runway. >> matt keller joins us now. >> reporter: the press conference here at the coroner's office ended about 40 minutes ago. one of the victims was killed by a vehicle responding to the scene. here's a brand-new picture that we received this morning of one of the victims. the san mateo county coroner said she was hit while on the runway. the cause of death is listed as multiple blunt injuries that are consistent with being run over by a motor vehicle. >> our forensic examination revealed she was still alive

when she sustained those injuries. >> very difficult to hear. there's not enough words to describe how sorry we feel about it. >> reporter: they have offered to meet with her family, but have not received a response. one of the drivers involved did undergo an alcohol and drug test. no word of those results. an internal investigation is still taking place in the fire department. every aspect of that response is currently under review. >> thank you. an east bay community is slowly returning to normal after a sheriff's deputy shot and killed a man. the deputy was off duty when two men tried to hold up a market. high street just reopened to

traffic. >> reporter: we have just learned that a man has checked himself into the hospital with an unexplained gunshot wound. police are going over there to see if he was the second man involved in the robbery of the convenience store last night. if this is the man, that will put this neighborhood at ease. they're very on edge here. neighbors say the burst of gunfire was very loud. there was no question that something was terribly wrong. >> when i came outside, there was a guy standing over somebody else holding a gun and the guy on the ground was not moving. >> the man was an off duty sheriff's deputy. he was shopping when two armed men came in and tried to rob the store. >> he ended up shooting and

killing one of the armed suspects. the second suspect fled on foot. it is possible that he was also shot. >> i'm just sorry for the people that own the store and run it. they are very nice friendly people. >> reporter: this is the second time the store has been robbed in a week. police don't know if the same men committed both robberies. loyal customers raced to the store to check on the owners. >> we know these people. they know my kids. i hope they're okay. >> reporter: the two people that were working last night are okay. police say it will take some time before they determine if this was the justified shooting. >> at first glance, if the deputy didn't save someone's life, he could have saved someone from getting seriously injured.

>> i hope it acts as some kind of deterrent. twice in one week, it is very frightening. >> reporter: the sheriff's deputy is a 20-year veteran. his office say he is a very capable officer. he will be on paid administrative leave during the investigation. breaking news right now out of texas. a shocking discovery in a houston men. 12 men have been found locked up in a room with the door nailed shut. three were in such bad condition. they couldn't walk. four women were found in the home. they appear to have special needs. the men appeared to be homeless and may have been forced to turn over the social security checks.

a tearful vigil was held last night. there was also a moment of conflict when some protesters showed up planning to march. we caught it on video. the evening was about mourning the victim. friends and neighbors came together in the diamond district where she was killed. >> it's senseless to kill a young baby. >> she was sleeping at a friend's house wednesday night. she was killed when she answered the front door. her 7-year-old friend and the grandmother were also shot. a crime lab technician is scheduled to be sentenced after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor of cocaine possession in march. she took small amounts of

cocaine from the lab. both trials ended in hung juries. she worked for 29 years in the crime lab before resigning in 2009. form eer county supervisor scheduled for court today. a plea deal was reached. he pled guilty to 12 criminal counts for lying about campaign financing and gambling with public funds. the judge must decide if the plea agreement stands. san francisco supervisors are considering measures to cutdown on bike thefts. there's a special hearing that took place at city hall last

new video this morning. shocking video of a new mexico woman in the middle of a severe diabetic attack. she suffered that attack while driving. she crashed into the back of a truck and could not open her door. deputies arrived believing she was drunk, so they yanked her out of the car and threw her on the ground. she was left there for more than a minute. paramedics arrived and treated the diabetic episode. the sheriffs say they are reviewing that incident. detroit lawmakers are expected to be in the court next week to work out the city's bankruptcy filing. detroit is the largest american city ever to file for bankruptcy.

there's concern that hundreds of city workers could be laid off and city services cut. this is concord. you can see all the crews down there. there's a gas leak right now. it's in the area of concord avenue and mer rid yan park boulevard. there may be some evacuations right now. fire not confirming that at the moment. this is a two block radius around that gas leak leaking from a pipe in the street. you can get the latest breaking news from us. royal watchers everywhere are playing the waiting game. is the duchess of cambridge past her due date?

take a look at surveillance video of a man in italy attacking a row of slot machines. he lost $6,500 to the one armed bandits. he went home, got an ax, and took his frustration out on machines. then he went outside and calmly waited for police to arrive. he was sentenced to six months. oh, my goodness. he was just released. >> did he really give a thumbs up? >> it's hard to tell there. >> did he feel better about destroying all those machines? >> i guess. >> i don't know understand those italians. such passive aggressiveness. i don't get that. >> he's italian, just to clear that up. let's talk about the weekend warmup. >> make sure you have sunscreen
