> good morning and thanks for joining us. i'm matt keller, in for carolyn tyler. let's start with a quick first look at the weather forecast. here's frances dinglasan, in nor lisa argen. good morning, francis. >> hi, matt. good morning, everyone. take a look at temperatures now u can tell where ice sunnier. concord 64. we are seeing 60s and sunshine, as well, in san jose. definitely cloudy and cool. near the coast. only 53 san francisco and 54 half moon bay. we are starting off with temperatures in the 50s and low 6os with some fog along the coast burks we will see a mild afternoon ahead with a lot of sunshine for most everyone except along the coast. that's where we will see

temperatures in the upper 50s. then you will notice it is going to be a few degrees cooler around the bay and some of the inland locations up to the mid-90s today instead of 100. this evening the clouds and fog will make its way back into the bay area and dinnertime we will be dropping down into the upper 70s foreign land communities. we have a cooling trend and i'll tell you more about that in my next report. matt. >> thanks, man sis. about 2500 people are expected today for the 27th annual a.i.d.s. walk. kira klapper is joining us live. we are getting close to the start of the walk, kira? >> we sure are, matt. it is getting really exciting out here. they just turned on some music. runners are already here -- walkers, i should say. as you said, you said there are 25,000 people expected to. it is getting really exciting here. and if we swing around behind

several hours while police investigated. no word yet on what caused the crash. developing news in san francisco. one person is dead and a second seriously injured after a gun battle in the city's tenderloin neighborhood. it happened in the area near larkin street. when officers arrived on the scene, several people were shooting at one another on the street. one person was hit and died at the scene. police say a lot of people were in the area at the time of the shooting. >> whatever these people had between them, obviously they had decided to settle it and they didn't really care who was around. >> the person who died is not believed to be an innocent bystander. one person was taken into custody. the injured person was taken to sf general. the shooting remains under investigation. in other developing news, a champion sprint car driver has been hospitalized with major roll-over crash at the ant job -- antioch speedway.

it happened about 9:00 last night. they were about midway through the main event and a driver from new zealand crashed with another vehicle. >> going down the front stretch and sometimes stuff like that happens, you make contact. we see it a lot. him and other car got together. it sent hem upside-down down the front straightaway and he ended up landing upside down. it took crews about 40 minutes to free murphy. he was taken to the medical center. many people are calling for changes this morning in the wake of the shooting death of florida teen trayvon martin. thousands of people took to the streets yesterday for rallies held all across the country and right here in the bay area. we have more from the rallies in oakland. about 50 people gathered for a candlelight vigil at sundown honoring trayvon martin and other victims of gun violence. this is at lake merritt. >> until all the young people are safe, none of us are safe. >> this was the most subdued group, but the day started with a loud demonstration at the federal building in oakland. >> peace on the streets! peace on the streets!

>> mayor jean quan made an appearance at that event. she said the police are exercise ago new strategy. >> even the way they have been in the demonstrations lately. you can see we have them out walking with the demonstrators. >> and there was a visible police presence throughout the day. a different group made up of bicycle demonstrators took to the streets and the police were always close behind. about 100 people road through the city on a mission to raise awareness in an unconventional way. i'm riding because i think justice that is not been served. i don't think we know about unity in this town. >> the bicyclists enjoyed a traffic-free and police escorted ride in front of city hall. they continued on until west oakland. police say one demonstrator was arrested with several outstanding warrants, but that

was before any protests started. otherwise no other arrests were made. in oakland, abc7 news. rallies were held all across the nation yesterday, calling for justice for trayvon martin. our reporter has that part of the story. >> the same message rang out in 100 cities across the country. >> the fight must go on! >> it's a fight for justice for trayvon martin. it was one week ago a jury found the 17-year-old killer, george zimmerman, not guilty. >> zimmerman brought a gun to an unarmed battle. >> martin supporters want the department of justice to file criminal civil rights charges against george zimmerman. that's why so many rallied in front of the federal building in san francisco. >> let's move forward now to assure we have justice certainly for young, black men. >> while in san francisco, house minority leader nancy pelosi

