>> good morning, everyone. i'm carolyn tyler. thanks for joining us on this sunday, july some 11th. let's start with a quick first look at the weather. francis dinglasan is in for meteorologist lisa argen. >> good morning everyone. 40 in novato to upper 50s. we saw this beautiful sunrise happen a minute ago as we are looking from mt. tam toward the east bay. just gorgeous. you also see a lot of the low clouds of that filled in from the coast. but we will see another sunny day inland with temperatures into the low 90s. very similar around the bay but cool along the coast. there are changes coming your way. i'll have them in the next

forecast. carolyn. >> thank you, francis. george zimmerman is a free man in florida this morning after a not guilty verdict in the shooting death of trayvon martin. that has sparked protests across the country. >> within minutes of leaving the courthouse, george zimmerman left the courthouse and went into hiding. >> we, the jury, find the defendant, george zimmerman, not guilty. >> your gps will be cutoff when you exit the courtroom here and you have no further business with the court. the defendant smiling. he avoid the the potential of life in prison. >> i think the prosecution of george zimmerman was disgraceful. i am gratified by the jury's verdict. >> the verdict coming after 16 hours of deliberations. seventeen months after zimmerman killed trayvon martin.

zimmerman maintained he shot the teen in self-defense. the jury now agreeing the shooting was not a crime. their decision sparking protest, including this one in oakland, california, where dozens marched through the streets smashing windows of businesses and a police car. >> justice for trayvon, justice for trayvon! >> here outside of the seminole county courthouse, they reacted to the verdict peacefully, some with support for trayvon martin's parents, who were in court every step of the way during the nearly month-long trial, except last night. too emotional to sit in the room as the verdict was read. >> we are very, very, very saddened, but we accept the jury's verdict in this case. first and foremost, on behalf of tracy martin and sabrina fulton, who were just heartbroken.

>> and they, and zimmerman, have received death threats. in fact, we are told that played into the decision by martin's parents not to be here last night. live in florida, marcie gonzales, abc news. now back to you. >> marcy, thank you for that live report. oakland-based civil rights attorney john burriss said he's not surprised by the verdict. >> the prosecution put on a witness that said that there was a fight that was taking place, it looked like a fight but trayvon was on top of mr. zimmerman. the prosecution put that witness on. that witness turned out to be a better witness for the defense, and in my own view ultimately was a linchpin of the defense's case. >> a march turned violent overnight as demonstrators took to the streets in oakland protesting the zimmerman verdict. you are looking at video from sky hd. they marched through town, starting small fires and smashing windows at several businesses.

officers in riot gear were dispatched downtown as protesters burned flags on 14th street and vandalized police cars. no word yet on any arrests. across the bay in san francisco, protesters marched peacefully through the mission district after gathering at the 24th street bart station. hundreds marched down valencia street chanting "justice for trayvon martin." >> it's a son, it's a brother. it's a family member. how many more communities have to be targeted before they decide this is a racist system. >> the young man trayvon martin was put on trial for his own murder. >> it was very unfair that he is free and he actually killed trayvon martin for nothing. >> the crowds in mission street marched for about two hours and then disbursed peacefully. police kept a presence in the mission district overnight. more marchs are planned in san francisco and oakland today.

there's one at powell and market street at 4:00. two more or planned in oakland. one starts at 3:00 p.m. at 73rd and international boulevard and 14th street and broadway at four. all lanes on interstate 580 in oakland reopened following a shooting that shut down the freeway for hours. you are looking at video from sky 7hd of the scene of the shooting, which happened just before 8:30 near seminary avenue. traffic was backed up for about a mile. neighbors say they heard what appeared to be a gun battle. >> i counted them and then i asked my neighbor and she said yeah, there were six, and i heard six of them, pow, pow, pow, pow. but we hear them a lot around here unfortunately. >> did you hear a car crash? >> no. >> and normally we would. that's why we were shocked i didn't hear that because normally we would hear a car crash. >> i heard a gunshot, two or three and then just a short

period of time passed and i heard return fire, like six rapid one right after another. >> no word on injuries or arrests. that shooting is under investigation. vallejo police have arrested a woman after detectives say she left her baby inside a gas station restroom. officers found the mother at a home on wilshire avenue around 9:45 last night. her baby spent about an hour in the restroom at the chevron station on lincoln road east. surveillance video shows the boy being wheeled into the bathroom and then it shows someone who looks like her leaving a few minutes later without him. >> the female subject had taken the child in there in a stroller. the stroller was -- the seatbelt was on, so the child was very frustrated when the citizen went in there and found the child basically tied up in the stroller. >> that baby has been placed in emergency foster care.

