>> good morning, everyone. i'm carolyn tyler. thanks for joining us on this sunday, july 14ing. let's start with a quick first look at the weather with meteorologist fran ding, who is in for lease arrange. >> good morning, everything. if you liked yesterday you will probably like today. similar conditions. fog reported in santa rosa. its currently 52 degrees. this morning around 7:00 we will start with the low clouds again. most of us in the 50s and then a big summertime spread in terms of temperatures. 60s at the coast to 90s inland. big changes coming up shortly in my next forecast, carolyn. >> thank you. george zimmerman is a freeman in florida this morning after a not guilty verdict in the shooting death of trayvon martin.

that has sparked protests across the country. we have marcie gonzales live outside the courtroom with the very latest. >> did morning. within minutes of the verdict being read last night, george zimmerman left the courthouse and went into hiding. >> we, the jury, find george zimmerman not guilty. >> george zimmerman is a freeman. >> your gps monitor will be cutoff when you exit the courtroom over here, and you have no further business with the court. >> the 29-year-old in court smiling. acquitted of manslaughter and second degree murder, avoiding the potential of life in prison. >> i think the prosecution of george zimmerman was disgraceful. i am gratified by the jury's verdict. >> the verdict coming after 16 hours of deliberations. seventeen months after zimmerman

killed trayvon martin. zimmerman claimed he shot the teen in self-defense. the jury now agreeing the shooting was not a crime. their decision sparking protest, including this one in oakland, california, where dozens marched through the streets smashing windows ever businesses and a police car. here outside of the seminole county courthouse, they reacted to the verdict peacefully, some with support for trayvon martin's parents, who were in court every step of the way during the nearly month-long trial, except last night. too emotional to sit in the room as the verdict was read. >> we are very, very, very saddened, but we accept the jury's verdict in this case. first and foremost, on behalf of tracy martin and sabrina fulton, who were just heartbroken. >> and they, and zimmerman, have

received death threats. in fact, we are told that played into the decision by martin's parents not to be here last night. live in florida, marcie gonzales, abc news. >> thanks for the update, marcy. oakland-based civil rights attorney john burriss said he's not surprised by the verdict. >> the prosecution put on a witness that said that there was a fight that was taking place, it looked like a fight but trayvon was on top of mr. zimmerman. the prosecution put that witness on. that witness turned out to be a better witness for the defense, and in my own view ultimately was a linchpin of the defense's case. >> as you saw in marcy's report, a march turned violent after demonstrators took to the streets in oakland protesting the zimmerman verdict. you are looking at video from sky hd. they marched through town, starting small fires and smashing windows at several

businesses. officers in riot gear were dispatched downtown as protesters burned several flags on 14th street and vandalized police cars. no word yet on any arrests. across the bay in san francisco, protesters marched peacefully through the mission district after gathering at the 24th street bart station. hundreds marched down valencia street chanting "justice for trayvon martin." >> it's a brother, a family member. how many more communities have to be targeted before they decide this is a racist system. >> the young man trayvon martin was put on trial for his own murder. >> it was very unfair that he is free and he actually killed trayvon martin for nothing. >> the crowds in mission street marched for about two hours and then disbursed peacefully. police kept a presence in the mission districtover night. more marchs are planned in san francisco and oakland today. all lanes on interstate 580

in oakland reopened following a shooting that shut down the freeing for hours. you are looking at video from sky 7hd of the scene of the shooting, which happened just before 8:30 near seminary avenue. traffic was backed up for about a mile. neighbors say they heard what appeared to be a gun battle. >> i counted them and then i asked my neighbor and she said yeah, there were six, and i heard six of them, pow, pow, pow, pow. but we hear them a lot around here unfortunately. >> did you hear a car crash? >> no. >> i heard a gunshot, two or three and then just a short period of time passed and i heard return fire, like six rapid one right after another. >> no word on injuries or arrests. that shooting is under investigation.

