east bay and a "spare the air" day. you can see all that haze there from our camera showing you mt. diablo. high fire warnings are in effect beginning testimony. meteorologist leigh glaser is here now tracking the changes on live doppler 7hd. >> leigh: you're exactly right. temperatures today, especially inland, close to 100 degrees. let's get to live doppler 7hd. check out that counterclockwise spin right along the coast, south of san francisco, near santa barbara. you can see the subtropical moisture from southern california to the spine of the sierra. this is going to bring khans of thunderstorm -- a chance of thunderstorms for the next few days. south lake, getting ready to get hit with moderate rain. and the dry lightning, the possibility of the dry

lightning, has prompted a red-flag warning for much of the bay area tonight through wednesday. we're talking dry lightning, thunderstorms, and also the chance of some gusty winds in those thunderstorms. i'll let you know just when you can expect most of this wild weather, coming up a little later. >> thank you, leigh. developing news. our increased fire danger is making a bad wildfire season even worse. cal fire said more than 5,000 firefighters are currently on the frontlines of ten major wildfires, including this one. 1850 acres burning in butte county just south of chico. 700 distributing tours are threatened. evacuations are in effect. the fire is 20% contained. today ac transit union member are telling the negotiating committee to get back to work. members soundly rejected a tentative agreement during a vote yesterday. that agreement was reached

earlier this month just an hour before a strike was scheduled. members turned it down by more than a two to one margin. the negotiating committee will meet soon to review its next step. the person of interest in the death of federal investigator sandra coke is speaking for the first time from behind jail walls. we're live at the santa rita jail what if this career criminal is saying. reporter: good evening to you. randy alana spoke excusesively with the bay area news group. he said me and sandra coke were in a loving relationship. her family says none of that is true. >> randy alana remains a suspect in the disappears of sandra coke. he is in jail or charges of not charging his gps, resisting arrest and having contact with

coke. alana has a long and violent criminal history. he even had a stay-away order to keep him from seeing coke but he said the two were in a relationship and, quote, we recently talk about getting married. coke's family denies the two had any involvement since they dated more than 20 years ago. her sister, tanya, released a statement that reads in part: he was the last person seen with my sister, but claims he has nothing to do with her disappearance and killing. why would we or anyone else believe what he has to say? but allan a na claims when we wasn't in jail over the course of the last year, he was living with coke, sharing her north oakland home. when i showed his photo to neighbors neighbors neighbors who didn't want to go on camera, other few said they had seen alana on their street. >> see him right there. no doubt. that's him. and it's kind of bad. real bad. >> did see him walking to the store and back, but he never

looked in my direction. >> the manager of the market and liquor store tells me both alana and coke were regular customers of his bus doesn't remember seeing them together. authorities si she was with alana the night she vanished. a'll man maintenances he had nothing to do with the disappearance and says, i'm being treated like a suspect. >> he is being held without bail for the parole violation. the only charge against him. the'll hold him for 180 days. six months, he'll be released if no other charges are filed. >> it's been a violent weekend in oakland, where three people have been killed, eight wounded, and a number of shootings. most recent happened just before 10:00 last night on macarthur boulevard and 73rd of newsom officers found a man and a woman

shot inside a car. she died of her injuries. the man was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive. a four-year-old child suffered minor injuries after being hit by shattered glass. the suggest shoulding occurred in downtown oakland after an attempted burglary at 18th and telegraph avenue. four people were wounded, at least one person from a group of four, went after the burglar and retrieved the stolen items, and two people died friday night and a shooting on 105th avenue, two others were wounded in all those cases police say they have made to arrests. a wild police pursuit in sonoma county ends with man being charged with assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer just before 1:00 this morning. a sheriffs deputy attachmented to stop a driver on highway 12. he kept going and there was a chase in the stoney point splays parking lot. officers say the driver crashed into a sheriff's vehicle then

backed into another, hitting he driver's side door just as the deputy was getting out. jose man well -- manwell was arrested after they broke a window to get him out of his car. the say he was extremely intoxicated. >> a pickup drove drew the -- through the front of a home in pete lumina at 2:00 this morning. the search isphone for the driver who ran away after the crash. an elderly woman was sleeping inside the house at the time. >> where she was sleeping was in the back of the house, the bedroom, and the truck basically went through the front door. >> what a rude wakeup call. you saw her walking. she was not hurt. pg&e crews are shutting off gas service to the home and it will be red-tagged tomorrow. >> as of today san francisco firefighters may no longer wear helmet cameras, a decision already raising criticism.

