and has a long union history with an international brotherhood of electrical workers and the orange county building trades council. >> the bart board sent this letter to the governor requesting a 60-day cooling off period. he opted instead to order an investigation into the contract dispute between bart and the unions. workers are not allowed to strike during the seven-day inquiry. the letter requesting the cooling off the period said and i quote, "we believe the public should not be deprived of this public service unless all alternative those avoid work stoppage are utilized." the entire record is posted on our website at abc7 news co. word of the strike being put off came late, after most commuters want to wed. some still inconvenienced and not too happy. we are at dublin/pleasanton station with more. >> i will tell you those would live in the area most likely

catching the west dublin bart train decided to stay in. this place is dead. i thought i would have an opportunity to engage with different commuters and get their reaction to the news. my guess is most people heard and decided to sleep longer. some possibly are deciding to go ahead with a different plan or option. since the planes are running it looks as those people have decided to sleep in longer. i will tell you that the order by the governor will surely ease the minds of hundreds of thousands of commuters. kristen, the only people here are me, a cab driver, and the gate agent who opened up the station. when i get a single commuter, i will grab them hold them down and get a reaction.

waze yap to navigate the freeways. >> an update on our breaking news from the south bay. crews are on the scene of a two alarm apartment building in san jose. matt keller is at the scene with the latest information on how it is affecting the folk would live there. >> the power is still out. people are still out in the streets talking with red cross and will not allowed in the home until power is restored. firefighters received multiple calls of a fire in an apartment. and they found a heavy column of smoke and two apartments engulfed if fire. everyone escaped. the resident of one says her boyfriend returned from fishing and started cooking in the kitchen and this is what happened. i heard the smoke aheart and i opened the door there was black smoke and the kitchen was on

the main layer is justy this morning. temperatures are running on the cool side, dress for mid-50's to near 61 in mountain view and 60 in san jose. oakland and hayward and san carlos are at 57. this persistent area of low pressure has been sitting on us for better than a couple of weeks and that is the bowl of cooler-than-average weather and you can see the flow coming ashore. as long as it sits here and it will for another week temperatures are not going to reach the potential and get up to summer-time levels or near average. today will be five to nine degrees cooler-than-average. you can see the cloud cover at exploritorium and at sfo, there will be flight arrival delays so use the flight tracker at abc7 news cop. the next 12 hours, clouds and mist and drizzle through 7:00 with temperatures holding in the

>> good monday morning. this is the oakland maze. traffic is light and doing fine. bart strike has been averted for now. after the governor post laughs minute intervention. for now, bart trains are normal but today more people may hit the roads and drive not knowing what was going to happen. right now you can see it looks fine but leyla gulen will keep a chose cry on the bay area roadways and let you know if there is extra volume. >> the san mateo county sheriff is searching for a 16-year-old boy would walked away from a juvenile detention facility. he left a log cabin youth catch at 6:30 last night, a minimum security facility and is described only as a black male, 16 years of age and wearing tan pants. >> we know the name of a woman shot to death in san jose on saturday morning. the 19-year-old kimberly joyce

was shot at south 2nd and east salvador streets. she was riding in a car and someone fired on the vehicle. this is san jose's 30th homicide of the year. >> contra costa county sheriff deputies arrested a man suspected in the deadly stabbing of a hardware store worker. it is believed the 49-year-old victim was targeted at random yesterday and the suspect was captured near the store and in jail. the name of the victim is not released. >> los angeles police have not released a motive why a 38-year-old driver plowed into a walkway killing a woman and injuring 11. the suspect has been identified as nathan campbell arrested on suspicion of murder with the crash. several surveillance videos caught the suspect's car swearing down the boardwalk on

saturday. witnesses say there was in doubt about the suspect's intention. >> he was looking for blood. >> he was intentionally doing it. he was not honking just, you know, doing 40 miles per hour, and hitting people. i have never seen anything like that. >> 32-year-old italian tour it died of her injuries on her honeymoon. campbell fund himself in an hour after the crash and is held in lieu of $1 million. >> hundreds of airline passengers bound for australia on a backup plan after an emergency landing at sfo. the pilots of united flight 863 claimed one of the engines failed after take off. the boeing 747 returned to sfo while emergency crews were on the runway. no injuries to the 348 passengers or 18 crew members.

up the peninsula we are in the mid-70's until san mateo and millbrae. mid-to-upper 60's and struggle to get to 60 in a few isolated spots. low-to-mid 70's south san francisco and sausalito and upper 60 to low 70's for most of the north bay, and warmer around napa and vallejo and 74 degrees and 58 at bodega bay and possibly 64 simpson beach. in the east bay valley, low-to-mid 80's under mostly sunny afternoon. if you are headed to the game tonight, dress warmly. there will be a breeze. clouds are rolling in. we will start at 59. well drop down to 56 by the end of the game. tonight the temperatures are in the 50's, and most of us with cloud cover, there is patchy drizzle for the commute tomorrow. tomorrow will be a lot like today but an area of low pressure draws near and look how it really brings down the

field into the 2015 season. however, a-rod could still be allowed to play while he fights the suspension. >> there were no steroids. no one can do what he did. i thought you were innocent until proven guilty. until you have concrete evidence... >> 13 other players are expected to be suspended with him for links to a clinic accused of distributing performance-enhancing drugs. >> fast food workers are demanding better pay and the right to unionize. some workers who hold down two fast food jobs say they still not earning enough to make in's meet. the demands came over calls from the white house and some members of congress and economy its for modest raise in the minimum wage. many fast food workers took to the street to double the federal minimum wage from $7.25 to $15 an hour. the restaurant industry argues that could please to businesses chosing and fewer jobs.
