delaying a strike threatened by b.a.r.t. workers. we were in court for the ruling, one that eases stress for bay area commuters. >> what i'm hearing in effect from the parties is people are in agreement that i go ahead and sign the final injunction, lasting 60 days. >> en in an unusual weekend hearing, the san francisco superior court judge grant for jerry brown's request for a 60-day cooling-off period in the contentious b.a.r.t. negotiations. meaning talks can continue, unions can't strike, and trains will keep running. the ruling reads in part a strike or lockout will significantly disrut public transportation services and endanger the health, safety and welfare. commuters were relieved to hear the news today. >> that's fantastic. i use b.a.r.t. probably four or five days a week, and if they went on strike, it would cause have vac in the -- havoc in the bay area.

>> in july the bart workers went on strike for four days after their contract expired. both sides agreed to extend the contract for one month. the unions were set to strike this monday. then governor jerry brown stepped in. the unions think the order is a delaying tactic that will benefit management. >> i'm afraid negotiations have stalled. and when the 60-day was called, it was going to be stalled. >> as the director, i and my colleagues will be placing pressure on the continuation of negotiations. >> the new deadline to reach an agreement is october 10th at midnight. if they don't reach a settlement by then the governor cannot call anotherring-off period and the unions could strike. >> negotiations resumed soon after the judge's order came down. both sides are meeting again right now, but without the pressure of a midnight deadline. sergio quintana is live in oakland.

>> they returned to the negotiating table just a few hours after the court hearing, getting here at 1:00 in the afternoon. they are still inside. these negotiations continue but it's not yet clear if any progress is being made. prior to this morning's court order, all sides were facing a midnight deadline for a deal and this weekend union lieders are not happy governor jerry brown stepped in and called for the cooling-off period. they were hoping the pressure of a deadline and threat of a strike would get b.a.r.t. management to move on the issues. now that the order has been issued and the unions say they're worried the judge's order stalled the negotiations and as they return to talks today, all sides told us they're here because they want to make an agreement. >> the unions were committed to making a deal by this sunday. even if there's no deal today. whatever we can do today, it's progress. >> i think may 13th we have been in bargaining, and today is

august 12th, 11th, and we don't have a deal. i think that that's very frustrating and not just for us but for them, too. reporter: for the next 60 days, riders can count on uninterrupted service, but union leaders have pointed out that if an agreement is not reached by then, there is still the possibility of a strike, and if there is a strike that is cause called in october there are precious few options the governor or anyone else has to avert any kind of strike, and to keep those trains running, so the pressure is on. reporting live in oakland, abc7 news. >> ama: we're going to be monitoring the talks all evening with updates on abc7 news at 9:00 and 11:00. because of all the b.a.r.t. service uncertainty, abc news will begin half hour earlier tomorrow morning. joining abc7 morning news anchors and traffic reporter at 4:00 a.m. tomorrow for morning news. new at 6:00.

the alameda health system is getting ready to lay off nearly five dozen workers. pink slips are arriving here at highland hospital. the skinning hospital, and wellness clinics in heyward, new york, newark and east oakland. officials are not saying why the workers have to go but the network is making changes, including adding two new hospitals to the system. >> san jose police are investigating a car accident that killed two teenagers. a car with five teenagers inside crashed into a tree. the 19-year-old drive and 16-year-old passenger died. one person was ejected from the car. he and two others are in the hospital and are expected to survive. investigators say speed was likely a factor in the crash. they're also venting if alcohol had -- investigating if alcohol haded in to do with it. >> we're hearing from the

horseback riders credited with helping find a kidnapped teen in idaho. hannah anderson was rescued yesterday. her suspected kidnapper, james dimaggio, died after being shot by agents. the search for anderson and dimaggio seared in on the area after a group of horseback riders saw them on wednesday. >> these people did not want to talk to us whatsoever, and i said to the girl who was soaking her feet, i said, don't you know there's fish? there? trying to joke. and then as we turned to ride away she didn't make any comment, and we says, looks like we're all in trouble now. >> anderson's family looks forward to her homecoming after she was micing for nearly a week. >> i can't cry anymore, i'm so happy. i want to cry because i'm so happy and i don't have any tears left. it's been hard week. >> she's coming home, and we just can't wait.