there is still no sign after -- of a missing 21-month-old girl in oakland. daphne webb was last seen wednesday morning in her father's car. the father, john anthony webb, was released from jail friday after police dropped charges of child endangerment against him. now to the latest on the crash at sfo. a vigil for the victims of flight 214 was held in burlingame this weekend. among those in attendance were the parents of two of the victims. the vigil was sponsored by the buddhist group suchi. they said the ceremony should help with the ceiling. -- help with the healing. >> its important we give the family love from the people in the bay area.

and radiate that kind of love and energy to those families. >> flowers were laid on a flat form there, showing compassion for those who died and those still suffering. we are now learning more about the third victim of the asiana airline crash. she was a 17-year-old chinese national and never regained consciousness after the crash. at last report 13 people remained hospitalized, six at sf general, two in critical condition. two are at mills peninsula, two at california pacific, one each at stanford, st. mary's and st. francis. south korea has filed an official protest with the national transportation safety board regarding asiana. sky 7hd was over the northern end of sfo yesterday with a piece of the plane was placed. south korea is complaining about the amount of information given out regarding the investigation. korean officials asked the ntsb for, quote, a faithful and periodic disclosure of accident information. you can keep on top of any breaking developments in the

"glee" actor corey monteith was found dead yesterday in a hotel in downtown vancouver. the 31-year-old checked in on july 6th, was scheduled to check out yesterday.

when he failed to do so, staff went to his room and found his body. police say there were others with monteith in his room on friday night, but video and key faub entries show him returning to his room alone in the early morning hours. he talked about his struggles with drug and alcohol addiction and had recently gone back into treatment. authorities say foul play is not suspected in his death. as president obama looks to push forward with immigration reform, it appears the house is slowing down movement on the bill. today on "this week" they debate whether a piece meal approach can move immigration reform early and whether the house will ever consider a path to citizenship. you can catch "this week" right here on abc7 at 8:00 this morning. new this morning a three-alarm fire has destroyed an 80-year-old business. that fire broke out just before

6:00 yesterday evening on petaluma avenue. that feed store said to be the largest for farmers in the west county. it's their longest running business. fire crews are calling the business a total loss. you can see why with all that thick, black smoke. no word yet on what sparked the blaze, but investigators are calling that fire suspicious. we have new details this morning about the man charged with killing two women at san francisco's jewelrymart. the suspect has been identified as 23-year-old barry white of antioch. authorities say robbery does not appear to be a motive. there was a rifle in the back of white's car. police say he attacked three people friday afternoon inside the jewelry shop at the san francisco giftcenter and jewelrymart. one woman was shot and another stabbed. another employee was wounded and he's in critical condition this morning. white surrendered after firing

at officers. yesterday the jewelrymart was closed but some tenants showed up. >> they had to have a security guard escort me to my showroom. >> what did you see as you went through the building? >> it was all empty. there was not that many people working today. >> white was booked on two counts of murder, seven counts of attempted murder. san francisco police believe an illegal turn caused a crash between a van and a muni light rail vehicle yesterday afternoon. sky 7hd shows us the scene at third street and evans avenue. it appears the van's driver turned left and into the path of the lrt on the t-line. it injured 19 people. some of them hurt by broken glass after the van struck a light pole and that pole smashed through a window on the train. >> i was really scared. i didn't know what it was. i just seen it coming and i

hurry up and covered up my baby. >> ambulances rushed the injured muni passengers to hospitals across san francisco. the fire department said they suffered minor to moderate injuries, fortunately. it delayed traffic at that busy intersection for several hours. the look of downtown berkeley is about to change as construction on the area's largest apartment building will go forward. atchison commons will be a 205 unit building built on university avenue over the next three years. last week a group fighting the project chose not to appeal it. they were worried it would replace low income housing and cause parking problems and change the skyline. the developer plans to help move the low income units to a new location. that project will also add 34,000 feet of commercial space and rehabilitate historic buildings and facades in the area. this afternoon the emirates team new zealand will race