the chief made the call after video from last month's asiana airlines flight became public. footage shows a fire truck running over the 16-year-old. she said her decision is grounded in privacy concerns for both victims and firefighters, but critics are questioning the timing of the chief's decision because that video me a prove department liability in the teenager's death. >> firefighters in the cop extra costa county what the community's input about the future of fire service. due to a budget shortfall the county fire protection district has destaffed seven engine companies since 2011. a partial tax to help fund the district failed last november. now a study is being done to find the best way to fund and provide fire protection in the area. the first of three town hall meetings is vote for tomorrow. it will be held at the pittsburg community library on power avenue at 6:30 tomorrow night.

>> it's that time of year again. school starts tomorrow for thousands of children in the bay area. the first full week of school for students in the san jose unified school district. they return to class last wednesday. classes in the oakland unified district begin august 26th and the first day of classes for public school students in san francisco is tomorrow. to protect children, san francisco police will have extra patrols near schools over the next two days. officers will be targeting drivers who violate the 15-miles-an-hour speed limit for school zones. enforcement officers will focus on elementary schools. with operations scheduled between 7:00 and 9:00 in the morning and 1:30 and 3:30 in the

inspiring stories of children attending camp arroya. and learn how the taylor family foundation is helping change their lives. there is a mixed bag with the weather in the bay area. here's our meteorologist leigh glaser with all the details. >> leigh: we'll try to put this together for you. pretty simple forecast. it does include quite a bit of instability around the bay area. live doppler 7hd showing you the counterclockwise spin as the low sets up off the coast, and that's the big player in the next two or three days in terms of the forecast. the high sierra right now picking up isolated thunderstorms. south lake tahoe, moving in your direction, and blue canyon, but i want to show you the wide screen. here's the low, the counterclockwise spin, a little convection right there. and then check out the

subtropical moisture feeding north toward our area, and as we get into tuesday and wednesday, all of this will slide a little closer to us. so that's why we have a chance of isolated thunderstorms in the forecast. we'll get to that in a moment. today it has been the heat. up 19 degrees today in livermore. up 11 in novato. san francisco international, up eight. le san jose, a few high clouds overhead there but check out the numbers. 87. los gatos, 891. 70 in san francisco. from mt. tam you can see fog moving in and the high pressure bringing sinking air. so santa rosa, 94. 91 in novato. 100 in livermore. here is a look at the forecast highlights. and pay close attention. a slight chance of a little bit of thunder activity late tonight, overnight hours. red-flag warning begins tomorrow

and for much of the bay area. chance of thunderstorms through at least wednesday. the lows tonight, very balmy, very mild, mid-60s inland and mid-to-upper 50s near the close. you can see the spin as the low sits here and just rotating the subtropical moisture back from the east, back to the west, and that's why we think that we will see some activity here in the next 24 hours or so. here's the low and you can see all of that moisture just rotating back. this low is going to sit there for at least the next couple of days. and then it starts to move more than likely monday night and tuesday. that's really our best chance of seeing some activity. go ahead and put our forecast animation by 7:00 tomorrow morning, we have clouds starting to thicken up, and tomorrow it will be late tomorrow evening -- this is 8:00. look at the moisture starting to feed in across the bay area. 10:00, still seeing spotty showers, 2:00 a.m. tuesday morning, south bay, gilroy,

should be seeing activity. and about 1:00 tuesday afternoon, that is when we'll start to see some activity in the north bay as well. red flag warning tonight through wednesday, thunderstorm and the possibility of dry lightning that could start fires. the highs tomorrow will come down. 85, san jose. thickening clouds on the peninsula. san francisco 70. forth bay, mainly mid-to-upper 80s. 100 expected in ukiah. hayward, 80. oakland, warm to hot in east bay, and may trigger a few isolated thunderstorms tomorrow afternoon. brentwood, 95, 90 for concord. the seven day forecast, the best chance of seeing activity will be monday night and tuesday so the lightning strikes will be with us and then we'll start to clear up a bit thursday and friday and cool down as well. >> carolyn: thank you, leigh. let's go over to rick quan who is in for mike shumann with
