completely, i went in to see whether the captain was alive. i knocked the door. the captain opened it. i asked are you okay, captain? he said yes. i'm okay. i asked should i perform evacuation, he told me to wait so i made an announcement because passengers were upset and things were confusing. i said, ladies and gentlemen, our plane has stopped. please remain seated. the plane will not move anymore. >> unclear why anyone would instruct passengers to wait but the 40-year-old has been hailed for saving lives and carrying a child child on her back. only later did she learn she suffered a broken tail bone. >> the family of two chinese girls arrived in the bay area, reports say the girls were the best of friends at their school.

flames underneath as well. so my immediate reaction was okay. got out of the plane but there is something else that could happen. and so we just ran. >> they came across injured passengers and a flight. >> found four people, stayed with them, comforted them. and yelling for anyone to come help. we weren't getting responses there. so we just tried to stay with them to do the best we can. >> they saw rescuers helping near the front and center of the jetliner. but worried no one knew of injuries by the tail. >> we stayed with victims until personnel got there. once they got there, and took control of that person we left them and went looking for more people. >> now it's back to recovering from psychological trauma.

rez dechbts a burned out apartment building returned home today to find little left. this as a hero emerges from sunday's tragic fire. abc 7 news is live in redwood city with the latest for us. vic? >> that of course is the apartment building behind me. now, fire investigators have determined that it was not arson, that it was accidentally set. today lots of residents came back to clean belongings or what is left of belongings and this was the first time they had been allowed back inside of the building. we received some cell phone video today from, shot by a fire victim who lives in that apartment. this shows you just how intense flames were. the six-alarm fire sunday morning destroyed almost the entire third floor of the 72-unit building. the blaze displaced 97 residents.
