their bags just in case they decide to negotiate around the clock tonight and into the weekend. >> union officials tell abc 7 news the main sticking points, wages, benefits and health care have not been dealt with. workers saying they will walk off the job monday morning if they do not get what they want. >> there needs to be more talks on that. they need to be longer talks. it's unfortunate they haven't been very fruitful to inch closer to a deal. >> you ask yourself what's you pay towards health insurance. you know? no contribution towards pension. come on. >> now, bart officials are expected to make an announcement at any time during this hour and we'll take you live to the transit agency's news conference when it begins. >> union leaders want bart board members to be more involved in the negotiations.,zw the directors then disappeared behind closed doors.

abc 7 news reporter nick smith joins us live now from the ashby station. nick? >> it's been tough for everyone involved. the thing i kept hearing over again was everyone wants a deal to be made with less than two days to go before strikes it seems everyone wants everyone to get to the table to hammer out a deal. the board got an ear frfl commuters and union representatives pushing for an agreement to avoid phone shall strike. union representing the majority of the workers issued a notice of intent to strike sunday at midnight accusing members of not doing nouf hear them out. they held a closed door session, the first time all met in a group since june, james fang, the board's senior members believes this played into progress on both sides of the table and told me more

union members have taken seriously this effort so. have we. it's true on the big issues like pension medical and wage swrez to discuss it. we're within the 40 hour work week. those are issues for the table. they're doing a fine skbrob have all weekend to do it. they have longer if they want. we're making efforts to work with our unions and workers. they're great people. i love them this, process happens every four years, sorry it's disruptive to the bay area but you know, if it were a party we'd be calling it something else. it's not, it's negotiations, hard work. >> how much time are you spending at the table? i've been working on this every day since the last couple weeks we started on this in january. i'm involved in the issues and everything else.

the table is set up so negotiators negotiate. i come in, at the end that. is the way it's been at bart. so to make an issue of my not sitting at the table these negotiators have kept me on their shoulder every step of the way. we're aware of the moves that have been made on both sides of the table. >> you've heard many negotiations behind them over the years and they say this is different in the sense it's just silenced and not a back and forth. a compromise and won't be a give and take. is the tone of this different? >> we won't have dozens of tentative agreements if there wasn't back and forth going on every day. i'm sorry for the way they've characterized things we have a lot of work to do but won't have that agreements if there

hadn't been a lot of back and forth here. >> what about claims the way they directed a union busting. >> we love our workers here at bart we have a fuf negotiation. it's a tough negotiation. the bay area has been in a recession in the past. we're starting to come out of it. i think workers expectations when starting into this negotiations to makeup for past four years on this contract. it's just not done. they did make some sacrifices in the range of $70 million over the last contract. that was partly management and labor. we, they cut money. i wasn't around back then. nobody goes backward in the case of the state if there are furloughs, if there was a pay cut what. they can do is

eliminate the pay or cuts and bring salaries back to where it was in the case of furloughs you can not have the furloughs anymore. but you don't go back and revisit economics. i think workers came expecting to do that. i don't, i understand it. i just can't go backwards. i have to deal with what is in front of us. >> you've been listen together ceo take questions and give answers about the negotiations that are underway. she describes them as moving in the right drichblgts and. >> he they did say i'm not sure this was as significant an announcement as they thought it might oob she did reiterate progress has been made and says that they have been dozens of back and forth agreements and she says they're talking.

jobless rate has fallen but growth is slowing down. labor department says the unemployment rate fol 7.4%, lowest level since december, 2008. but employers added only 16,000 jobs, fewest since march. many jobs are lower paying part time positions in stores and restaurants and bars. experts say businesses may be cautious still because they're unsure about the economy growth. >> the tough economy is
