he can what happened is cleaning up after hundreds of protesters marched through downtown following the acquittal of george zimmerman. he was charged with murdering trayvon martin in florida last year. good morning. oakland mayor just talked with reporters about the mess left in her city by the demonstrations. amy joins us live with more. >> reporter: and the mayor is upset. they trying to stimulate the economy and this does not help

their efforts at all. this morning we saw several businesses cleaning up from the weekend mess. there is broken windows, g graffiti on the walls. we saw everything from banks to locally owned businesses vand vandali vandalized. the city is still trying to assess the damage. the mayor said this all happened quickly and it was a small group of people, but it demanded a lot of resources. they had to pull police from all over the city to respond. she says they just can't afford to do that. we have a variety of responses for you to listen to this morning including a business owner who wants to keep the attention on trayvon martin. but we'll start with the mayor. >> so when you break the windows of restaurants, you really are hurting the economy and you're hurting the jobs that are being created. but the main thing is that it dishonors the memory of trayvon. >> the window can be replaced. i don't think that speaks to the

real issue, which is equality. >> didn't come out like most expected. however, this is our city. so really doesn't make any sense because it doesn't accomplish anything. >> reporter: the mayor points out that hundreds of people peacefully protested the verdict here in oakland during the day. it was just a small group that did all of the damage at night. she said they did pull police into watch over the weekend just in case. it turns out even though they pulled in so many police and so much damage was done, they managed to only make one arrest. >> amy, thank you so much. protests may continue as we learn new information about george zimmerman and his future.

kyra has more. >> cheryl, we know george zimmerman is in hiding with his family outside the state of florida. critics are calling on the justice department to step into file criminal charges. and just within the last hour, the white house announced president obama will not get involved. >> reporter: for the first time since george zimmerman's not guilty verdict was read you can his attorneys are speaking out about their client. the 29-year-old will soon get back a very important piece of evidence in the trial, the gun he used to kill trayvon martin. in an exclusive interview, george zimmerman's attorney says he needs it now more than ever to protect himself. >> he has become the focus of a lot of people's dismay, disgust, anger about the events that happened that night. >> is he scared? >> absolutely. he's been scared for 16 month and i think he has a good reason to be worried. >> trayvon's parents returned to church yesterday in mourning. their attorneys also spoke to

"good morning america" today. >> after going through just devastation, they were heartbroken because they really wanted the killer of their unarmed son to be held accountable. they went through the grieving process all over again. >> reporter: as supporters of trayvon continue protesting the acquittal, this morning attorney general eric holder issued a statement about the verdict that reads in part, as parents, as engaged citizens and as leaders who stand vigilant against violence in communities across the country, the justice department shares your concern and we have opened an investigation into the matter. so that investigation was opened last year, but it remains to be seen if it will actually file criminal charges against george zimmerman. also the martin family is likely to file its own civil suit against zimmerman. in the newsroom, kyra clapper, abc 7. and happening now, police are asking for the public's help after a pedestrian was hit and

killed this morning. it happened at university avenue overpass near interstate 80 short li after 5:00 this morning. investigators say an officer on patrol hit a man who decide at the scene. the driver took off. investigators asking anybody who might have seen what happened please give them a call. interstate 80 there westbound university avenue was just reopened following the police investigation. a blood drive is happening right now at san francisco international airport to replenish after the asiana crash. among the people there, a girl scout who wanted to help in her own special way. matt keller is live at sfo. i remember last friday when she made a huge effort to help the chinese students in that crash. >> reporter: yes, and that effort paid off today as she and many others are here in terminal 3 arrivals to help the victims in the crash by giving blood. giving seems to be a family

philosophy for their family. this morning they drove in rush hour traffic to help the victims of asiana airlines flight 214. >> it kind of hits home. it could happen to anybody. >> reporter: while he gave blood, his daughter tried to turn disappointment this into a good deed. friday she took a basket full of candy and trick genkets to the . >> i felt so bad for her. >> reporter: but instead of giving up, she found a different way to help the young victims. >> even though i can't give to them, i'm giving it to the blood drive to help them. >> reporter: after the crash, many people called sfo asking how they could help. this is what they came up with. a way to replenish the blood bank here in the bay area after 182 people were taken to local hospitals. san francisco police sergeant bobby chung wasn't working but

