channing. >> i'm kristen sze. >> royal baby watch, joining us from the newsroom, kyra, there is a royal silence on this right now? >> there is, indeed. last we heard a spokesman said things are progressing as normal with labor. she's at st. mary's hospital. prince william and she snuck through a side entrance. they eluded media last night. she's giving birth in lindo wing, the same place princess diana had both william and harry. kate hoping for a natural childbirth. we learned the royals do not know the sex of the baby. boy or girl, the baby will be third in line for the throne, h hopscotching over prince harry. >> i'm so excited about that. i had to come up for the day.

i hope it's a girl. >> why do you hope it's a girl? >> i'm a girl. i think the idea of having a queen will be brilliant. >> i figure with social media, we'll know about it as soon as they post it. >> for the first time the palace will go with social media. but going with tradition they will take a page from the hospital to buckingham palace. it will be placed on the easel in front of the palace. it's the same easel prince william's birth was announced 31 years ago. as modern day royals, they will use modern day technology, sending an e-mail to announce the birth of kate and william's child. one thing the announcement will likely not include is the baby's name. it is not uncommon for royals to take their time naming their babies, yet queen elizabeth and her husband philip waited a month in the case of naming

new on the pen la, traffic moving slowly on 101 after a fuel leak at men ro park. a crash spilled fuel on north and southbound lanes. chp issued a sig alert and that has been canceled. officials say the dumptruck driver is okay. no word on the driver of the pickup. developing news out of san francisco where police are investigating a home invasion. it happened in the bay view district around midnight. police say two men and a women dressed in all black forced their way into the home. neighbors heard the struggle and called police. one of the suspects jumped out of the window and broke his leg. he a handgun on him. the other two got away. the victim was stabbed but expected to recover. investigating a body found along the san lorenzo river this morning. someone called around 6:00 a.m. officers searched and found the

body of 34 yearly man near so cal and river street. investigators believe he may have overdosed on heroin. officials say the levee area is a magnet for illegal camping, prostitution, drugs and violence. >> we have a group of people disrespectful in their behavior and they are creating a problem and quality of life issue for businesses and residents who want to use the levee for its intended purposes. officials say there are efforts under way to clean up the area and return it to a natural resource. the coast guard is learning more about the captain of a sailboat who led them on a bizarre chase from the bay to the ocean yesterday. investigators hope to soon board that boat that raised their suspicion. abc 7 news reporter is live at the coast guard station. amy. >> reporter: they just told us the man is now charged with federal assault on -- a felony assault on federal law enforcement agent. more charges are expected. investigators say his name is

john mccormick. he's in his 40s or 50s they say. he is in jail. officers say when he boarded their boat he lunged at them. that's when they charged him with assault. there were four officers there. they took him down and cuffed him. they first became suspicious when his sailboat didn't have flags or markings. they say that's unusual. when they tried to stop him, he led them on a cat and mouse chase through the gate. they suspect him of putting out false s.o.s. calls. explaining why they took him. >> it's a big deal, america's cup. any vessel that poses suspicious activity, you never know what's going on. have you a lot of spectators out there. in general the nice boating season, that kind of threat, i think it is a big deal. making false distress calls, again, even if not related, a very big deal because we send out crews.

they could be doing something else. >> investigators plan to do a thorough search of mccormick's boat today. they hope to figure out why he was evading officers. they say he bought this boat in alameda. he gave them two passports, one from new zealand, one from ireland. as they arrested him, they said he did a lot of talking. it took them about an hour to read him his rights. they will be looking into whether he has mental health issues or under the influence of drugs and alcohol. they do hope to release more information about him later today. reporting live, amy holyfield. a suspected firefighter crash on duty may lose his job. the firefighter suggesting firefighter michael quinn be fired even though the investigation is continuing. quinn's lawyer is calling that termination move premature and irresponsible. the firefighter was arrested last month on suspicion of driving under the influence after his fire truck collided

with a motorcyclist. the motorcyclist was seriously injured. they are expected to submit their report to the district attorney's office tomorrow. >> new details at the crash at sfo. they have purchased heat sensing equipment that experts say might have prevented the death of 16-year-old asiana passenger. she was covered with fire retardant foam when hit by a fire rig shortly after asiana crashed. the "san francisco chronicle" reporting the older model vehicle that hit her did not have forward-looking infrared imaging technology that is now required by federal law. other rigs at sfo are equipped with technology. happening now in san francisco, pse&g is fixing a slow gas leak after a construction crew hit a gas lane. experts hope to have the gas line on by this afternoon.

