those who are stuck cannot get off or turn around and c.h.p. is out this and they say it will take possibly until 7:30 to re-open the lanes. the sig-alert is in effect until at least that time and possibly longer causing heavy lanes. the best alternate is mission boulevard from 680 or fremont connecting you to highway 4 and getting you back to 680. the drive is ruined. zero miles per hour. fog may have been a factor. mike nicco will tell us about that. >> at the of us are dealing with fog and there could be mist in the sunol grade so it could be a little wet. we are showing the hills are cloudy and foggy.

novato is one mile. three quarters in santa rosa and half moon bay. that is the thickest nog. oakland is down to seven. san carlos is down to nine. it is starting to work its way into more neighborhoods and it will be around for the entire morning commute, with clouds and mist at the bay and mid-60's. mostly sunny to noon and 68. grab a coat this evening. inland valleys for 12 hours we have fog through the morning especially in the northbound bay with clouds in the east bay valley and sunny everywhere by noon, and nearly hot at 88 at 4:00, and it will be pleasant and upper 70's dug the evening hours and clouds and mist for the better part of the morning at the coast. new detail on students streaking at palo alto high school, the principal now is sending a stern warning to students, and abc7 news report joins us from the campus. matt?

>> students have a streak week at the end of the school year but yesterday two seniors undress asked ran through campus on the first day of campus and the pins pal is upset. it has never happened on the first day of campus in six years and wants to enthe unsafe and educationally disruptive tradition. she said when students run through campus without clothing in the spit of fun they create a hostile work environment if students and unsafe environment for students. the principal says the consequences of streaking have future been clear in the past so to be clear the consequences from this point include suspension from school and a conference with the appeal -- palo alto resource officer and is asking parents to speak to their children and wants to channel their energies into a more positive direction. the scramble is on for commuters

see what the temperatures are like today. >> the consumer products safety commission is working on new safety standards for those detergent pods following the death of a baby in florida. the seven-month-old boy died after swallowing a candy colored packet. the packets are on the left. and the candy is on the right. and it looks similar. consumer groups have called for safety changes for a year. and the packaging was redesigned. a major recall affecting 29 different pet foods, with the products are pulled because of concerns it could be contaminated with salmonella. they include iams cat and dog food but no illnesses have been reported. we have the recalled products listed on abc7news.com. >> federal investigators will know today if they can retrieve

any usable information from the flight data recorders belonging to the ups cargo plane that crashed near birmingham, alabama. the photos show investigators recovering the so-called black boxes yesterday and are now in washington, dc, for compassion. the ups cargo plan crashed on wednesday half a mile north of the runway and the pilot and co-pilot were killed. there was no distress call before the crash. >> trading is underway on wall street in 15 minutes a day after concern of slow sales at the biggest retailer led to a big drop on the dow. the dow closed down 225 points at 15,112 the biggest loss in two months. analysts say disappointing wal-mart sales was largely to blame. we wal-mart sales are considered an indication of how consumers feel about the economy. we will check with jane king at the new york stock exchange to see how the dow is doing this

how it looks wet on the deck and some of the mist is moving on to the deck and forming a slickness there so that could be what contributed in the sunol grade to the accident. you will run into the mist in the higher elevations. slightly cooler but sunny. tonight will not be so humid and we have a warm spike on sunday, the warmest day in the forecast with a roller coaster the next 72 hours. today, 80 in san jose and mid-to-upper 70's for most of santa clara valley and los gatos and gilroy, low-to-mid 80's and 80 in santa cruz and sunshine and millbrae is 72 and upper 80's for the rest of the peninsula and low-to-mid 60's along the coast to downtown san francisco and south san francisco at 68 and sausalito is 70 but through the north bay valley low-to-mid 80's and 86 in

friday. we have had traffic problems on 680 most of the morning. leyla gulen, that is going on? >> i can show you all the backup is causing a mess on the sunol grade and this happened early this morning, northbound 680 a big rig overturned carrying 66,000 pounds of mail. all lanes are blocked off and we are tracking our app telling us that the center dividing is getting by and traffic is inching forward. stay away from the area. if you are coming from fremont use mission boulevard to reconnect to highway 84 but as we take a look at the rest of the drive you can see how it is causing bumper-to-bumper traffic southbound out of dublin and folks are trying to take side streets and southbound 680, this is foothill road you can see one lane is completely bumper to

bumper with fog possibly a factor in the accident. mike nicco will tell us about that. >> thank you very much. we have been tracking fog and mist through the morning and golden gate bridge has been hook wet for the better part of the morning. three miles is our visibility in novato and santa rosa where we see the most epb and flow. half mile at half moon bay and we are see the visibility reduced around the bay shoreline and one hour and two minute flight arrival delays in sfo. next 12 hours around the bay, clouds and mist and mid-60's for the morning commute, and 68 at noon with sunny conditions and mild and sunny and 76 by 4:00, grab a coat, mid-60's by 7:00 with the clouds returning from the coast. inland, in the north bay, 61 and sunny at 78 by noon and 88 nearly humid and back to 80 by 4:00 and at the coast we have clouds and mist and drizzle for

the better part of the morning. >> commuters are planning their labor day weekend with an added complication now they know the bay bridge is closed for five days to accommodate the opening of the new eastern span. amy hollyfield is in emeryville with the details. amy? >> we have been talking to people would live on this side of the bay and they know it will be a hardship for a couple of days but some are okay with it. we have a picture of all the people this will impact two weeks from today you are using that bridge today it will not be an option in two weeks. they are closing the old president reagan to shift lanes to the new bridge. for five days, both briggs will be closed and two of the days are weekdays, work week days, not holidays and that will impact people who have to get to work. people say they are starting to make alternate plans. >> i need to go around to san

mateo bridge. i use that, too. i am okay with that. >> he says he okay because he thinks a new bridge is good for the bay area although some bolts are broken and they will not be fixed when they open but a committee has decided the new bridge is better than the old bridge so they decided to go away and clear the opening of the bridge with a temporary fix in place and decided it is going to be safe to drive. they will on the bridge, we will be driving on it while they put the permanent fix in place. new bridge opening, a big day. before the big day do plan for life without a bridge starting open wednesday at 8:00 p.m. on august 28, and that is just before the labor day holiday and it will open after labor day on tuesday, september 3.