>> ama: the massive search began when investigators found the bodies of anderson's mother and brother inside dimaggio's burned-out home. >> the silver fire is 90% contained. the fire has burned more than 20,000 acres of brush in riverside county since breaking out four days ago. six firefighters and a motorcyclists who was overtaken by flames have been injured. more than four dozen structures have been burned despite more than 2,000 fire personnel on scene. officials say full containment is expected tomorrow. new at 6:00. survivors of the deadly asiana plane crash last month will be offered compensation by the airline. they plan to pay an initial compensation of $10,000 to each passenger who survived the july 6th crash. the aments supposed to cover medical expenses and transportation. the report says passengers can still sue the airline, even after accepting the compensation

from asiana. three people died when the plane struck a sea wall. more than 300 people onboard survived the crash. >> starting tomorrow, asiana will retire the flight number 214. the flight from south korea to san francisco will be renumbered to flight 121. the return flight will become flight 211. changing flight numbers is something airlines common by do after a disaster. >> still ahead at 6:00, new details on the health of nelson mandela, some real differences say they're -- relatives say they're looking forward to bringing him home. >> keeping tahoe pristine. the mission to save he lake. >> how friends banned together to give a wounded war veteran a unique way of getting around. >> leigh: i'm meteorologist leigh glaser. if you're stuck in the fog, you probably only had temperatures today in the 50s, but inland locations, temperatures near 90 degrees.

improving. the 95-year-old former president has been hospitalized since june 8th. the government has released few details and say mandela is suffering from a reoccurring lung infection. former vice-president al gore will headline an environmental summit concerning lake tahoe next week. gore, along with scientists from around california and nevada will focus on finding ways to eradicate nonnative species. experts will discuss ways to keep the lake pristine. gore helped kick off the summit 17 years ago. a group of army tank vets pitched in to help one of their open get around in southern california. new tread for the iraq war vet

gate right now. santa rosa, low 70s. 80 in concord. here's the forecast highlights. we'll continue with the coastal low clouds, mist and drizzle and dense fog tonight. a warmer day for monday. get ready for a nice really short little warming trend that will stay with us through tuesday and wednesday, and then after that temperatures come down a few degrees. lows tonight, the drizzle, the mist, coastal communities, maybe even the peninsula, look for 50s for the most part. by early tomorrow morning and that cooler area of low pressure that brought the cooling trend has pushed to the north and that's going to allow this wall of warmer air, thanks to a higher pressure actually building from east to west, and it looks like the central valley just out towards the delta where the warmest temperatures will be, but it will begin tomorrow and we'll all come up another two to five degrees through the next several days. average high for livermore, 89.

tomorrow, i'm looking for 87. by wednesday, the warmest day, 90 degrees there. and even san jose will start to build a warmth as we get into wednesday as temperatures climb back up into the low 80s there. so enjoy it. it's been a little below normal the past week or so but we will start to put on more temperatures after the first part of the work week. we'll keep it cool at the coast. half moon by, 62. san francisco, 64. north bay, 80. novato, 80. oakland, 70. fremont, 74. interior east bay, 90, brentwood. 85, concord. the seven-day forecast, the warmest day will be wednesday. low 90s inland, and we'll cool it thursday and friday, a stronger sea breeze, low clouds and fog and temperatures coming down.

>> ama: shu is here with sports. always talking about a new champ. >> mike: in the majors. a two-horse race in today's final round of the pga championship. jason dufner and jim furyk. dufner has this sad sack appeal and is loved by everyone on tour. he lost this in 2011 in a playoff and now the want ma maker trophy is on his man tell. furyk led by one to start the day but two straight birdies on four and five gave dufner he lead at 10-under. furyk has one major win. the u.s. open. and that's right on line. dufner's iron play is stellar. second shot on eight. retainings the lead. leaves the approach within a foot of the hole for another birdie. dufner shows no emotion on the course, and will do it again. spins his approach back for a short birdie putt. make that dufner now up 3.

but furyk made his birdie of 16, too. lead its down to two with two to play. he has a chance. both bogey. on 18, comes up short. no worries. taps in, finished with a 68. a two-stroke victory of furyk, hugs his wife, winning the match. >> i can't believe this is happening to me, and to come back from a couple years nothing this championship, when i lost in the playoffs to win, feels really good. this is such a great course and i'm privileged to play here at oak hill and play in these tournaments and it's a great feeling to actually win one. >> mike: a's and blue jays in tort with dickey and wilson. jays wearing red uniforms on baseball day in canada. beautiful lake ontario. one of the five great lakes. in the fourth, 1-0 jays. the liner to sentence.
