>> the c.h.p. is deep in the investigation trying to figure what led to the crash, not only that, but they are trying to figure out who was behind the wheel hoping the man inside the hospital who is being streeted, who survived, hoping he can answer the questions. northbound 280 at the off-ramp the driver of a van that was converted into a party bus drove off the road before 11:00 last night and want down 20' embank ment and hit a tree and leaving wreckage. the only passenger died at the scene. c.h.p. is only identifying him as a san francisco man in his late 30's. the coroner is not releasing his identity. they have not notified his family. the first responders could not find a driver. a few hours later officers discovered a man near the site and he was questioned but three was uncooperative. they tell me that he was taken

away from an ambulance and the c.h.p. is still unsure if he was the driver. >> it is unknown. we do not know. there is a possible. until we talk to him we were not able to get too much information from him. we do not know if he had a medical condition or he was just not cooperating. >> party buses have been the subject of scrutiny including july of last year when a 25-year-old was killed when she fell out of a bus traveling on highway 17 through the santa cruz mountains. it was discovered that someone pulled an emergency door opened and the bus involved this morning seems to have been converted. c.h.p. still has a lot of questions to be answered and they hope the man in the hospital will answer those. i want to make clear they say alcohol and drugs do not appear to have been a factor in the crash this morning. >> the banner you see at the

>> in southern california, crews battling a destructive wildfire in riverside county are finally making huge progress and expect to have the fire contained by the end of the day, a 20,000 acre fire. it is burning 85 miles east of los angeles. and it is destroyed 26 homes and 22 buildings since it break out on wednesday. 12 people including 11 firefighters have been hurt. right now the good news is that 95 percent contained. >> repair work begins on tsunami warning sirens in san mateo county that do not work. they discovered five of eight sigh republicans -- sirens are broken. the county officials say that repair work should be finished by early september. until then, extra police and sheriff deputize are on hand to alert the public in the event of a disaster. text and e-mails will be used in

>> a warning this morning of a new scam targeting people interested in representing vacation homes near lake tahoe. the police department says that more and more fake postings are popping up on legitimate rental shiites. when people contact the poster they are sent a rental agreement and asked to wire payment to an account. when the vacationers arrive they discover it was a scam and police say the suspects are using different names but, often, post the same cell phone number. police are asking homeowners to watch out for fake postings involving their properties. >> sky watchers hope for better weather to see the meteor showers, with one bay area spot offering a view. folks were hoping to see shooting stars but the fog rolled in. there should be 100 pleat -- meteors an hour.

bay and the low-to-mid 70's around concord and san ramon and antioch and san jose and los gatos and those are going to be the areas that will be the warmest the next couple of mid-mornings because they will get the sunshine first. look at downtown, it looks beautiful from emeryville with high definition back drop for the forecast and it will be brighter and warmer this afternoon. clouds covering in and possible coastal drizzle and the best two nights are the best nights to see the meteors. if you can get further inland or to the south you can see them for most of the night. summer warmth for the week with a cooling trend but it is not going to get out of hand. in san jose you can see the bright sunshine and you are going to jump the most today, 73 year, to 78, and the rest of us jump one to two degrees but it is a warming trend that we have lacked for most of august. mid-to-upper 70's for most of

the santa clara valley and santa cruz, today, as well. low-to-mid 70's on the peninsula until millbrae at 67. along the coast we will have low-to-mid 60's and we will see more sunshine than we did yesterday. mid-to-upper 60's downtown and south san francisco and sausalito and you can see what the last push of cloud is doing to petaluma and you are 76 and everyone else is in the upper 70's to low 80's. berkeley is in the upper 60's and everyone else in the low-to-mid 70's and not uncomfortable but it is getting warmer in the east bay valleys and up to 90 in brentwood. tonight, mid-50's again with drizzle along the coast account clouds are not so thick as this morning. check out the temperature in palm springs and las vegas, in the 100's and our weather is coming from there so the low that brought the cool and wet weather, now the high will be
