monday morning. we have been monitoring the negotiations in oakland. here's the latest. reporter: bottom line is, no settlement yet, and that midnight deadlines closing in fast. both sides are still talking here at the caltrans building you can see some members of the atu taking a break. tonight it's a last-ditch effort to avoid a b.a.r.t. strike. >> with the deadline clock ticking both sides were back the bargaining table sunday morning to try and aindividual a b.a.r.t. strike. b.a.r.t. negotiator said there's reason to be hopeful. >> nobody is saying we're -- we're not saying we're not go to strike, and everyone wants a solution, and that's positive. >> but members of the amalgamated transit union seem

history does not repeat itself. >> b.a.r.t. officials had nothing to say but did text me they hope a solution and settlement can be reached by knight. lead negotiator for atu, antoinette bryan grabbed something from her cars. she was all smiles saying the talks continue and they're going pretty well. but she would say nothing else. if there is a settlement, you'll be the first to know. live in downtown oakland, abc7 news. >> ama: other public transit agencies are prepared for a possible b.a.r.t. strike. san francisco transit officials are expanding casual car tool locations, ac transit will run the regular service in the east bay to san francisco and will provide all the extra service possible. the san francisco bay ferry will increase the number of ferries and on the peninsula, buses will

moment they go on strike or a deal is reached, we'll let now know. join us for live coverage tomorrow morning starting at 4:00 with the morning news anchors, and traffic reporter. >> abc news has learned the federal government is boosting security measures at airports, train stations, and other transportation hubs after a credible terrorism threat. the san francisco police department says they're aware of the state department's terror alert status. police say they're monitoring various areas of the city and will determine if additional resources are necessary. golden gate bridge officials would only say they remain on alert at all times. we will have a live report on the security measures on 6:00. >> as for the threat, a u.s. intelligence reports al qaeda is planning a massive attack somewhere against the united states. the terror plot is called, very active, led by osama bin laden's former personal secretary.

u.s. embassies in the middle east shut their doors today and a travel alert is in effect for americans traveling abroad. devin dwyer has more. >> u.s. ben biases today looked like siege behinds across the middle east. in yemen, american troops ring the compound, patting down passersby. from western africa to bangladesh, a 7,000-mile security belt was pulled tight. leaving 22 u.s. embassies and consulates dark and empty. >> there's a significant threat stream, and we're reacting to it. >> u.s. intelligence has intercepted al qaeda communications about an attack on strategic significant american interests but the exact target remains unclear. >> we received information that high-level people from al qaeda in the arabian peninsula are talking about a major attack. >> one official told abc news the part that is alarming is the confidence they showed while communicating and the air of certainty. one major worry, explosives

>> new details from los angeles this evening, police plan to ask prosecutors to charge a hit-and-run suspect with murder after it appeared he aimed his car at people along venice beach. the surveillance video captured a black car speak into a crowded boardwalk. one woman from italy died. the 32-year-old came to california on her honeymoon. 11 others were taken to the hospital. >> it was intentionally doing it. hoe wasn't honking his horne. just doing 40-miles-an-hour and just hitting people. i've never seen anything like that. >> ama: here's another view of the tragedy unfolding. the suspect turned himself in a few hours later, 38-year-old nathan campbell remains in japan. -- remains in jail. bail is $1 million.