admitted even she was surprised by the jury's decision. >> i was one devastated by the verdict. i just didn't understand it. it helped channelize our attitudes in a very constructive and effective way. >> pelosi calling on local governments to review their racial profiling attitudes, as well as the "stand your ground" law. meanwhile, many of americans are having an honest conversation about what it's like to be african-american in this country, including the president. >> trayvon martin could have been me 35 years ago. >> i fear for myself because i'm a youth just like him, a black youth, so it could easily happen to me, just like it happened to him. >> hundreds of californians plan to head south to rally in anaheim today. abc7 news. questions are being asked about whether the limo driver involved in a deadly fire at the san mateo bridge was too distracted to react quickly when the fire broke out.

our media partner, the san jose mercury news, reports the limo drive, mr. brown, was on his cell phone fighting with his estranged wife before the fire started. in an interview, brown's wife said he had the music turned up loudly so the limo's passengers couldn't hear them arguing. five people died back in may. >> east palo alto police are investigating the shooting death of a 30-year-old man. police responded to a shots fired call yesterday afternoon. they found a man a few blocks from his home on larkspur avenue. rodriguez had been shot several times. a mysterious substance forced the evacuation of a store in san mateo last night. firefighters were called to the shoe store at hillside mall last night, a shoe store. customers described hearing a small explosion and started suffering from irritated eyes and throws. >> we checked the video cameras. and observed what we could from there. and there were some areas not covered. unfortunately that was the area that people describe where this sound that they heard occurred

and we were unable to get any video feed in that area. >> 17 people reported having symptoms. five were treated by paramedics. fire officials speculate it may have been mace or pepper spray discharged. we have new video of police chasing a man who stole a transit bus. 29-year-old man stealing a transit bus. the man stole the bus friday morning from a transbay terminal. the man drove 100 miles before the officers put down road spikes to flatten the bus tires in oakdale. moss is in jail facing charges of reckless driving and grand theft. he already had a $20,000 warrant for his arrest for stealing a car. >> we have a lot of people heading to the aids walk at golden gate park. >> yeah, but it's perfect for walking. it will heat up. i will tell you how warm it will be in your neighborhood. here's a live view of the gray

>> cooler temperatures are helping firefighters make progress against a wildfire burning in southern california. the fire has burned 42 square miles outside idyll wild outside palm springs. the fire is 49% contained but thunderstorms expected to hit today could be a threat to the progress. mandatory evacuations remain in place for about 6,000 people. the fire has destroyed six homes and more than a dozen other buildings. detroit just became the largest city in u.s. history to file for bankruptcy. now there are questions this morning in the city can rebound after years of neglect. on "this week" the toyota mayor bing spoke with george stephanopoulos about the decision to file bankruptcy. the mayor said he's confident the city will also be able to bounce back. >> detroiters are a very, very resilient people. we have, you know, when we had chrysler and general motors that

the federal government helped in their bankruptcy, they came back and they are doing well. detroit is a very iconic city worldwide, and our people will fight for this and we will come back. >> bing said the city has great support from the obama administration but has not yet requested a federal bailout. >> housing activists demanded stop the foreclosures right outside the home of the ceo of wells fargo. >> the alliance of californians for community empowerment organized yesterday's rally in san francisco. protest organizers believe wells fargo could limit the foreclosures by reducing the principal many borrowers owe. wells fargo issued a statement our work to help people pay balance have left to a lower foreclosure rate the last year. although the economy is recovering, it's little

consolation for those who have looked for a job and come up empty-handed. abc7 news reporter jonathan bloom has a steer of a man who came back from the brink. despair by creating his own job. now he's doing that for others. >> tech shop is place inventors and crafts people come to learn new skills and use few tools. inside you find this man working on a laser cutter and outside a man is sleeping on the pavement next to the shopping cart. but it turns out they have something in common. >> december 1, 2011 was the first night i spent in a homeless shelter. >> he was a out of work person who went into a spin but he heard two talking about tech shop. >> but he heard two of the shelter mates talking about tech shop. one brought back a flyer for it. >> it so happened they had a christmas special with the exact amount of money i had on me so i bought a one month membership that came with two classes, took the two classes and the rest is history. >> he finds out he has a knack for laser cutting. he started out making parts for

