good morning, thanks for joining us. it's 8:00 a.m. i'm katie marzullo. we'll start with a quick look at the weather. here a frances dinglasan in for lisa argen this morning. good morning. show you this beautiful live shot from the east bay hills. still showing low clouds seeping in over the hills and some of the fog making out from the coast to the bay. things will change and we'll see a lot more sunshine. temperatures coming up a few degrees. we're starting off the morning with fog and low clouds. temperatures are in the 50s to near 60 degrees. this afternoon hot numbers inland. there is something for everybody. 60s along the coast to near hundred. mild at the beach and pretty

comfortable around the bay. then tonight the clouds return, fog will be back, temperatures will drop into the mid-50s to low 80s inland. i have the complete seven-day forecast coming up with a cooldown. >> katie: breaking news, long time white house journalist helen thomas has died. known as pioneer for women in journalism she fiercely questioned ten presidents over half a century. she was the first woman admitted to the press corps club. a friend of thomas says she had been ill for long time and had just come home from the hospital on thursday. thomas was 92 years old. more rallies are scheduled to in a second weekend of protests over the george zimmerman verdict. we have a live look from miami, florida where a rally is under way. earlier trayvon martin's parents spoke to the crowd.

more than a hundred are being held across today. one begins at 9:00 a.m. at san francisco federal building on 7th street. another rally will be held at noon on clay street in oakland at noon. hundred people marched peacefully yesterday. >> hundred b hundred people seamed at fruitvale bart station for a candlelight vigil. they urged everyone to be remain nonviolent. >> this is peaceful vigil and honoring ceremony for trayvon martin. >> mixed among the group was oakland mayor. most of the people arrived here by foot as part of a four mile march through the city that started at the plaza earlier in the evening. a number of organizations each with a different focus came together for the event. some were something out for gun violence and some

addressed what happened at an earlier event. >> it's. >> he asked fellow black men to be part of the coalition to try to show different image of activism. >> it's not how about the movement or rowdiness. we want to show the world that we could be professionals. >> his group planned on checking with downtown businesses that had been boarded up. the other group, a large contingent of oakland police. >> all hands on deck and everybody is here. >> a fleet of white advance was used to mobilize officers ahead. dozens of police trailed the group as they weaved through oakland. sergio quintana, "abc 7 news." >> other rallies scheduled at san jose city hall and also in vallejo.

>> despite the hope for peaceful protests, some businesses in downtown oakland aren't any chances. bank of america had their windows boarded up and tribune building took precautions. >> president obama talked at length yesterday about the trayvon martin shooting. he spoke from the heart why there is so much anger. >> african-american community is looking at this issue through a set of experiences and a history. there are very few african-american men in this country who haven't had the experience of being followed followed in a shopping store. if a white male teen was involved in the same kind of scenario, from top to bottom, both the outcome and the aftermath might have been

different. trayvon martin could have been me 35 years ago. >> katie: this is looking at a young barack obama next to trayvon martin. martin's parents say they are honored the president can see himself in trayvon and identify with him. >> katie: breaking news out of san jose they are investigating a deadly accident on highway 101. it happened on southbound 101 at bernal road exit. that exit was closed for several hours while police investigated but it has since reopened. no word on what caused the deadly accident. >> a motorcyclist is dead this morning after being hit by two cars in san jose. witnesses tell police it looked like two cars were racing on south wright road when they crashed and hit the motorcyclist. the cars ended up in front yards near mount vista drive. several streets were shut down while police investigated. >> so far no one has come

forward with any substantial leads for the search for the killer of an 8-year-old girl who was shot to death on wednesday night. alan wang has more. >> reporter: the mother described her as a girl who loved to talk. her nickname was lady bug. >> i'm so sad. >> she got the bad news about her daughter while on vacation. she was shot while at a sleepover. three others were all wounded. someone fired ten shots into it. >> i wish she was here right now so i could like hold her and give her one last hug and a kiss, that i love her. >> reward money for information leagued to an arrest has been increased to

$35,000 and police say they are relying heavily on the community. >> what investigators are looking for, they believe there a vehicle associated with the shooter or shooters or suspects who may have traveled together. >> i can't believe she is the 34th homicide in oakland and no one has come forward to tell me anything. they didn't see anyone. >> the mother says she spent six months researching a safe place to live but it didn't stop the senseless crime. >> katie: today family members of a missing toddler will go door to door. she was reported missing ten days ago. he says he left her in an suv outside a liquor store. when he came out she was gone. it will start 10:00 this morning handing out flyers at homes and businesses.