unopposed a day after thousands turn out to watch the first head-to-head race leading up to the america's cup. yesterday the kiwis beat the luna russo. they beat them by more than five minutes in their race near the marina green. there's at least one fan that thinks interest in the races will now grow. >> i think there will be bigger crowds. with all the hype that happened over the last 18 months, it's going to come to fruition. i think it's really going to happen. >> yesterday's race was part of the louis vuitton cup series. the winner of that race will defend the defending champion oracle in september. the next head-to-head race is next sunday. giants pitcher tim lincecum has joined an elite baseball fraternity. >> high in the air and catchable. blanco. a no-hitter for tim lincecum!

the giants mobbed lincecum after the final out of last night's 9-0 win over the padres in san diego. we will have more on the giants third no-hitter in the past four years coming up in sports. i heard timmy saying he was getting a little bit nervous at the end. >> oh, my gosh, he's so awesome. i love watching him. and i love the bay area whether, too. we are going to have another nice day, beautiful for the weekend. here's a live look. pretty quiet conditions right now. low clouds filling in from the coast. and i want to take you to a live shot from mt. tam. lots of low clouds out there. so you will see the sunshine eventually. inland communities are getting a lot of sunshine. temperatures right now mainly in the 50s. 54 in san francisco. 58 in oakland. and 57 in san jose. now we are beneath the clouds. golden gate bridge, you see it

right at the top of the bridge. but looking pretty gray out there. but things will change. santa rosa had some fog earlier. currently at 52. fairfield at 55. novato is still hanging on to 48 degrees. so once again, we are dealing with the low clouds, patchy fog. but mostly sunny conditions today except for the coast. cooler and breezy starting tomorrow. here is why. we have this area of high pressure. very typical of summertime setup. that gives us the coastal clouds, but sunny conditions inland today. but we have cooler air moving in starting tomorrow with a stronger onshore breeze. temperatures will drop by a few degrees in some locations. a look at the forecast model shows the clouds and fog quickly pulling back to the coast by late morning. most of it under clear skies. maybe patchy fog and clouds lingering in the bay. then by lunchtime, lots of sunshine for everyone except along the coast. we will see the big spread in temperatures. once again 60s along the

coast. warm inland, though. low 90s for you and 70s around the bay. we will get to the numbers for your neighborhood. 87 morgan hill. 81 san jose, 85 in los gatos, and some upper 70s redwood city, palo alto, mountain view at 78. but half moon bay around 62 again today, as well as the sunset district. partly cloudy conditions. the closer you get to the ocean, the more clouds you will see. 66 downtown san francisco. clear lake will hit a high once again of 94 today. ukiah 94. look for 82 in calistoga. very nice and comfortable in the east bay. 70, just perfect. 72 oakland, 677 in castro valley, hercules and fremont. look for plenty of sunshine early on in the interior valleys. 89 in pittsburgh. a lot of 80s and low 90s. 85 in san ramon, and 90 in livermore. if you are headed to the a's game today, i don't think you will need a jacket. it will be mice and sunny.

cloudy along the coast, 68 to 62 degrees. carolyn. >> francis, thank you. we have breaking news out of san jose where police are investigating the fatal shooting of a teenage boy early this morning. it happened just after 1:00 at while and story roads. police found the boy, believed to be about 17 years old, inside a car suffering from gunshot wounds. he was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. no arrests have been made. this shooting marks the city's 28th homicide of the year. in developing news out of florida, george zimmerman will wake up this morning a free man after 16 hours of jury deliberations. he's been cleared of all charges in the fatal shooting ever 17-year-old trayvon martin. a jury found the neighborhood watchman not guilty of murder last night and declined to convict him on a lesser charge of manslaughter.

workers at oakland international airport will hold a one-day strike. it comes at fast-food workers and other employees protest what they call unfair labor practices. they say they faced retaliation by their employers earlier this year when they tried to form a union. the city of san jose is considering a law that would ban styrofoam containers in restaurants. tomorrow's the city's environmental services department will host their second informational meeting for restaurant operators. in an effort to help businesses phase out the styrofoam use, the meeting will provide information about alternative food containers. city council members approved the draft for the ban earlier this year. every day more hybrid and electric cars are out on the roads, but what about a car you never need to plug in or fill up? well, they are building one at stanford. as abc7 news reporter jonathan bloom explains, they are about to drive all the way across australia, powered by nothing but the sun.

