we have in custody. out of caution, s.w.a.t. is clearing the building. >> then, we go. just went inside of the store to clean it up. put jewelry away. then, that is it. a lot of police cars coming in. and had to stay inside. >> ken lamb says he saw a woman on the floor in her shop just as he was being evacuated out of the building. police arrived three officers were responding to a call. they're on the north side of brannan street walking up towards the gift mart they saw a man covered in blood. police say they walked up to that person who pulled a resolver. police ducked for cover. the man ran inside of a mexican restaurant.

and then threw the gun down and surrendered. police found two women shot dead and a man wounded apparently with a gunshot wound they do not know the relationship between the person who survived and the two deceased. they took the man and suspect to san francisco general hospital. they just believe there was one shooter involved and believe that because they saw a video from a nearby store show that had one person walking into the mart before the call went out of shots fired. >> mark math use thank you for that. and abc 7 news reporter spoke to witnesses who were working near a shooting scene. >> this scene is winding down a bit. that door we're seeing

activity at triple 8 brannan. there are police officers coming out. probably about 20 minutes ago i talked with construction workers down on the level where this happened. the picture basically illustrates the scene down there on the level where this shooting happened. you can sigh in the distance there are police officers. that is the crime scene. there is some bullet casings on the floor. i can tell you immediately after the shooting construction workers ducked for cover then heard five more shots. then heard a bit of commotion after that. the suspect ran up. this is the basement level we're talking about here. the suspect ran out of the basement and out of the building. and was taken into custody.

"talked to merchants inside of the building. >> i was walking up stairs to a manufacturing suite. where we produce rings and jewelry. i heard day kayeos. i was shuffled into a room. and we weren't allowed out for an hour. then, s.w.a.t. team came n and chekd us and got a name kounlt then about 45 minutes later escorted us down to the lobby for safety. >> and you can see there is where merchants are at this moment. they had just been asked to figure out what they saw and heard. right now a lot of them are still in shock. they may know people who unfortunately were killed in this situation. this is a tight knit

community. it's a tragic situation. >> it's tragic. thank you so much. we know of one other person wounded in that incident. cornell can you clear this up? >> no information, no official information coming from sf general police are confirming to abc 7 news that two people from that shooting are being treated. we're standing by for an update on the asiana crash when two ambulances began arriving from that shooting scene. two people were transported. police said one is a person wounded inside of the jewelry

store, we're told they're in stable condition right now. we believe the second person is the suspect in the shooting found covered in blood. we do not know the extent of his injuries this afternoon. very to tell you there has been a large police presence here at arrival area. police coming and going. a lot of officers in plain clothes. there was a group of at least six or seven detectives have gone inside to the hospital at this point. but again, we can see two police officers who were here to the left. a very possibly dangerous suspect now being treated just feet from where we are. that is the latest from san francisco general.

it's now sitting near a hangar at the edge of the airport. sky 7 was overhead as crews cleaned up the debris from the runway. officials say the runway could reopen the runway. >> the police department officially confirming one of the victim on board asiana flight 214 was run over by a fire truck respond together crash. >> this is what gailtors call contaminating the crime scene. every incident leaves traces at the scene. the goal to maintain everything intact. we know now this was not the case on saturday. police said the 16-year-old was run over by an emergency vehicle following saturday's plane crash. >> this confirmed the fire truck did go over the victim at least one time. >> the investigation reveals the ground was covered in white foamy fire retardant.

the 16-year-old discovered when firefighters tried to reposition the truck. >> you can imagine as if fresh snowfall. when you drive around create new track that's is how the victim was discovered. >> ways not aware they were going to come out to make that statement today. >> this caught the coroner by surprise. he refused to say if there were tire marks on the body but the chinese consulate told abc 7 news parents were told by the coroner their daughter was struck by the truck. the coroner has yet to reveal the cause of death. the plane crash x or being run over by the truck. he tells us there are ways of knowing if vital organs were damaged before, or after she was hit by the truck. >> we determined whether those injuries are prior to death or post mortem. >> meaning if she was already dead there would be no bleeding from injuries sustained bit fire truck.

examination is just one way of determining the cause. the process involves looking over police properties to make sure pieces add up. the coroner may tell us more sometime next week. >> thank you. new developments out of sfo. runway 28 left covered with debris. investigators finished their job at the scene. crews have been working to clear debris and repair the runway. wayne? this afternoon what some now call next miracle of runway 28 left sent by being 2:00 p.m. the staff painted lines and patched gouges left behind from impact.

21-month-old that went missing wednesday morning. investigators say the father walked into this market to buy a drink leaving the girl in his truck with his 87-year-old mother to watch her. wesh says when he returned the girl was gone which launched a search. investigators even searched the home of webb's name neighbors for clue autos just knocked on the door something personal information for my social, name, what kind of car i drive. asking me if i've seen the girl, her parents. >> thursday, police arrested webb on suspension of felony child endangerment. in a surprising turn the district attorney told abc 7 news, quote no, charges are being filed against webb pending further investigation. police conducting a three-tiered investigation treating the days peer yenss a missing person, kidnapping and child endangerment.

again today. the first time both sides met base to face since talks started last week. the union tells abc 7 news they made progress today, good news for commuters. workers are threatening to go on strike again august 4th if they zront a contract. >> reaction pouring in after janet napolitano announced she's stepping down as homeland security secretary. she'd been nominated to become president of the uc system. the story from nannette mirror randa. after a high profile career as arizona governor, and current homeland security secretary, janet napolitano is set to become university of california president becoming the first woman to hold this position n a letter the 55-year-old democrat says if confirmed i will accept the privilege of leading one of the finest university systems in the country. napolitano is an unconventional pick outside of the world of ak deema. one

regent said she was chosen because she has a track record for tackling tough challenges and seeing them through. >> she may, you know not have such an appearance of being in an ivory tower. you see how the pope is changing things in rome. it may be time to things in the president's office. >> uc has been under fire in recent years because funding diminished students saw tuition doubling to $12,000 a year under the outgoing president but napolitano brings with her some star power that is expected to bring in more research money and her political acumen could help change priority autos she'll be able to stand before legislature. without flinching. and say, you know... the constitution of the state of california says the most important priority shoulding education of children through the university.

pressure on fda to end the ban against bay men giving blood. the fda banned donations from men who have sex with other men because of the risk of tainted blood. >> due to the testing that was not available at this point the fda decided in order to prevent hiv from entering the blood supply that certain individuals would not allowed to donate blood. >> testing has improved and today gay men being asked to have their blood tested. if they're hiv negative they're urged to try to give blood. organizers say the gay community should not be treated as diseased. >> what if you're able to choose the sex of your baby. well, according to research from stanford, you can. biologists study mammals at the zoo say expectant moms have ability to choose whether to have a boy or girl. but there is a catch. it's not a conscious decision. researchers say female body factors in a host of
