a break in the case of missing oakland woman sandra coke on who disappeared sunday night. the focus is where a late night search is under way. i'm carolyn johnson. >> the search is happening in vallejo near the fairgrounds. a person of interest is being questioned. abc 7's reporter alan wong is live where it began late this evening. why so late? >> reporter: they won't say exactly why, but there is definitely a sense of urgency. the command post we have seen at least 70 volunteers prepare and move out on foot and all te rape vehicles. a group just left here.

the sense of urgency is so strong that they launched this search in the dark with just a few hours left in the day. around 8:30 the police department's investigative unit walked out and went straight to vallejo. search crews were combing the fairgrounds and dan foley park for clues leading to 50-year-old sandra coke who has been missing since sunday. >> not only land, but also the body of water that is adjacent to the fairgrounds. >> police will not say who provided the information that led them here, but they are questioning a person of interest. randy alana is a registered sex offender in custody on an unrelated offense. >> information in the investigation was developed that randy alana and sandra coke were seen later that evening which would be sunday august 4th. >> the night sandra disappeared. >> we know that person over 20

years ago dated sandra coke briefly and reappeared in the bay area rather recently and reached out to sandra for help. >> two days later coke's mini cooper was found in a, paing lot not far from her home. two cell phones were found, one in emeryville and the other tossed the out near the ramp near i-80 in it richmond. >> we are desperate to see her returned home safely. we are asking anybody with information about my sister, sandra coke to please, please come forward. >> today the family announced a $100,000 reward for information leading to sandra's return. this search is just getting into full swing. the oakland police department said they will be here all night long and hope that sandra coke is alive, but they believe this search could determine whether or not foul play is involved. reporting live at the solano

county fairgrounds in vallejo, abc 7 news. >> if there any developments during this newscast, we will bring them to you right away. our coverage continues on twitter in the bay area as well. >> a break in the case of a nursing student shot to death over the weekend. late today police arrested the man they believe pulled the trigger on the same day the family gathered for her funeral. live in san jose with new details. lisa? >> reporter: kimberly chico was a passenger in a car when she was shot and killed and police arrested a man who was standing right here when he shot her. homicide detectives and investigators from the district attorney's office took another closer look at the area where kimberly chico was murdered less than 24 hours after they arrested johnny lozanno for the 19-year-old student's murder.

an officer on patrol yesterday noticed a group of men in front of this beacon guess station. they resembled the people described running away from the shooting scene saturday night. >> i took a second look and maybe i will stop and have a talk and perhaps they are involved somehow. it's a long shot. he stopped and contacted them and ultimately located a loaded firearm on one of them. >> john issy lozanno seen here was arrested on the spot. police think lozanno was firing at someone or something that night and chico was caught in the crossfire. >> someone killed this person and needs to be held accountable for it. i'm glad they found somebody. >> those who live near the shooting scene can't believe what happened. violence is not a part of the downtown they know. this man did not want to be identified. he heard the shots at night and saw men runninga, way. >> i'm saying it's crazy.

>> these bullet holes in at this time building are reminders of that night and what many don't want their neighborhood to become. in san jose, abc 7 news. >> new details about a murder that led to a standoff and a fatal police shooting in sunnyvale. we are told the man who was tilled by police after a two-hour standoff killed his estranged wife. a, about c 7 news learned the two were in court yesterday for a divorce. she filed for a restraining order citing domestic violence and we are learning that he owns a metal works company a short drive from his home. police cordoned off the triplex that he own and he used one unit as his office and represented out the other. one of the units with bart will issue a 48 hour strike notice

tomorrow if no progress is made. they made the threat after talks ended. the issues remain the same. salary and medical contributions and overtime. governor brown ordered a board to investigate the talks and expected to decide this weekend whether to declare a 60-day cooling off period. new at 11:00, a muni bus caught fire this afternoon upon in san francisco's outer richmond district. the bus was on geary near 28th when flame broke out after 3:00. sky 7 was overhead moments after crews put out the fire. firefighters tell us it looks like an engine problem started it all. they managed to get off the bus safely. >> officials in san bruno canceled classes after police searched unsuccessfully for a man thought to be armed with a rifle. they received reportsa the noon and placed a lockdown because they feared he was heading there. skyline is located near the san francisco jail. the lockdown was lifted at 6:30