residents smelled a strong order about 8:30 this morning. pse&g said the broken pipe affected only one home in the area. >> highway patrol investigating a head-on collision in the north bay involving a van carrying boy scouts. the van slammed into a pickup that rear-ended another vehicle on highway 20 in potter valley. the 65-year-old driver of the van was killed. his 14-year-old son was flown to children's hospital with major injuries. four other boy scouts were hurt. the scout's troop is based in auburn, east of sacramento. the district attorney's office will be taking a closer look at the limousine fire on the san mateo bridge that killed five women in may. the investigation is complete. according to media partner, the mercury news, the driver, orville brine on his cell phone fighting with his estranged wife just before the fire. brown's wife said he had the music turned up so passengers couldn't hear them arguing. police found the limo driver

we're following breaking news out of london where we are waiting for news on a royal arrival. some of the excitement going on outside st. mary's hospital in london is what you're looking at a live picture here. hrh, her royal highness, his royal highness, we don't know which. kate middleton is in labor. we do know she arrived at the hospital overnight. again, this is a live look at st. mary's hospital where we're all awaiting big news. >> we'll continue to follow that on twitter, abc 7 news bay area. sad news about this man, actor dennis fer inna died at 69. a representative for the actor said he died in scottsdale, arizona after suffering a blood clot in his lung. he was a former police officer who starred in movies on

television. he was in a movie with jason aleksander and starred in the hbo movie called "luck." the trayvon martin case, the fairness of the criminal justice system. abc "washington post" poll finds 86% of african-americans disapprove of the verdict aquitting george zimmerman of criminal charges in martin's death. only 31% of whites disapprove of the verdict. more broadly the same number of affirms say blacks and other minorities do not receive equal treatment in the criminal justice system. ohio man suspected in the death of three women wrapped in trash bags will facing a accelerated murder charges. sex offender michael madison taken into custody over the weekend after the bodies were found near his home in cleveland. police and fbi spent the weekend searching 40 abandoned houses for more bodies but did not find any more. police are concerned madison may

have been influenced by serial killer anthony sowell, a cleveland man serving a death sentence for murdering 11 women. if you have to fill up on gas this morning, you'll have to dig even deeper into your pockets. the national average is $3.67 a gallon. that's up $0.18 since the beginning of the month. the california average of $4.03, bay area $4.08. drivers expect to see higher gas prices for the rest of the summer. experts say unrest in egypt and production in u.s. and other countries are pushing up the price of crude oil and gasoline. >> meteorologist mike nicco up on the roof checking ow the forecast. good morning, mike. >> good morning from top of the abc broadcast center. lets look out and see what we can find. a lot of cloud cover but the sun is trying to break through. you may have noticed when you stepped outside a little humid. that could translate into a thunderstorm or two. i'll map it out in your forecast. >> thanks, mike.

look at this, passengers jump into action at a japanese train station to save a woman who had fallen between the train and platform. the woman fell through a four inch gap exiting the train car. there wasn't enough space to pull the woman out. more than 30 passengers rushed to help. they pushed the train just enough to pull the trapped woman to safety. the woman, who is in her 30s, was not hurt and the train only was delayed about eight minutes. >> four inch gap. >> that's amazing. >> how would she even get through that gap. >> how wonderful all those people wanted to get involved. >> pushing a train, that's not an easy feat. meteorologist mike nicco up on the roof checking out the temperatures.

a little sticky out there. >> absolutely. we don't talk about the dew point very much in the bay area because we have fairly dry air, when the marine layer moves in we have some drizzle. upper 50s to 60s. when you get into the 60s that's when you start feeling uncomfortable. dew point is a measure of humidity in the air, amount of water vapor in the air. not depending on the temperature or anything like that, like relative humidity. it is the absolute measurement of moisture in the air. when you get above 60, it does feel sticky. that's what we're dealing with. flight delays out of sfo, check out flight checker, abc at the bottom. still running an hour, hour fifteen minutes. you see a few spots here. i really want to focus on what's coming at us from the south. most moving out over the ocean. see that one little spike that's moving up. sure, it's light green. it's probably not even hitting the ground. that is some of the energy and moisture that's doing to bring us elevated thunderstorms or at

least the possibility of them over the next 24 to 48 hours. storms are pretty intense to the south. all those areas, flash flood watch we're concerned with, the ones in california because that's where the storms will be developing again and coming our way over the next 24 to 36 hours. back here at home right now, how about small craft advisory, thinking about heading on the bay water today. delta west winds pick up 15 to 25 knots from 1:00 until 9:00 this evening. lets talk about what's going on right now. you can see the change in the air mass, the marine layer almost nonexistent to the south. clouds quickly whisked away from along the coast, almost everywhere. up north another hour or two longer. see that small eddy, circulation, counterclockwise circulation on the screen, that's what's pushing the fog in your neighborhood. even with that, it was moving away from the coast. that's why we'll see sunshine. this the way it looks down to santa cruz this morning. look at all that sunshine if you're down there.

in fact, we'll have heat index and sunshine for the better part of the day. thunderstorm possible in the next 48 hours. once we get past that drier air will come back, temperatures close to average. upper 60s around most of san francisco. richmond the cool spot at 59. 70s inland, 80s in pleasanton, 75 in santa clara. it's going to warm up to 77 in santa clara. you're getting there. you can see what the high clouds are going to do, stop the warming this afternoon. upper 60s to 70s on the peninsula, upper 50s to low 60s along the coast, mid to upper 60s downtown, south san francisco, mid-70s up in the north bay valleys. 60s to 70s along east bayshore, mid-80s, 90s inland. reds in town to take on the giants over at the park. look at the forecast there, 61 dropping down to 58. here is accuweather forecast. temperatures a little below average today and tomorrow with it feeling humid, a chance of a thunderstorm. you can see the flight warming and drier air and more sunshine for wednesday through saturday.