san francisco fire department officials are admitting one of their vehicles ran over and killed a passenger on on asiana flight. san mateo coroner has confirmed the 16-year-old girl died after being hit on the runway by emergency fire vehicle. she is seen neither home video was found under a foot of fire fighting foam. she was still alive when she was run over. >> this is very difficult news for us. we are heart broken. we're in the business of saving lives, many lives were saved on july 6th. >> they issued a statement, we urge the involved parties of the u.s. side to deal properly with the aftermath of her death. investigate and affix responsibility for this tragic accident. flight 214 requested a go-around before landing safely yesterday. flight was about half a mile

from the runway when it took a second run. there is no explanation for it but they say it can happen for a variety of reasons. >> two homes were damaged by a fire last night. fire crews responded to several calls just before 6:30 and when they got there, they saw a gas meter had broken off and was leaking gas feeding both of fires. fires were controlled in about 40 minutes. >> oakland police arrested a man who they say led them on a chase, carrying man carrying a stroller, a baby and gun. the man took his baby at gunpoint from his girlfriend who is the mother. they chased him down the street until police cornered him. they say he refused to give up the baby girl. they tased him and the baby was not hurt.

>> one has been arrested on charges of assaulting his patients. he was taken into custody yesterday and booked ona sexual battery charge. police say the assaults happened at his office on east hamilton avenue. investigators warrant to know if any other patients were touched inappropriately. >> the doctor who was arrested in this case has been in a business for a number of years and seen numerous patients. based on what happened, we're trying to determine if there any other potential victims in this case. a woman who answered the phone at the office said she had no comment on the case. >> new problems for the bay bridge, this time on the western span. we have a live look at the bridge on this cloudy morning. caltrans says it needs to replace 96 giant shock absorbers because they were

worn out twice as fast as inspected. they were replaced in 2004 and expected to last for 20 years. $13 million fix for the problem will come from bridge tolls. that a decent indicator of what is happening outside. >> it's pretty gray out there. fog is socked in live shot of golden gate bridge. 31 minute arrival flight delays due to low clouds. i'll have numbers and tell you about a cooldown coming up shortly. >> also next, a discretionary rollercoaster accident. what witnesses say just happened before that. and outrage over the catholic chur

details are still coming in about a woman that foal her death in texas in front of her son. it happened yesterday evening on the texas giant rollercoaster. several witnesses say they asked employees she was properly restrained. the woman behind the line the safely bell released and she tumbled off. it's closed now for investigation. neighbors in fremont are upset that a new housing tract is about to be built on a portion of 200-year-old cemetery. a man says he has proof there are still bodies there at the old cemetery. >> am totally sure that. i bet my house, my car, not

my family. >> he was betting there are still bodies buried under a housing development that was part of the cemetery in fremont. he lives next to the burial grounds says he watched as 251 graves were dug up to make room for the development in 2007. >> they dug up the bodies and then they stopped. they didn't dig up any bodies in the east. >> a map where the bodies were removed from the cemetery and he claims there are still caskets buried in the area. construction has begun. he has made his findings public on facebook and found support from other neighbors who want to stop the homes from being built. one heard about the plans and went to check his father's grave. >> i wanted to make sure they stay here. >> the oldest headstone we found dates back to 1887.

the church moved some 240 remains into one gravesite. >> he is buried up on the hill with a beautiful view. he was dug up and crammed into a mass grave. that is just disgusting. >> he doesn't believe anyone who wants to live in a home where there is possibly buried under ground. he has written to the developer asking them to shelve their plans and has not heard back. "abc 7 news" called and awaiting comment. the money will go to a new church and in any other ri re mains are found they will rebury them properly. developing news, a second community is preparing for a possible evacuation order as a massive fire in the mountains continues to burn. fire has spread to more than 27,000 acres in riverside county and has forced the

evacuation of a small community. they are worried the fire could grow larger because there are thunderstorms in the forecast. the fire broke out monday and destroyed dozen structures since then. more than $3 firefighters are on the ground fighting the flames. fire is now 25% contained. a fire near the grapevine section of interstate 5 in kern county has grown to 730 acres. officials have issued an evacuation order for two dozen homes. chp says big rig may have sparked that fire. san jose music in the park is back returning last night after taking a year off. ♪ ♪ >> ra grammy award band head lined at the park. it was cancelled last year