other people's projects, then he began teaching classes on it. now he has his own laser cut are -- cutter and makes a living doing small scale manufacturing. >> i've done pretty well the last year and a half. >> he didn't want to stop there. that's when he was on general assistance. he used to pass by this empty lot when he first started. and he thought this would be a great place to start something to help other people like him. >> one thing i noticed inside the shelter is an abundance of. potential. >> so he set out to create what he called the learning shelter. >> all the resources you need to live, because the resources a person would need to learn so kind of like a tech shop and homeless shelter worked together. >> he had others on board who never new mark was homeless until his story was featured. >> makes what he's doing even more impressive than before. >> it was an interview that almost didn't happen. >> i never, of thought i would tell anybody where i had been. i thought it would be my secret the rest of my life.

coming out of it i realized if i kept it a secret >> wasn't going to be able to help people. >> in san francisco, abc7 news. new details about a reward for information identifying the person who left out poisoned meatballs throughout san francisco. officials with the animal legal defense fund says the reward now stands at $5,000. the tainted meatballs were found in the diamond heights and twin peaks neighborhood. police believe the strychnine meatballs were left out to kill dogs. a dachshund who ate one of the meatballs died earlier this month. federal officials will no longer allow distressed peregrines to be rescued from bridges. a sign were their rebound from extinction. they often nest on at all, urban structures to make it easier to hunt their food. about 2,000 live in california, compared to just 10 forty years ago or 10 four years ago when they were placed on the endangered species list. >> a college in northeast ohio faces the task of rebuilding after a tornado severely damaged its gymnasium. see the twister's aftermath in

this college near cleveland. 100 miles an hour winds when it hit yesterday morning. the building collapse and other buildings also were damaged. the college president said she's grateful no one was hurt. the college remains closed while all the damage is assessed. >> a stage collapsed in georgia. a sudden downpour caused the tarp to come plummeting down on the band. of the five people injured, four were taken to the hospital. they have all since been treated and released. we have some extreme weather across the country, but here things relatively calm. a little fog this morning. >> a little fog, low clouds. winds layth. we will see an afternoon sea breeze but that's also normal for this time of the year. going to live doppler 7hd around the bay area, clouds coming in from the coast, spell into the bay. but already clear inland and in parts of the south bay.

still we will take you to a live view from the east bay hills. we are looking south. you can kind of see that the clouds are not really making their way inland right now. they are very slowly creeping inland but we will start to see them recede back to the coast by lunchtime. temperatures right now in san francisco 55. 58 in oakland and 63 in mountain view. 60 in san jose where we see some blue skies. we will see it warm up nicely today, as well. but there is going to be a slight cooling trend in store for us today and tomorrow. in santa rosa 55 right now. napa 58. so here's another look at that deeper marine layer. pretty much covered over or covering the golden gate bridge. you can barely see it. you can see across the span, just not the towers right now. this is what you can expect for today. low clouds, patchy fog this morning and the cloudier it will

be as you head to the coast. so that's where the clouds are going to stick around all day. cooler today and tomorrow. that's the plan. here's a look at the pacific satellite image. we have this area of high pressure circulating clockwise. an area of low pressure circulating counter clockwise. for tomorrow we will see increasing clouds from the south and also from the west. temperatures will be coming down a bit, as well. the forecast model shows the clouds pulling back by late morning lunchtime. most of us under sunny condition except along the coast. parts of the peninsula will see partly cloudy conditions. then this afternoon we will notice the clouds push back in again into the bay. that's why numbers are going to be a little bit cooler compared to yesterday. so 80 in san jose. 78 in santa clara. 77 in sunnyvale. look for upper 70s in redwood city and 58 in pacifica. san francisco downtown near 65 degrees with some cloudy