and no classes are scheduled friday so school will reopen on monday. >> developing news on the amber alert for a man believed to have kidnapped a teenager and killed her mother and brother. they believe he may be carrying explosives or rigged hads car with them. they believe he may be headed to canada with 16-year-old hannah anderson. the amber alert covers california, oregon, nevada and canada. they had sightings of the blue nissan versa. >>. >> the body of a missing snorkeler off maui has been identified as an oakland man. he was last seen yesterday heading out for a swim and reported missing by friends and family and of course the search started. his body was not found until this morning. maui police classified it as a miscellaneous fatality with no signs of criminal activity. in other words, just a tragic accident. a dozen victims of the

asiana plane crash filed a lawsuit against the aircraft and boeing that crashed at sfo last month. we spoke with one of the attorneys involved in the suit and live at sfo with the story. >> reporter: dan, it is a 36-page lawsuit and while it does seek monetary compensation for damages, the lawyer said the main goal of the families is to make sure this never happens again. >> by then it's too late. >> reporter: the attorney said the lawsuit is filed as the most extensive and detailed explanation of what led up to the crash. >> poor training and resource management and inattention by the pilots and you have inadequate and ineffective warning systems. >> it states boeing should have updated them with knowa oral command warning like it did with the 737s after a flight crashed under similar circumstances in

. new developments on wildfires burping in southern california. more than 20 santa cruz county firefighters are traveling to riverside county down south to help fight the silver fire burping near banning. it destroyed at least 26 homes and threatening more than 500 others. at least 1500 people are currently under mandatory evacuation orders. six people have been injured and the fire burned 14,000 acres and

is now 20% contained. a new wildfire meantime northwest of that started after noon near wrightwood in the san gabriel mountains. winds are hampering the effort to put out the blaze in the forest. it burned more than 60 acres and no word on any containment at this point. >> police arrested three people in a series of bizarre blind date robberies in mountain view. they were arrested this morning. they are accused of luring men into a blind date after contacting them online. they posed as a woman who wanted a date to bring lots of cash so that she could roll around in it. when the victims arrived, they were robbed. there were at least three similar robberies in mountain view. >>. >> san jose's gold club is open for business. the gentlemen's club is in the heart of downtown much to the dismay of elected officials.

they contend a bikini bar is not the image people want for downtown and others feel it's another piece of the renaissance. the club celebrates its grand opening this weekend. >> a nearly 50-year-old kidnapping is making news once more tonight after months of investigation by abc news and 20-20. the fbi is reopening the investigation into the 1964 kidnapping of a newborn boy from a chicago report. dna testing uncovered that a boy found in new jersey more than a year later and returned to the parents was not actually their son. barbara walters talked with them and that interview will air tomorrow morning on "good morning america." president obama and the first lady went out on the town tonight heading to a popular indian restaurant to celebrate the president's birthday. he turned 52 on sunday ask celebrated at camp david. tonight's dinner was kept off the record until they arrived.

camera from downtown along the bay bridge. low clouds and fog returning, pushing locally inland and across the bay overnight. maybe light sprinkles or drizzle. mostly sunny and mild tomorrow afternoon and remember warmer this weekend as we have a gradual warmy up. gradual because of the low pressure system and the cool air slowly pulling away. we will warm up a tad on sunday. it will be further warming next week. low clouds and fog and widespread across the bay and possibly coastal drizzle. low temperatures in the mid 50s or mid- to upper 50s in the milder locations. tomorrow by the afternoon, mainly sunny in the south bay and high temperatures from 74 to 75 at san jose. up to 79 at morgan hill. on the peninsula, mainly 70s. 74 in redwood city and 73 at palo alto. low to mid 60s on the coast.
