>> abc7 news starts right now with breaking news. >> fire crews respond to for overnight after heavy smoke pours from the wreckage of asiana flight 214. here is a look at the scene right now with the fire out with a slow movement that is the fuselage, the main portion of the wreckage is being toed away by crews as work continued to re-open runway this week. thanks for joining us at 6:00. >> first up is the weather forecast. >> it is dry this morning, not so much drizzle but, still, a lot of low cloud cover. the day planner the next 12 hours is dry and mid-50's headed through 7:00 hour and in the mid-to-upper 60's under partly sunny conditions by the time we get to noon and almost total sunshine by 4:00 with

temperatures below average and low-to-mid 70's and grab a light jacket in the low 60's. inland, fewer clouds especially in the east bay valley with the northbound cloudy and low-to-mid 50's and mild headed out to lunch at 72 and sunny and sunny and below average and 82 in the afternoon to 74, with for real weather worries during the evening for the friday festivities. at the coast, the day planner shows a lot of cloud cover, limited sunshine to partly sunny this afternoon and we will hand out in the mid-to-upper 50's. enjoy. >> traffic is slowing through the sunol grade traveling along southbound 680 because of the trash at 84, and now we down to 40 miles per hour, but the heavy backups show bumper-to-bumper traffic and some are saying it is at standstill at sunol boulevard. on the peninsula we have a report of a big rig that is either a flat tire or blocking one lane at 92 and the rest of the drive, though, across the making making -- san mateo from

hayward to foster city is slow. from san jose, we can see 87 at the off-ramp with a few extra cars but, still, accident free. >> we have break news from for overnight firefighters responded to the wreckage of asiana flight 214 after a fire there. amy? >> look what is happening now, the fuselage is on the move, they are making problem after sitting there for a week. we have exclusive video shot overnight by abc7 news photographer with smoke bursting from the wreckage at 3:30 this only. crews rushed in, they sprayed it and knocked it down quickly and it was eerie to see the smoke here again. authorities say they knew it was going to be a tricky separation

but they did not know what to expect saying there could be hazardous material sitting under the wreckage or it could spill out as they lifted it. they were worried the pieces would break apart as they started to move them. we did see debris spilling from one piece as they lifted it up with a sling. it has been quite an operation. they are working around the clock, they worked through the night be they pushed on even after the surprise fire because they say they want to get this runway re-opened by sunday. they say each day they are having to cancel 10 percent of their flights because they are down a runway. >> well look now as an animation provided to abc7 news showing how far off the plane was to the three-degree glide slope. we will continue to try and get you that video.

in jail being held on $100,000 bail and could be arraigned this afternoon on child endangerment charges. the search continues for the 21-month-old girl. she was taken from the s.u.v. according to the dad when he went in a store on wednesday morning. police and the f.b.i. have been looking for the gill since then, yesterday passing out flyers with her picture on them near the store. a marine unit and an underwater robot have been searching the water near the oakland airport where the daughter and father were known to frequent. the oakland police department is bringing in the use of a helicopter. they will fly over the waterways as the tide recedes. the reason the oakland police arrested the girl's father is they say the fact that he left the young girl alone with his

cars are all too often coming up short. >> when you are shopping for a new car the window sticker says how many mile as gallon you can expect and they are an estimate based on tests developed by the environmental protection agency. >> when "consumer reports" ran its own tests on 315 vehicles, the results for many hybrids were surprising. >> hybrids are very fuel efficient but many we tested got far fewer miles than the window sticker claimed. >> for example, the ford hybrid here the epa says it gets 47 miles per hour overall. in "consumer reports" test it was 37 miles per gallon overall. still good, but 21 percent less than the epa estimate. >> we think the problem is the epa ratings are based on outdated tests that do not reflect real world driving conditions. >> take a highway driving, one test the epa

minutes headed out much the crash cleared southbound 680 at highway 84, also involving an overturned vehicle that was blocking a lane and that has cleared but we are left with 22 miles per hour and tons of backup in the southbound direction. as we go outside, at look at maze at a quick drive through berkeley to 580 and breaking news we have been covering, a fire broke out at the site of the wreckage of asiana flight 214 this morning as crews worked to remove what is left of the plane. we have the latest at the airport. >> right to our exclusive video, look at the smoke that came gushing out of the wreckage site at 3:30 this morning, and how much they suddenly had to deal with. it was quite a surprise. fire crews rushed in and got it out quickly. authorities were not sure what to expect with the process and

were worried there would be other hazardous material under the wreckage and does not know what they would encounter but were faced with fire in the middle of night. they have pushed through and they have made progress. look at this video hauling arm the fuselage this morning. they were lifting huge pieces using slings and cranes to get them up and out of here. we saw pieces breaking apart and debris spilling out and it has been quite an experience for them, a salvage process they have had to deal with. they worked through the night and around the clock because they know they need to get the runway open as soon as possible. they have to repair the landing equipment that was damaged on the runway from the crash and hoping to get this done by sunday because each day it is

closed they are having to close 10 percent of the flight. the runway is not cleared but close to being cleared with an update from the airport spokesman later this morning. reporting from burlingame for abc7 news. >> congresswoman nancy pelosi and jackie pier were returning from washington, dc and decided to sigh the wreckage firsthand. both wanted to thank first responders, the airport and the city and paid tribute to the mayor, san francisco fire chief and ntsb chairwoman and saying seeing the the wreckage was jarring. >> to think that 302 passengers got out with all that destruction and the staff and the flight attendants...it is, really, a miracle. >> for her part, pelosi wants do find out what lawmakers can do

in cooperation with federal and local authorities to make sure something like this doesn't happen again in the future. >> the father of one of the girls killed in the crash is distraught because he still hasn't seen his daughter's body. the parents came from china to bring their daughter's body home. her fore said i know everyone is doing this for my child but my daughter is my flesh and blood, how can i let her lie in the freezer by her lonesome. the newspaper say the reason the parents went to the runway is because they could not see the bodies yet and they wanted to see where their daughters were last alive. the ntsb agreed to the request. we will have continued coverage on "good morning america" at 7:00. we have the ongoing amber alert for a missing oakland toddler

whose father is in jail. police are scheduled to give us an update in 30 minutes where we fine abc7 news reporter katie marzullo. >> we foe right now the girl's father, john webb is in jail, being held on $100,000 bond for the circumstances that led to his daughter, daphne viola webb, disappearing. we have the booking photo. he said his daughter was taken from his s.u.v. after he left her inside the vehicle with his mother who suffers from dementia. he hopped in a store for a few moments which is at 79th and international boulevard, one of three areas police have been searching since the dill was reported on wednesday. yesterday they passed out flyers with the girl's picture son them. authorities are also searching