conditions, as well. 70s and some 80s in the north bay. 77 in sonoma. 82 in calistoga. very comfortable and mild in the east bay. upper 60s for you in richmond and berkeley to upper 70s as you head farther south to fremont, 77. look for 80s and some 90s in the interior valleys. 92 in antioch. 85 in san ramon. so if you are one of the folks heading to the golden gate park today, this is what you need to have in mind. we have the clouds today, this morning and even by late morning it it will be partially sunny. some breaks this afternoon. temperatures hovering in the low 60s but you will still need to bring a jacket with you. it's san francisco, after all. here's a look at the forecast. a little cooler today. temperatures drop tomorrow, as well. we have increasing clouds. we will see mid-80s inland, mid-70s around the bay, and 50s along the coast. we come down a little bit and

>> we are starting this half-hour with a quick look at the weather. here's meteorologist frances dinglasan, in for lisa argen. how are things look out there for sunday, francis? >> they are actually starting to look very mice and sunny foreign land areas. in fact, look at the spread of temperatures already. in san francisco it's cloudy and cool, up to 72 right now in antioch. we are seeing some 60s as well in concord, san ramon and san jose. fog still being reported in monterey where it's 55 degrees and it's going to be cool there throughout the day. a beautiful, live view as we look from emeryville out toward the bay. still gray skies but inland communities will still see warm temperatures today. mid-80s to mid-90s. it will be mild around the bay. upper 60s to upper 70s.

a lot of fun to be had, but not to be forgotten is the very good reason we are all out here today. we hope to see some of you here, as well. reporting live at the golden gate park, abc7 news. >> thank you, kira. a special presentation took place yesterday at the national a.i.d.s. memorial grove in san francisco's golden gate park. local lawmaker nancy pelosi was the driving force behind the memorial 22 years ago. she received a stone in the monument and a path named for her. she said it was the work of this memorial that directly led to the viking down of the the defense of marriage act. i truly believe it was a strong factor in changing people's attitudes towards gender equality in our country. >> pelosi said she's wishing for the day when aids will become a thing of the past.

>> this morning we are learning new details about the deadly roller coaster accident in texas. friday a mother fell to her death with her family looking on. it's a ride known as the texas giant. we have the story. >> this morning at six flags over texas the crowds are back. but the gates to the star roller coaster, the 14-story texas giant, still shut. someone left flowers near the spot where friday a rider was killed. her family tells our dallas affiliate she is rosie esparsa of dallas, supposedly making her very first visit to the dark. >> she went in the air and came down, i don't know if she had a seizure or what but she fell out of the cart and just fell out of the sky. >> eyewitnesses say her family was riding with her. her son, just one car away. >> he tried to go down there but they wouldn't let him and he's like let me down there, i need to go down there and find my mom. >> a witness tells the dallas

morning news the mom appeared concerned before the ride her safety harness was not secure, but investigators have not confirmed that and six flags said it would be a disservice to her family to speculate. it is not the first accident with the ride. there was one time people were left in the sky for an hour. but one study found when it comes to emergency room visits, twice as many people are injured on the carrousal compared to roller coasters. for now the mystery of how a day at the amusement park turned so deadly is still unsolved. abc news, >>s dallas. happening today, the east bay will celebrate international nelson mandela day. it's at a theater in berkeley. it comes on the heels of

mandela's 95th birthday, which was last week. he has been hospitalized since june 8th with a reoccurring lung infection and remains in critical, but stable condition. today a los angeles church will finish making care packages for the victims of asiiana flight 214. they will send the academiages to 35 families in china. two teen girls were killed in the crash who planned to spend their summer with a church as part of an exchange program. the church plans to send the packages and plaques to their girls' schools in china. it's hard to remember there was once a time many in great britain viewed the family as more of a royal pain. what changed? why the popularity of the royals has been soaring for more than 15 years. >> the royal baby is more than an heir to the thrown. royal watchers say it's the

