francisco where the mayor and the governor's top gunner monitoring the situation. >> we start with abc7 news reporter amy hollyfield in oakland with the latest on the negotiations. >> bart's chief negotiator is inside behind closed doors with the boards -- boards of directors and is asking for a status report to hear from both sides. >> we should be in a situation where we are close to an agreement. i wish i could say we are. i don't think we are. >> the status of negotiations straight from a union negotiator to the bart board. the board will get a briefing from bart management in closed session but the public comment session was full of union leaders and pro union groups who had nothing nice to say how the

negotiations have been conducted. >> in the contracts this is my 7th i have been involved in, i can honestly say this is by far the most disappointing, the worst experience. >> outside the meeting we asked for reaction from bart. >> it is frustrating. there is the public line. we trying to negotiate both sides trying to be fair behind-the-scenes and at the end of the day we trying to do what is best for the workers. >> the union leader say they have never seen negotiations move so slowly that an unbelievable amount of time has been wasted calling the chief negotiator for bart a union buster. a union member spoke to bart. >> slinging arrows and a distraction because they do not want to talk about salary, pensions and benefits, the real issues. >> negotiations continue through the weekend. the unions have issued a 72-hour

warning saying a strike could happen on monday if an agreement isn't reached. the board is behind closed doors right now. it will be interesting to see what the board has to say. we will be here covering every angle of the negotiations. stay with abc7 news. >> abc7 news reporter joins from city hall where the pressure is on both sides is building. >> the labor secretary and mayor say that negotiations cannot drag on and an agreement needs to be reached this weekend. they were joined by other bay area leaders that would be impacted by a bart strike. the man that helped broker the 30 day extension that got the trains up and running on july 5 after the last strike says this has drag on too long.

he said that the governor will consider all his obligations if to agreement is reached this weekend. >> we don't want this to drag on. we want this settled. this is, as the mayor has explained, there is great expense to getting ready if the potential strikes. we do not think the people of the bay area should be kept on pins and needles. >> they need to know, it is no longer a meat of inconvenience to the ridership. it is hardship. >> san francisco leaders say muni is ready to accommodate more people if there is a strike. they will provide extra service. they will increase parking patrols and expand space for car pooling. the union lowers say they are appreciative of the mayor's intervention. >> if there is a strike bart is hoping to have up to 95 buses available to make limited runs from walnut creek and

>> the city of richmond filed a lawsuit against chevron. the suit is asking for damages for the clean up and emergency response to the fire at the richmond refinery in august. more than 15,000 residents went to the hospital after a pipe exploded sending a blanket of smoke over the city and beyond. in a statement, chevron said they could not comment on the lawsuit but said that "we believe the decision to pursue such a suit is a waste of the city's resources and another example of the failed leadership." >> investigators are trying to figure what sparked a fire that destroyed six cars in hayward this morning. the fire department gave this video to abc7 news captured after the crews arrived around 3:15. firefighters kept the flames from a burning carport from reaching any homes. the fire, though, woke many neighbors. >> i heard something like a bang and i opened the door and everything was in flames.

we got outside and everyone was screaming. >> no one was hurt but paramedic treat as man would claims he was punched in the eye and says the neighbors thought he started the fire because he pulled his truck out of the carport moments after the fire starts the. >> in oakland the motorcyclist is dead after a bizarre accident. police think an s.u.v. landed on top of the motorcyclist after he had fallen off the motorcycle. it happened near 3rd before 11:00 last night. the s.u.v. appeared to be speeding before the crash. the overpass was closed for several hours while investigators looked for evidence. >> two were ised marijuana growers return to court to answer charges of keeping a teenage sex slave. the lake county sheriff provided these pictures, federal prosecutors say the men made 15-year-old southern california gulf live in a small metal box and they found 1,300 pot plants and several weapons in a raid. the teen was abused but, also, forced toocs pot plants.

the 30-year-old ryan baletto and 25-year-old patrick pearmain could face life sentencing if they are convicted. >> another round of tests began a short time ago on steam rods installed on the bay bridge after 32 similar rods failed this year. the test will focus on checking the long metal bolts for how they respond to tests and the elements. they are designed to protect the bridge. fixing the breaken rods forced caltran to delay the opening of the new bridge which was scheduled for labor day weekend. >> next on abc7 news why the f.d.a. wants to place new warnings on a common pain reliever. >> the state department says stay put. we have the latest on a terror threat

>> on a growing terror throw, the state department is wanting people not to travel overseas. that is in addition to closing embassies this weekend. katie marzullo joins us from the newsroom with the latest. >> in the last few hours the state department has issue add global travel alert for americans because of an al-qaeda terrorist threat. officials say the potential for terrorism is particularly strong in the middle east and north africa. >> the warning for travelers comes on the homes of a terror threat aimed at eastern interests in the muslim world. there is a specific threat, a concerted effort against the united states embassy or

consulate, but we do not know the specific target. another official adds that there could be other targets not just embassies. on sunday every embassy and consulate in muslim countries will be closed from egypt to iraq, kuwait, bahrain and afghanistan. >> the department takes steps like to balance our continued operations with security and safety. >> looming large on many minds is the surprise attack on the consulate in benghazi. insurgents with ties to al-qaeda killed the ambassador and three other americans. >> at that point in time, someone forgot to sickle the calendar that it was 9/11 and we might want to preposition assets or have contingency plans in place. this time, with the intelligence, steps are being taken. >> the decision to shut down an embassy would be made by an ambassador but this time, washington, dc is ordering the closings. this is the first mass closing of embassies and consulates because of an intelligence threat since 2002 the first

tower, isn't that cool picture with the clouds up to sutro and east of that, they are nonexistent so that is where the stopping line is right now. that will retreat closer to the coast as we head through the morning and in the afternoon so you have warmer high, with early sunshine and a few more clouds the next couple of days dropping the afternoon temperatures. it look like steady weather pattern through the firsts say, week or week and a half of august, no real heat wave or cooling trends and in the east bay hills it will be warmest and where we will see the biggest jump in temperatures in condition core at 86, seven degrees warmer and fremont long the east bay shore and everyone else is two to six degrees warmer than yesterday, so, more 70's and 80's, and less sect and 70's. 80 in san jose and cupertino. we are ith upper 70's for the peninsula and low-to-mid 60's along the coast and upper 60's in downtown and sausalito is
