at 5:30 in the morning and to write such an e-mail. >> he said after words exchanged the camp reacted by allowing another camp director and friend to escort her body back. >> he volunteered and said i don't want her to go on this journey by herself. >> now as a father prepares to bury his only daughter, he's reminded of the memories he said he will always keep. >> she left me a voicemail. both messages are so beautiful. daddy, i love you so much, do you know how much i love you? i don't want another parent to ever live the day that we had to live on july 3rd. >> she will be memorialized next

tuesday at the u.c. berkeley alumni house. it is expected to draw hundreds. abc7 news. happening today, two red cross volunteers from san jose will drive to arizona to help victims of the deadly wildfire that killed 19 firefighters. volunteers will drive an emergency response vehicle to the town of prescott to help provide emergency relief for those displaced from the yarnell hill fire. the fire broke out last month and killed 19 firefighters last week when they became trapped by the flames. the fire has burned about 8400 acres and is now about 80% contained. utility crews have been working to restore power to residents who could be allowed to return to their homes today. edward snowden now has two possible places for sanctuary. presidents of both nicaragua and venezuela has offered asylum to snowden. the 29-year-old former intelligence contractor is currently at an airport in moscow. he's been on the run since he leaked classified information

about a secret u.s. surveillance last month. he's sought asylum in 20 countries. new details, a solar-powered plane trying to fly across the u.s. has left for its final leg of the journey. it left outside washington d.c. just before 5:00 this morning. it's expected to touchdown at jfk airport tomorrow. it's the first bid aa solo plane capable of flying day and night without fuel to fly across the u.s. it took off on may 3rd. that was from mountain view. a team has pulled out of the america's cup race tomorrow. claiming zone changes made to their boat is unfair. it made the decision yesterday. at issue is the recommended design changes imposed for safety reasons. they are appealing before a jury expected to meet on monday. reaction was swift and blunt. >> i think it's babyish. they are acting leak a bunch of

lake. otherwise 76 novato. 69 berkeley and 73 union city. you head inland, nice afternoon with 80 pleasanton, 84 livermore and brentwood. the accuweather seven-day forecast brings the warmer numbers our way tomorrow, anywhere from two to four degrees of warming, up to about 90 inland on monday. low 90s tuesday and low 80s around the bay. by wednesday the winds kicking up, cooling us off a little bit and thursday and friday the pattern holding steady with 50s on the coast, 70s around the bay and low to mid-8 0s inland. all right. thank you, lisa. well, sinusitis affects many in america. now there what be a solution. carolyn johnson has the details. >> sheri and her partner love the outdoors but the accident of the pines have been interrupted by severe sinus infections.

here's a dog rescue from florida. this pup got stuck between the steering mechanism and the axle. the car traveled before three cities before the driver pulled over after hearing him wimpering from under the wood. they gently freed the dog. >> it was like the indy 500 pit drew. they had the wheel off the pt cruiser. they were working gingerly to rescue the dog dropped up in there. amazingly the puppy was not seriously hurt. >> the dog was taken to the vet for a checkup. rescuers are still trying to figure out who the dog belongs to. >> children born on the same day at prince william and the duchess of cambridge middleton's first child will get a

oakland. mid-70s will be common in the south bay but you have to go pretty far out to get into the 80s in the inland east bay. itit will be north of santa rosa you have the 80s. the fog will stay situated along the coast. san francisco coming in in the low 60s. the rest of the numbers and when we will see a little bit of a warmup coming your way in a few minutes. matt. >> thanks, lisa. san francisco police are searching for clues to figure out who scattered poisoned meet balls in several san francisco streets. the meatballs were found in the twin peaks and diamond heights neighborhood. at least one dog ate one and got seriously sick. the 7-year-old dachshund is receiving intensive care at an animal hospital but is expected to survive. police say the meat balls appear to have been scattered deliberatively. >> there were approximately 50 collected by the woman, the dog owner and the neighbors. >> the dog's vet said the meatballs appear to be filled

with poisonous strychnine pellets. there is no motive. the early results of the golden gate bridge span are positive. hundreds of bolts have been tested for brittleness and none have failed. that means they could observe -- open the bridge by labor day as scheduled. the findings will be announced during a public hearing on wednesday. if the bolts need to be replaced, the opening could be delayed. a group of activists plan to protest plans to cut down trees at ucsf today by posing nude. a photographer plans to have the group pose naked with the trees this morning. it comes after plans to remove thousands of trees. that will kickoff this morning. police have security concerns ahead of today's soccer doubleheader in the south bay.

mexican soccer teams face-off at 5:00 p.m. at spartan stadium in san jose, but promoters of the matches are concerns after a brawl broke out between rival teams in las vegas. they met yesterday to review security plans after a match wednesday was stopped afghans stormed the field. another brawl delayed the start of the las vegas match and several players were eject ford fighting during the game. a bill on governor brown's desk would allow transgender students to pick school activities that fit them best. that means students born one sex but their gender identity is another can choose the locker room, sports teams and they are most comfortable with. >> it's extremely frustrating and difficult. it can really hinder a student's ability to succeed, to not have your gender identity recognized can be a tremendous challenge, on top of the challenges that already exist for all students.