embody mientkiewicz of a renewed love affair with the royal family. >> obvious effect of the baby will be to boost the popularity of the royal family to untold heights. >> just to give you an idea how popular the royal family has become in england the last few years, check out this toy store in the uk. you have the expectant parents to be, proud grandpa charles and, of course, uncle harry. >> souvenir shops further substantiate the growth in royal popularity. but two decades ago it was an entirely different story. brits weren't in love with their royals. in the wake of broken marriages, toe sucking scandals and princess diana's death, they were disillusioned. historians credit diana's children for turning it around, working to emulate their mother's style and marrying in grand romantic style. >> now i think people can see

>> ever since food trucks exploded in san francisco, there's been some competition with brick and mortar restaurants. restaurants figure if you can't beat them, join them. >> it doesn't look that different than a typical food truck but the orange and white bus is bringing the restaurant scene to the streets. >> with chips? how's my chips? >> i got the kiwi salad. >> the restaurants take turns offering food.

this woman was thrilled she got. to order from this shanghai dumpling king. >> i used to live by there so when i saw that they would bring it here for lunch, i thought that was amazing. palo alto based e-club came up with the idea. so far they have 40 restaurants participating. >> so we have a team of people who scour the city, who know what is already good and who find the undiscovered things that people need to know about. >> the service has to be ordered online. awning trays are made ahead of time at the restaurant and kept in warming items until handed out. the kitchen owner dennis linn said it happened to the downtown lunch business the same way food trucks have successfully done. >> the financial district asked me to deliver and i have no way to do that, so this is a good way to do it right now.

mountain view, where there's been more sunshine at 63 degrees, 54 in half moon bay. here is that marine layer. you see the low clouds and the fog over the golden gate bridge. you can't see the towers right now. and it's going to stay cloudy at the coast today. santa rosa 57. novato 59. there's been a lot of sunshine this morning in livermore already at 64 degrees. we are looking for exploratorium camera and it's still pretty gray out there. but things will change this afternoon. here's the story for today. we have the low clouds, patchy fog for the morning. mostly sunny by this afternoon with the exception of coastal areas. and cooler today and tomorrow. you will notice temperatures coming down a few degrees each day. the pacific satellite image, this area of high pressure and this hot air with the air circulating clockwise, we also have cool air over the pacific. and this is circulating

counterclockwise. we will see increasing clouds electricity south and also from the west, bringing us a cooling trend that continues into tomorrow and even a little bit on tuesday. the forecast model shows the fog pulling back by lunchtime to the coast. partly cloudy conditions along the peninsula. and then by this afternoon mostly sunny around the bay, but then you will notice the clouds will mush back in again later on this afternoon and into this evening. here's a look at highs for today. in san jose still pretty comfortable at 80 degrees. plenty of sunshine in santa clara at 78. upper 70s the lower part of the peninsula. half moon bay only at 59 today. downtown san francisco near 65 degrees but cooler. sunset district only at 62. novato 78 degrees. we will see some upper 80s and even somed 0 in clear lake, 99 but mainly upper 70s in sonoma and vallejo. look for upper 60s and 70s in the east bay, 68 in richmond

and warmer down to fremont, 77 degrees. look for numbers to come down a little bit in the interior valleys. 87 in concord and 90 in livermore. so if you are headed to the giants game, it's always good to bring a jacket because temperatures will be near the mid-6 to 0s when the game starts. the sea breeze will tick in in the afternoon and that will make it feel cooler. overnight lows will be fairly mild with extra cloud cover. here's the accuweather seven-day forecast. a little cooler today and notice tomorrow we will drop down a few more degrees, as well. high clouds, low clouds moving in and around the inland areas and bay is where we will see temperatures come down. then partly cloudy on tuesday. full warmup to friday where we will be near normal temperatures again. >> looking pretty nice. thanks, francis. >> in sports, phil mickelson has won the british open. he fired a 66 today to finish