vallejo police have arrested a woman after detectives say she left her baby inside a gas station restroom. officers found the mother at a home on wilshire avenue around 9:45 last night. there's the baby who spent an hour in the restroom at the chevron station on lincoln road east. surveillance video shows the boy being wheeled into the bathroom and then it shows someone who looks like her leaving a few minutes later without him. >> the female subject had taken the child in there in a stroller. the stroller was -- the seatbelt was on so the child was very frustrated when the citizen went in there and found the child basically tied up in the stroller. >> that baby has been placed in emergency foster care. there is still no sign after missing 21-month-old girl in oakland. daphne webb was last seen wednesday morning in her father's car. the father was released from

jail fry after police dropped charges of child endangerment against him. now to the latest on the crash at sfo. a vigil for the victims of flight 214 was held in burlingame this weekend. among those in attendance were the parents of two of the victims. the vigil was sponsored by the buddhist group such. they said the ceremony should help with the ceiling. >> hits important we give the income and love from the people in the bay area. and radiate that kind of love and energy to those families. >> flowers were laid on a flat form there, showing compassion for those who died and those still suffering. we are now learning more about the third victim of the asiana airline crash. she was a 17-year-old chinese national and never regained consciousness after the crash.

itit is 5:11 on this sunday morning. here's a live shot from our emeryville cam. it is about 65 degrees right now. low clouds moving in there and throughout the bay. francis dinglasan is here and she will have your full accuweather forecast in just a bit. some shocking news. "glee" actor corey monteith was found dead yesterday in a hotel in downtown vancouver. the 31-year-old checked in on july 6th, was scheduled to check out yesterday. when he failed to do so, staff went to his room and found his body. police say there were others with monteith in his room on friday night, but video and key faub entries show him returning to his room alone in the early morning hours. he stalked about his struggles with drug and alcohol addiction and had recently gone back into

treatment. authorities say foul play is not suspected in his death. as president obama looks to push forward with immigration reform, it appears the house is slowing down movement on the bill. today on "this week" they debate whether a peace feel approach can move immigration reform early and whether the house will ever consider a path to citizenship. you can catch "this week" right here on abc7 at 8:00 this morning. new this morning a three-alarm fire has destroyed an 80-year-old business. that fire broke out just before 6:00 yesterday evening on petaluma avenue. that feed store said to be the largest for farmers in the west county. it's their longest running business. fire crews are calling the business a total loss. no word yet on what sparked the blaze, but investigators are calling that fire suspicious. we have new details this morning about the man charged

with killing two women at san francisco's jewelrymart. the suspect has been identified as 23-year-old barry white of antioch. on bring does not appear to be the motive. there was a rifle in the back of white's car. police say he attacked three people friday afternoon inside the jewelry shop at the san francisco gift center and jewelrymart. one woman was shot and another stabbed. another employee was wounded and he's in critical condition this morning. white surrendered after firing at officers. yesterday the jewelrymart was closed but some tenants showed up. >> they had to have a security guard escort me to my showroom. >> what did you see as you went through the building? >> it was all empty. there was not that many people working today. >> white was booked on two counts of murder, seven counts ever attempted murder. san francisco police believe

an illegal turn caused a crash between a van and a muni light rail vehicle yesterday afternoon. it's at third street and 7th avenue. looked like he turned left directly into the path of the train on the t-line. it injured 19 people. some of them hurt by broken glass after the van struck a light pole and that pole smashed through a window on the train. >> i was really scared. i didn't know what it was. i just seen it coming and i hurry up and covered up my baby. >> ambulances rushed the injured muni passengers to hospitals across san francisco. the fire can want said they suffered minor to moderate injuries, fortunately. it delayed traffic at that busy intersection for several hours. the look of downtown berkeley is about to change as construction on the area's largest apartment building will

go forward. atchison commons will be a 205 unit building built on university avenue over the next three years. last week a group fighting the project chose not to appeal it. they were worried it would replace low income housing and cause parking problems and change the skyline but the developer plans to help move the low income units to a new location. that project will also add 34,000 feet of commercial space and rehabilitate historic buildings and facades in the area. this afternoon the emirates team new zealand will race unopposed a day after thousands turn out to watch the first head-to-head race leading up to the america's cup. yesterday the kiwi's beat the luna russo. >> all the hype and everything that happened over the last 18 months is going to come to

fruition. i think it's really going to happen. >> yesterday's race was part of the louis vuitton cup series. the winner will defend the defending champion oracle in september. the next head-to-head race is next sunday. giants pitcher tim lincecum has joined an elite baseball fraternity. >> high in the air and catchable. blanco, a no-hitter for tim lincecum! >> way to go, timmy. the giants mobbed lincecum after the final out of last night's 9-0 win over the padres in san diego. we will have more on the giants third no-hitter in the past four years coming up in sports. wow! the team has not been doing that well this season so that really was something. >> it's great to see them doing well again. of course, always cheer for our home team. >> that's right. and great to see you here this