>> critics say it may encourage by logically born male students to join women teams and get an unfair advantage. jim has performed about 10,000 marriages since 1993 but he's never been able to get married himself. yesterday after 26 years he and his partner were finally able to tie the knot, thanks to the historic supreme court decision making same-sex marriage legal here in california. >> i knew eventually this would come about. absolutely. because i stand here and do the weddings and harvey sat over my right shoulder. i knew this would eventually come to pass and we are very happy. >> the date has a special meaning for him and his partner. they met on the same day 26 years ago. summer is a popular time for weddings, but before you say "i do" there are a few questions you may want to ask first.

multiple bids aren't coming in as fast as a few weeks ago, nor or overbids. business and technology reporter david louie tells us about a sunnyvale house that could be a reflection of a changing market. >> this three-bedroom, two bathroom house in sunnyvale went on the market five days ago. as recently as a few weeks ago multiple offers would have come in even before the first open house. but the real estate agent said it's taking a bits longer. >> in this market it's taking a little bit longer for buyers to make a decision. probably ten days to two weeks before we start to see offers. >> they tell us buyers are moving slow are because of a number of recent developments. interest rates are inching up past 4% after the federal reserve signaled it may ease it's rates this fall. it's also easier to buy rental properties. >> overbidding, people buying with all cash and offers with no contingencies, which is a dangerous situation for anybody. i think buyers are getting frustrated with that. >> in recent months buyers found themselves overbidding and found the house didn't appraise for the contract price so they had to come up with the difference in cash to get get the loan. >> buyers overpaid because they had to. that was in order to beat out the competition. a lot of buyers would pay more than they might in a bidding market. >> but it may be cooling off. the asking price for this home is $879,000.

oakland opened up a three-run lead this the fifth inning. jar reddick with the rbi triple into the gap. reddick went 2 for 3 in the ninth. he gets the out, thanks to this error and a run scored. coco crisp had three rbi, two on this two-out single. that made it 6-0. the royals did rally for three in their half. but the last two outs to earn the save. stating back to last season, belfour has 40 consecutive saves, which ties dennis eckersley's record. the a's remain a half game ahead of texas in the a.l. west. the warriors gave it their best shot but in the end dwight howard chose houston, not golden state. but the warriors did acquire another quality free agent in andre iguodala. the 19-year-old swingman has agreed to a four-year, $48 million contract. a first-round pick by philadelphia. he played eight seasons there

a little below average with plenty of low clouds behind us. the live doppler hd picking up the stratus and the marine layer well over 2,000 feet deep. it's moved locally across the bay up to the north in santa rosa. we have clear sky to the south in san jose and mountain view and the inland east bay. here's a look from mt. tam. you see how temperatures are responding into the mid-50s. a cool start with 54 at half moon bay, 58 in santa cruz and numbers in san francisco mid-50s. our exploratorium camera showing the gray sky. 57 in napa with clear condition necessary livermore. 56 for you. and 58 union city. finally from the roof come raw, the transamerica pyramid underneath the blanket of low clouds and fog throughout most of the bay in this morning. we will look for the cooler pattern to stay with us throughout the day today and slightly warmer conditions headed our way tomorrow by about two to four degrees and another two degrees on monday.

the warmest day, depending on where you are, should be monday or tuesday. high temperatures touching just around 90 ortiz -- or a few degrees above that. santa cruz going for a high of 73. want to give you a little perspective. in the first column we have the average high temperatures for this time of year for some select cities. 70s and upper 80s. and the middle column shows where we will be this afternoon. that puts us about 13 degrees below average in napa and a couple below average in livermore. 8 degrees on the south bay. so we are looking at numbers today just shy of where they should be. as we come up a few degrees in the next several days, we will be right where we should be in mid-july a lot of that due to the ebb and flow of the low clouds, the fog, the marine layer and by this afternoon we will call it partly cloudy, mid-60s on the coast from monterey, upper 70s in los angeles, but still plenty of heat from fresno.

101. numbers coming down in the valley for sacramento 91, 96 in chico. so back home, we will talk about more 60s in the city, but with upper 50s half moon bay. we will keep the le fog and clouds from the san mateo coast and even up toward point reyes and stinson. we will call it partly cloudy around the bay today but with more sunshine in the south bay and our inland east bay. that's where we warm up into the mid-70s to the lower 80s in concord. fairfield 82. 70 oakland. and this afternoon the giants have to do it today. temperatures will be in the low 60s. it will be breezy. then the temperatures dropping into the upper 50s. that sun doesn't set until 8:35. here's the look ahead. modest warmup tomorrow and monday and tuesday some low 90s. what you would expect for summer in the east bay. low 80s around the bay. 60s coast and we are looking at the cool, breezy condition continuing along the shoreline. we will definitely have to get used to a change of wardrobe, right? >> yeah.
