[applause].hat means >> that means 72 hours left to stop another crippling bart strike. good evening everyone. dan has the night off. we have team coverage tonight beginning with abc 7 news reporter amma in oakland. >>reporter: bart and union negotiators were here until 9 tonight. back at it again at 9 tomorrow morning. both sides say they are committed to working through the weekend to avoid a strike. but at about 7:00 o'clock this evening the union decided to put the public on notice. >> we are giving you a 72 hour notice of impending strike if we are not able to come to agreement with the district by midnight sunday. >>reporter: news no one wanted to hear. that bart and union are struggling to reach a deal. >> this is truly a sad occasio occasion. i don't think i have ever been involved in an effort that we tried so hard not to

have to strike. >>reporter: bart is disappointed with the striking notice saying it will only stall the process of reaching an agreement. >> we haveen ceased our salary offer and reduced our request on pension and benefit. men while still looking for 20 plus percent pay increase. we need a more reason contract for the future of the system. >>reporter: one of the chief negotiator for the union and will continue bargaining 24-7 to avoid a strike but the bart negotiator isn't making it easy. >> whatever instruction mr. mr. hawk has gotten from the general manager has been to avoid bargaining with us and good 98th. >>reporter: hawk says that just isn't true. >> we have dropped a lot of things agreed to a lot of things so how is that bargaining in bad maivt. >>reporter: medical pension wages sticking point in the negotiations and with the strike dead lane looming the bay area council representing local business owners is now weighing in calling on the union to accept bart latest contract offer. >> we need to all work together

chandler in court last year. today as verdict was read the 36-year-old covered his eye was kleenex while this juror wiped away tears as the word guilty was read. >> they were made victims as a result of mr. chandler hiding what he was doing. >> what chandler was doing inside his classroom at this scl elementary school was blindfolding students and telling them they were part of a lesson involving sensory deprivation and helen kerl and the notes one little girl reported chandler told her to lie down and then he put something gooy in her mouth. >> he was found in the classroom compelling evidence. district relethe school distrid a statement late today saying it's helping everyone move forward and that chandler actions not only violated these children but also cast a pal on the sense of safety and security in our schools for the past 18 months. this parent says moving on isn't that easy. >> i good to that school all

off and to eat lunch. her arraignment arra for next month. >> abc 7 news learned the city of richmond plans to file a lawsuit against chevron tomorrow morning. suit is asking for damages for the cleanup emergency response to the fire at the richmond rae finery last august. more than 15,000 residents went to the hospital avco roaded pipe exploded sending blanket of smoke over the city and beyond. statement chevron said it couldn't comment on the lawsuit but did say we believe the decision to pursue such a suit is a waste of the city resource yet another example of its failed leadership. >> strong winds drove brush fire that nearly reached several homes in pittsburgh today. it started at 3 this afternoon on willow pass road near the sea cow pittsburgh power plant. authorities had to shut down the road because the smoke in the area was so thick it took an hour for firefighters to put it out. no homes were damaged. up next on 7 news at 11:00. u.s. embassy on alert. new security concern that force the

department officials announce today that facilities in more than a dozen country will be closed this sunday including some of our biggest. egypt. iraq. kuwait. senior u.s. official told abc news that it is a specific threat. they don't know what exactly the target is. >> specifically august 4th it's possible we may have additional day of closing as well. of course depending on our analysis. >> now this is the first mass closing of embassy and consulate because of intelligence threat since 2002. first anniversary of the september 11 attacks. >> right now mosquitos fogging getting under way in san jose to fight west nile virus. it's near the airport in the area between the expressway, sierra road and trade zone boulevard. in contra costa county 8 more birds have tested positive for west nile. the infected birds were found in antioch, brentwood, concord, danville, pittsburg and walnut creek. people can contract the virus when mosquito bites infected bird then a person. >> southern california woman is

recovering tonight after frightening shark attack in hawaii. retired school teacher cash man snorkeling on wednesday. she was about 30 pet from shore and water only about 10 feet deep when the shark bit her. >> i didn't see it coming and didn't see it going. so the doctor in the er said he thinks according to the bite and where they are and what it looked like it was probably about a 25 foot shark. that was his gues guess. >>reporter: the shark quickly let go and she made it pack to the beach screaming for help. cashman has bite mark on her back and bruises across her stomach. she is expected to recover fully. >> new vehicle shown off for the first time today could transform how some of us travel. inventor gave demonstration of the flying car at air show in wisconsin today. the transition car is a stream legal vehicle that can unfold its wings and then fly away in just a matter of minutes it will be available for sale in 2015 for 2 79,000 dollars.