the past few years, from the royal wedding to the wimbledon championship to andy murray to the queen's jubilee, and now a new baby. >> roayl baby-related items are falling off store shelves. among those buying is this woman from california. she said she penalty thousands -- she said she has already spent thousands of dollars preordering merchandise. >> everybody loves will and kate. how could they not be excited about it. >> this guy spent dozens of hours singing his praises to a future monarch. >> the entire world is ready for the new baby, including local economists, who predict the $400 million in tourism sales will increase tenfold once we have a gender, name, and an image of the future monarch. >> we will have much more on the royal baby. that's coming up in just a few minutes on "good morning america" "at 7:00.

today. and francis says breezy, a small craft advisory. she will be along shortly with your accuweather forecast. >> san francisco's exploratorium has a new exhibit. it's pretty exciting. it's about the science of skateboarding. it's portable, so it can travel and it was developed with expert, but underage advisers. here's dan ashley with the details. weather you are a sidewalk surfer or an x-game superstar, if you skateboard, you also do physics. the exploratorium has been using skateboarding to teach scientific principles for more than a decade. they even have it online. >> center of gravity, inertia. good but now developers are taking the exhibit even further with a traveling exhibit for a wider audience.

it's not just here. >> you can learn about the trucks that turn the wheels as you shift your weight, or why different types of materials are better for different types of skateboarding. >> can i suggest you try these wheels? >> or check this out. this is about finding the center by balancing the board on the tip of your finger. there you go. scientific know-how for all this came from the exploratorium staff, but this exhibit is aimed at teenagers so they were brought in to design it. i want to learn more about skateboarding. >> the exploratorium worked with san francisco middle-schoolers. there was serious expertise in this group. >> the kids helped brainstorm ideas to make the concept come alive. we were there a few months ago as they painted skate boards to liven up the outside of the exhibit. >> the kids are starting to refer to this as their project. it's our project together. when i heard that, that was like the most gratifying thing. they are really taking ownership. >> met life funded this with a

grant, but the kids supplied the energy. >> it's hard to get them focused on anything, and today all of a sudden 30 kids were focused on one thing. it's exciting to see that and to see them care. >> when the exhibit was unveiled outside the exploratorium, the skateboarders came to check out their work and the activities were a hit. but the artwork is what really made them proud. >> i painted these two ones and a little of this one and this one. like i'm famous and all that. >> all the other people with the skate boards at sunset, that was our idea. >> you can visit it right now. it's in front. exploratorium. a good lesson in physics and fun. >> you can say wow. just wow! >> dan ashley, abc7 news. >> great job, kids. dan is telling us that this skateboard exhibit is built to travel, so you might see it pop up in other locations soon.

starting tomorrow. that will continue into tuesday. so here's why. the pacific satellite image shows this area of high pressure, very typical setup for the summertime weather, bringing us sunny conditions but then cool along the coast with the clouds lingering. on monday is when we start to see some cooler air move in with a stronger sea breeze. the onshore flow will bring temperatures down monday and tuesday. the forecast model shows the clouds pulling back. most of us under sunny conditions. by lunchtime, if you are along the coast that's where you are see the clouds. inland it will be warm again, into the 90s. we will check out the temperatures for your neighborhood right now. in san jose 81. 87 morgan hill. 88 gilroy. cupertino 79. also nice on the peninsula. 73 san mateo, 77 palo alto. half moon bay right around 62. it will be there all week just at 62, as well as the sunset district with the clouds closer to the coast.

in the north bay also a wide range of temperatures. you will find some 670s. all the way up to the 90s. 94 ukiah and clear lake and 79 in sonoma. more 70s in the east bay with 70 in berkeley and 77 in castro valley. quite warm once again, upper 80s for the most part to low 90s inland, with the exception of san ramon at 85. overnight lows will be mainly in the 50s. we will see the clouds spread inland a little bit more tonight. that's going to give way to cooler conditions on monday. so today will be much like yesterday. maybe a degree fluctuation here and there. but look for the breezy conditions to pick up on monday, and then we will be below normal temperatures on tuesday. we will start to climb back up again wednesday, thursday, friday. we will be right back to where we started on saturday. so typical and comfortable and
