inland and 74 to 81. clouds will linger from 66 to 74 and the most clouds will hang around the coast into san francisco at 57 to 64. leyla gulen has the update. >> we do not see too many problems in terms of how the wet roads affect traffic. so far, it is decent but we have a crash in san jose on the connection between northbound 87 and 280. we do have the car on the shoulder that is not blocking any lanes and we are looking at clear conditions. as we look at our drive time traffic, tracy to dublin is half an hour in the westbound direction. 101 southbound from san rafael to san francisco is 15 minute commute. to the bay bridge tolls, it is decent and we are looking at cars making their way up to cash-paying lanes. other than that, it is free-flowing. >> good commute news, a.c.

transit is running after the transit service and the drivers union reached a last minute contract deal to avoid a strike. abc7 news reporter matt keller is at the terminal in san francisco. matt? >> i don't want you to be discoupled, empty. but the buses will run this morning, a welcome reprieve from transportation concerns for people in the bay area. the deal was made an hour before midnight when a strike could have started. union officials say the agreement gives 1,800 bus drivers and mechanics and dispatchers and workers 9.5 percent race over three years but they will ticket to medical benefits. >> longer process, longer than we wanted, but because the issues were difficult, that is why. in the end, both sides are happy. >> those moments come when you know you have done your best,

you have stayed there and you have negotiated the best contract you can negotiate with whomever you negotiate with. >> unions have to approve the deal and will vote later this month but this morning is business as usual for the 180,000 people who use a.c. transit in the bay area. >> thank you very much. the two sides in the bart dispute are preparing to make the case before a governor's board of inquiry in oakland this morning. the governor appointed the three-member panel to examine where contract talks stand and how it impacts the bay area. he wants the report by friday and decide if he will ask a judge to declare a 60-day cooling off period preventing a strike or lockout. bart folks and union leaders have not held bargaining talks sin the governor stepped in on sunday night hours before the contract expired. >> if you would like to go to the meeting it is open to the public and will be held at the state building in oakland at

and her brother, 8-year-old ethan could be with james dimaggio accused of their abduction, a family friend. a vigil was held in san diego. the body of the children's mother was found sunday in a burned out home owned by dimaggio. a child's body was also found and he could be ethan but police treating the case as a double abduction. investigators may be with dimaggio in the blue nissan california license plate 6wcu986. officials think he could be headed to texas or canada. >> new details of an oakland woman missing since sunday night. the car of the 50-year-old woman was found in an oakland parking lot near her home yesterday. two her cell phones have been located. one phone was found near mcdonald's street exit in richmond. she is a death penalty expert who works for the physical public defender's office. police are not sure if the

disappearance is related to her job or a meeting with someone who had information about her dog stolen during a burglary in may. >> she told her daughter she would be home in half an hour and was not seen after. >> she is 5' 6" and 150 pounds and last seen wearing a black and white shirt and dark jeans. >> school districts in oakland and san francisco are among eight in the state that received waivers to parts of the federal no child left behind law giving funds to schools based on student test scores. the oakland tribune reports that the district will continue to receive about $3 million in funds with the program with more discretion on how to spend it but rather than requiring tests showing all students performing at the grade level in math and reading, oakland will be able to use new standards and including accountability factors such as attendance and graduation rates and critical thing and civic involvement. >> with each hour the powerball

a happening today a contractor is tear down the house where three women were imprisoned and rapes for a decade. here is a look at the home that belongs to 53-year-old ariel castro. work is be done right now to tear it down. one of the victims, michelle knight, released balloons to signal the start of the demolition. he was sentenced last week to life in prison plus 1,000 years after pleading guilty to hundreds of kidnapping and rape charges. all of the building material will be shredded so it is not for sale online and will be completed today. the contractor is doing this work for free. >> the f.b.i. is asking for help catching robbers who targeted five banks in san francisco and one on the peninsula in just four months. the f.b.i. called them the "high jumper bandits," after they were showed jumping over the top of counters with thick jackets, gloves and scarves to hide their

faces and investigators say the robbers have become increasingly violent and pointed guns at tellers and one time they pistol-whip add teller. >> a year since the massive chevron refinery fire was marked with the ringing of a gong commemorting 15,000 people that went to the hospital after the explosion and fire. on monday, chevron agreed to pay $2 million to settle fines stemming from the disaster. >> the san jose police department is struggling with low staffing and lower morale. the bay area largest city joined cities across america to take a stand against crime. abc7 news reporter has details on national night out. >> the reality is, san jose is not going to be a safe place. >> detective james gonzalez insists that the police department is in a state crisis especially after san jose's

30th homicide on saturday night that took the life of a 19-year-old san jose state nursing student. the unintended victim was caught in the cross fire while riding in a car downtown. >> we cannot patrol the city with the number of officers we have and innocent people are dying. >> the detective goes goes says saturday night was also the first time no officers volunteered to work overtime downtown because they were all too tired and burned out. the department still required a few to stay light. >> are you comfortable with the numbers? >> no, we need to grow. >> the police chief tried to be optimistic while attending national night out events and knows that petty crime and property crime and homicide are all on the rise. he is relying on the department's 40 newest academy recruits to fill in the agains. >> we need the extra overtime but we are trying not to exhaust the officers so the recruits are important to reduce the number of overtime. >> the recruits are not self-sufficient for several more

utilize our flight tracker at abc7news.com. the golden gate bridge shows a dry spot here. i came in on 580 and 24 and they were all wet because of the drizzle. the highs are short of our average. brighter and more comfortable weather this weekend. comfortable meaning not freezing if you are outside or have to wear a coat. everyone is in cloud cover this morning, and it will take the better part of about to noon just for the inland east bay and the south bay. most of the bay is still cloudy at lunch and most of the north bay at least from 101 over to the coast is still cloudy by noon. those same areas will still have a hard time getting rid of the clouds by 3:00. we will purge holes in it and bring you the sunshine but it will not be clear day like we are used to.

southbound from fremont to san jose is 15 minutes and 280101 in the northbound direction is 12 minutes. the live picture is walnut creek coming away from highway 4 to the 4 junction and not too many cars and, of course, there could be a couple of slick areas. >> new information this morning on the southwest airlines plane that crash landed at la guardia. the flight from nashville, tennessee, no new york, landed hard on a collapsed nose gear on july 22nd, and 16 people were injured. the national transportation safety board says the captain took control from the first officer 400' from the ground, very late and very unusual. that is the first trip together for that captain and the first officer. investigators say the nose gear failed, because of stress overload. >> actor dustin hoffman is recovering from cancer surgery, a spokesman will not say what type of cancer the 75-year-o

actor has but it was treated. the spokesman says it was detected early and he is feeling great and in good health. he has four film roles wrapping up or currently in production. >> former president george w. bush expects to leave hospital after a stent was inserted to clear a clogged artery. territories revealed the blockage during his annual checkup. the 43rd president plans do resume the normal schedule tomorrow. >> small victory reversing decades of increases in the number of obese american children. the centers for disease control found from 2008 to 2011, obesity among low on-- low-income preschoolers dropped. in california it dropped by half a percent from 17.3 percent to 16.8 percent. the centers for disease control credits the drop to better education of fitness and nutrition.