morning, francis. >> thanks. it's nice to be here. lisa is off today. she'll be back soon. another nice day ahead of us. going to live doppler 7hd. quiet weather, low clouds all along the coast, spilling into the bay right now. current temperatures mostly in the 50s as we look from our kgo roof camera over the embark dare row, the bay bridge. you see the gray skies in the background. it's currently 54 in san francisco. so grab a jacket if you are heading outdoors early. 57 in san jose and 56 in santa cruz. a live shot of the golden gate bridge. so you can see visibility still pretty clear here along this span but low clouds overhead and fog already reported in santa rosa where it's currently 52. cool in napa at 49 degrees. also no sought toe at 48. we could see more valley fog develop in the next few hours. then we will see some sunny conditions once again. actually much like tomorrow --

yesterday, rather. cool and breezy tomorrow. got a little ahead of myself. here's what is happening with the pacific saltalamacchia image. this is an area of high pressure. this is a typical summer pattern. sunny today with the coastal clouds but then cooler air moving in, bringing changes tomorrow where we will see a stronger onshore flow, as well. breezier conditions especially along the coast. and this morning you can expect the fog to pull back to the coast by late morning most of us and sunny conditions and then by afternoon pretty much sunshine for everyone with the exception of the coast. so warm temperatures inland once again in the 90s. 70s around the bay, and some 60s along the coast. we will get to the temperatures right now. if you are in the south bay look for some low 80s again in san jose. 87 in morgan hill. warmer there. upper 70s on the lower part of the peninsula. 77 in palo alto, up to 81 in los altos.

62 sunset district and downtown san francisco 66. you will notice the clouds making their way back in later on this evening. highs today in the north bay range from the 70s and 80s all the way up to 94 in clear lake. again, one of the hotter spots. 70s in the east bay. very comfortable and mild in berkeley at 70. 77 in castro valley. inland communities once again quite warm. upper 80s to low 90s. 89 in pittsburgh, 85 in san ramon. if you are headed to the a's game today, it's at 1:05. you will be very comfortable. i don't think you will even need your jacket. at 1:05 temperatures will be at 70 degrees and when the game ends 72 with lots of sunshine. here's the accuweather seven-day forecast. there is a bit of a change. so today is going to be much like yesterday. temperatures very similar. a few degrees up or down in some locations. and then tomorrow you will notice a drop in temperature. anywhere from six to four

>> welcome back. we are starting with a quick look at the weather. >> good morning, everyone. the cool spot in novato, and foggy and 52 in san jose. monterey bay, 50s as well. >> 53 watsonville. only 50 in gilroy. we see the low clouds overhead once again spilling into the bay, as we look at the bay bridge. temperatures similar to yesterday foreign land communities, upper 70s to lowed 0s again. around the bay we will see mid-to upper 60s all the way to upper 70s. along the coast that's where things kind of hold steadty. it's going to be like that most of the week along the coast. 58 to 62 degrees. but we do have some changes

foreign land communities and around the bay coming up with the seven-day forecast in my next report. carolyn. >> thank you, francis. we have breaking news out of san jose where police are investigating the fatal shooting of a even age boy early this morning. it happened just after 1:00 at while and story roads. police found the boy, believed to be about 17 years old, inside a car suffering from gunshot wounds. he was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. no arrests have been made. this shooting marks the city's 28th homicide of the year. in developing news out of florida, george zimmerman will wake up in morning a freeman after 16 hours of jury deliberations. he's been cleared of all charges in the fatal shooting ever 17-year-old trayvon martin. a your found the neighborhood watch man not guilty of murder last night and declined to convict him on a lesser charge of manslaughter.

tomorrow two juries will begin deliberation necessary the beating and rape of a girl at richmond high school. the two men are on trial for the 2009 gang rape of a 16-year-old girl on campus during their homecoming dance. the 22 and 23-year-old men are being tried in the same courtroom. each defend has his own jury, which will deliberate separately. if convicted both men face life in prison. four others have also been charged in this case. two have already accepted plea deals. happening today nonunion workers will hold a one-day strike t comes as the airport fast-food workers and other employees protest what they call unfair labor practices. workers say they faced retaliation by their employers earlier this year when they tried to form a union.