is still finding a way to give back. >> anyway we can help out, we're willing to. >> reporter: so far 47 people have given blood. the blood drive runs through 2:00 this afternoon. matt keller, abc 7. >> so happy she found a way to help out. autopsy results are still pending for the third victim of the crash. the 15-year-old died friday after a week being rescued. it also killed two of her classmates. and more than a week after the crash, the wreckage still sits at sfo. we wrought to you live friday morning. the fuselage being sloely moved from the tarmac. the ntsb has taken what its needed for its investigation back to washington, d.c. and turned the rest of the wreckage over to the airport. asiana airlines has two weeks to

remove. there was an early morning fire at a massive apartment complex. it broke out at bridge point. the call came in shortly after 1:00 in the morning forcing nearly 100 people out of their beds in the middle of the night. investigators believe the fire started in a dryer vent. most recesidents are now back inside. new this morning, a san francisco firefighter had to be taken to the hospital after this fire. dramatic images taken by a neighbor as the fire broke out about 6:30 this morning near webster. it took about an hour to put it out. a second person had minor injuries and wtreated at the scene. next, what killed glee star cory monteith? the latest into the

could nadian authorities are performen an autopsy on cory monteith. he was found dead on saturday. mondteith has been this rehab,

but his death has not officially been tied to drugs or alcohol. investigators are interviewing his friends to try to piece together the final hours of his life. the journalist who first reported top secret information leaked by snowden says the former nsa contractor possesses damaging information about the u.s. government. snowden has been on the run since he revealed a secret program that spied on americans. the guardian newspaper journalist says 30-year-old snowden has thousands of documents showing how the nsa is built. the journalist doesn't think they pose a risk to national security, but says they could be harmful to the government's reputation. he said snowden insisted those details stay classified. check on the weather november. mike is up on the roof. >> up on the roof from the broadcast center. good morning to you heyou you. the gray sky is keeping temperatures down, but not all

it's back to the bargaining table today for both sides in the b.a.r.t. contract talks. they met face to face for the first time friday sichnce the fr day strike ended. they say they have made progress on safety issues but are far apart on pay and benefits. workers will walk off the job august 4 unless they have an agreement. apple is investigating an incident in china in which a woman was electrocuted while answering a call on an iphone 5. according to chinese media reports urthe 23-year-old was found dead holding her iphone 5 with burns to her hands and feet. the phone was plugged in to charge. apple says it is deeply saddened by the incident and will investigate. well, it is official, jen any mccarthy will be a new permanent co-host on the view starting in accepts.

barbara walters who created the talk show made the announcement this morning. mccarthy will join "the view" as it undergoing a lot of changes. walters is retiring next year. there is a newly minted millionaire somewhere in the bay area. someone matched five the six numbers during saturday night's power balm drawing. the wins ticket was sold at cable car wine on clement street. the winning numbers are 2, 8, 22, 35, 37, and power ball number is 6. the ticket sold in san francisco is worth a cool $2.6 million. >> so we want them to call us. >> and we want to be their relative. >> congratulations. all right. mike is up on the roof. >> it's kind of cool up here. always cloudy. i see some drizzle flying through the air. so this air mass is locked in.

but i think the rest of us will start seeing sunshine pretty quickly here over the next hour, hour and a half. let's take a look at live doppler. you can see the cloud cover and you don't see any organized areas of wet weather, but definitely stubborn clouds crossing san francisco. so far visibilities are okay. half moon bay 5 miles. everybody else doing okay. but because we've had the cloud cover all morning, we still have the arrival delays about 1 hour and 11 minutes. so check out the flight tracker and it will let you know how long it's taking. we have some breezes that will kick up on the bay. the area you see shaded, san francisco bay and also the delta community from 2:00 to 9:00, those winds 15 to 25 knots. right now we're doing well below that 15 miles per hour concord up to fairfield. gives you an idea just how stout

the sea breeze is. winds up around 31 miles an hour. and here is a look at the visible satellite from about 23,000 miles out. and another view of just how stubborn the clouds are. look at them taking the left hand turn getting caught in the sea breeze and that's why it's hard to shake the clouds the closer you are to the coast. the temperatures will be below average. we're stuck pretty much in the same temperature we had this morning in san francisco from 52 in forest hill to about 55 degrees everywhere else. we're still 50s in richmond, american canyon, san leandro, half moon bay. you see where the sunshine is. santa clara, 67. 68 in pleasanton. look at san jose are doesn't that look nice? if you like sunshine, that's the place to be. it will be sunny just about everywhere except the coast. cooler than average again tomorrow and weekend summer