showing you the gray skies once again as we look out towards the bay. things are changing. in san francisco, it's 53 degrees, currently 56 in oakland. 58 in san jose. in fact, let me show you san jose where we are starting to see partly sunny conditions. you see some of the shadows on the street from the trees. many more blue skies later on this afternoon. in santa rosa, it's still been foggy all morning with visibility near half a mile. 52 for you there. 56 in napa and 55 in novato. here is another gorgeous shot. east bay hills camera. you notice the clouds is a seeping over the hills, starting to slow down a bit. it wasn't as strong a flow as it was early this morning. that is an indication of a thing starting to change. we have some of the inland valleys and we're going to see that. later on this morning, more sunshine and that means hot

temperatures inland and mild at the coast and then a gradual cooling starting tomorrow continuing into tuesday. satellite image shows the center of hot air mass is moving closer. that is going to warm numbers up in the inland and coastal numbers will stay fairly steady throughout the week. heading to the blues festival in san jose, lots of sunshine and 74 in santa cruz and nice day to head to the beach there. 82 in mountain view. 60 in pacifica. partly cloudy conditions the closer you are to the coast. and look for a wide range of numbers in the north bay from 60s at the coast to 104 in ukiah and upper 80s sonoma and napa. very comfortable in the east bay. 79 in castro valley and it's going to heat up to near

hundred in antioch. clear in concord, 93 later on today. i want to show you the highs today around the state because it's going to get hot up in chico. we're seeing some of the moisture bringing partly cloudy conditions to los angeles, 78 degrees and strong rip currents there. seven-day forecast, we've got hot temperatures inland, nice around the bay and cooler and mild at the coast. we're going did dip down a few degrees on sunday, increasing high and low clouds on monday. tuesday, a little bit cloudy again and cooler and slowly ramping back up wednesday and thursday. we'll let you know how it will be in your community. keep track of bay area weather at twitter at live doppler 7-hd. up next, a highway prank that has drivers doing a double take.

welcome back everyone. so glad you are with us. it's 8:30 and we want to start off with a quick look at the weather. here is frances dinglasan. good morning everyone. sunshine inland areas, like concord where it's 59 degrees right now. 66 in antioch. still cloudy at the coast. 53 in san francisco and cloudy in santa rosa at 52. more clouds and fog in watsonville and monterey at 54 degrees. we'll see the sunshine although we're socked in right now with the live shot of golden gate bridge. you will see sunshine later on today. by the late morning hours along the coast you see it earlier for inland communities. that is where temperatures are going to warm up to near

hundred degrees today. so a few degrees warmer than yesterday. around the bay, look for low 70s to low 80s, warm and comfortable, if you like it cool head to the coast. that is where temperatures are going to hover in the 60s throughout the week. there are changes and i'll have those details coming up. >> katie: more than a hundred rallies are planned today for a second weekend of protests over the george zimmerman verdict. in the bay area, rallies will be held at the san francisco federal building, oakland's federal building, jesse bethel high school in vallejo and san jose city hall. it comes after hundred people held a candlelight vigil held a moderate to the fruit vale bart station. yesterday's rally was peaceful. your license plate may be getting a new look. there is a poll to put high-tech plates on

california cars. some imagine a digital screen. others say not so fast. here a capital correspondent nannette miranda with the story. >> it's so advanced with gps, back up cameras and other high-tech extras. >> the one thing on the car that is still 20th century is the license plate which is stamped metal. we think it can be done more efficiently and at a better cost potentially through digital technology. >> dmv created a pilot program starting up to 160,000 fleet vehicles. it has digital license plate on a small screen. the demonstration on youtube showed what one might look for a motorcycle. it would have wireless capability and dmv can update your registration and maybe even find a stolen car.

about 35 minutes. it's currently 54 in santa rosa. it's been foggy this morning and 56 in napa. livermore, 63 degrees. we're seeing some 60s in some of the inland areas where we're seeing some sunshine. you'll find it here in san jose as we look toward the downtown area. a foggy start at the coast and in in valleys. hot inland and mild temperatures at the coast and gradual cooling starting tomorrow, staying with us into tuesday. this area of hot air is moving towards the bay area. that is going to bring our temperatures by just a few degrees except along the coast. forecast model shows it playing out by about 10:00. it's pulled back and we're seeing a lot of sunny skies, lunchtime, lot of festivals