the city of san jose is considering a law that would ban styrofoam containers from restaurants. tomorrow's the city's environmental services department will host their second informational meeting for restaurant operators. in an effort to help businesses phase out the styrofoam use, the meeting will provide information about alternative food containers. city council members approved the draft for the ban earlier this year. every day more hybrid and electric cars are out on the roads, but what about a car you never need to plug in or fill up? well, they are building one at stanford. as abc7 news reporter jonathan bloom explains, they are about to drive all the way across australia, powered by nothing but the sun. >> turning left. >> left. >> it's not roomy or luxurious and it's got the smallest steering wheel you have ever seen. but it's not built for comfort, it's built to win.

fever. proud brits counting down the days until a new monarch is born. in days the duchess is expected to deliver and more are staked out to capture the first images of the future condition or queen of england. the baby is due any day. that's welcome news on a number of fronts, not the least of which is financial. proceeds from tourism and product sales related to the birth are expected to pump nearly $400 million into the british economy. $90 million alone is expected to be spent on some $3 million bottles of champagne purchased to toast the new baby's birth. >> the new baby is absolutely good for the british economy. >> from the royal wedding to the wimbledon championship to andy murray to the queen's jubilee, and now a new baby. >> baby items are falling off store shelves.

>> san francisco's exploratorium has a new exhibit. it's about the science of skateboarding. it's portable see it can travel and it was developed with expert, but underage advisers. here's dan ashley with the details. weather you are a sidewalk surfer or an ex-game superstar, if you skateboard, you also do physics. the exploratorium has been using skateboarding to teach scientific principles for more than a decade.

they even have it online. >> center ever gravity, inertia. >> you can learn about the trucks that turn the wheels as you shift your weight, or why different types of materials are better for different types of skateboarding. >> can i suggest you try these wheels? >> or check this out. this is about finding center of gravity by balancing the board on the tip of your finger. there you go. scientific no-how for all this came from the exploreium staff, but this exhibit is aimed at teenagers so they were brought in to design it. >> i think it's good. i want to learn more about skateboarding. >> they worked with san franciscoer middle schoolers. there was serious expertise in this group. >> i have been skateboarding for a long, long time. >> the kids helped brainstorm ideas to make the concept come alive.

we were there a few months ago as they painted skate boards to liven up the outside of the exhibit. >> the kids are starting to refer to this as their project. it's our project together. when i heard that, that was like the most gratifying thing. they are really taking ownership. >> met life funded this with a grant but the kids supplied the energy. >> it's hard to get them focused on anything, and today all of a sudden 30 kids were focused on one thing. it's ex-soot to go see that and to see them care. >> when the exhibit was unveiled outside the exploratorium, the skateboarders came to check out their work and the activities were a hit. but the artwork is what really made them proud. >> i painted these two ones and a little of this one and this one. like i'm famous and all that. >> all the other people with the skate boards at sunset, that was our idea. >> you can visit it right now. a good lesson in physics and

>> well, we are talking about the weather, and it's looking good this week. very minor differences day-by-day. >> yeah, exactly. in fact, it's much like yesterday. you are exactly right. we are going to take you to live doppler 7hd to show you what i mean. the doppler 7 around the bay area, pretty quiet. low clouds again all along the coast, spilling into the bay. so it is very much like yesterday. but check out this beautiful view from the east bay hills looking towards the east and mt. diablo. we will see the sunrise in about ten minutes. we will see some pretty pictures there. what you also see here, notice the fog.

you will see some fog moving in, so that's radiational fog coming in from the coast, and you also see fog pooling in the valleys. actually that's the radiational fog and the infectious fog is moving in from the coast. san francisco right now 54, oakland 57. mountain view 59. and another view. you see those low clouds once again at the top of the golden gate bridge. gray to start, but we will see a lot of sunshine once again. currently 52 in santa rosa. already foggy there. and 55 in liver more, and los gatos at 54. here's what you can expect for the day. we've got the low clouds, patchy fog once again. mostly sunny, except for the coast. and then the changes come tomorrow. we will see cooler and breezy conditions with a stronger on shore flow. here's why we have this area of high pressure that brings us a typical summertime pattern. sunny inland, cloudy at the coast, but cooler air with a stronger onshore flow will bring
