good morning and thank you for joining us at 5:00. i'm in for kristen. >> i'm eric thomas. first up, a check on the weather. that red flag fire danger continues today, mike. >> absolutely. here's an update. thank you very much. yeah, all the areas in red, the western slope, the northern mountains, even our higher elevations until 11:00, the santa cruz mountains and the diablo range in the east bay hill until 5:00 tomorrow afternoon. the north bay, so you can see the threat will be moving north as we head through the day. here's mendocino county. you see cloverdale. that's where our best radar returns are popping up. as you go back in time, the last six hours nearly sa,000 lightning strikes around the bay area. and also out over the ocean.

in fact, we have video to show you. here's video from our emeryville camera. high-definition emeryville camera with san francisco in the background. can you see the lightning strikes. look how -- yeah, isn't that gorgeous? they're just natural beauty to me in what you're watching there. absolutely love it. you can see the multiple strikes c that lasted for about four hours last night. let's get a check on the morning traffic. i'd love to sit here and watch this, but we need to move on. >> we've had a sig alert. this accident actually happened just about ten after 4:00. it's involving two vehicles. and one is overturned with parties trapped and major injuries involved as well. this is shutting down 880 in the northbound direction right at 280. so traffic is being diverted off of highway 17. and we are already starting to see a buildup of traffic past highway 85. and into parkmoor. we'll keep you updated.

now coming away from highway 4 along i-80 westbound to the split, you can see traffic is moving well. top speeds, as you continue down through the maze, 15 minutes will get you there. everything looking clear. quick live look outside. here's the bay bridge toll plaza. looks like traffic is empty as you make it into the tolls. eric? alma? >> thank you. 5:02. as mike mentioned, it's shaping up to be another day of high fire danger in the area. last night reports of dry lightning kept firefighters and local residents on edge. abc 7 news reporter amy hollyfield is live in sausalito with more. amy? >> reporter: eric, we're getting a break in the action now, but check out what we saw last night. more video to show you of lightning strikes. it was an impressive show over the bay area. we captured strikes from the peninsula and the east bay. it was a rare bay area show in august. a dry time of year. so while you may have enjoyed the show, firefighters tell us they were on the edge of their seat, hoping it wouldn't spark a

including one in kern county. the fast-moving shirley fire is burning in the sequoia national forest about 60 miles northeast of bakersfield. it's burned 500 acres, and voluntary evacuation notices for about 400 homes have been issued since it broke out sunday night. firefighters have run into challenges fighting the fire since many resources have been deployed to other wildfires in the state. residents in butte county are being allowed to return to their homes this morning as firefighters get a handle on a wildfire burning south of chico. 2,000 acres have burned since the swede fire started friday. one home has been destroyed along with several other buildings. that fire is now 45% contained. a wildfire has shut down a main entrance into yosemite national park. state route 120 near groveland is off limits to drivers going in and out of yosemite. the 800-acre fire has burned several structures and forced campground evacuations. authorities say to use highway 140 as an alternative to getting

into the park. 5:04. san jose police are investigating a triple shooting. it happened shortly after 10:00 last night at a restaurant. police say the shooter fired from outside through the window. there were about 15 people inside at the time. three people were hit. one man was killed. the other two are expected to survive. homicide investigators are still on the scene, and abc 7 news reporter matt keller will have more in a live report coming up in the next half hour. crime in san jose will be one of the challenges facing former city council member cindy chavez who will be sworn in on the board of supervisors today. chavez clinched the district 2 supervisor spot after capturing 55% of the vote in july's runoff elections. chavez replaced a disgraced former supervisor george who left office in march. he was convicted on corruption charges in june. the chp is warning drivers in santa cruz county about a spike in car thefts and burglaries. investigators say thieves are

targeting unlocked cars in the pleasure point and opal cliff areas. cars with keys left in the ignition have been stolen. these have also taken cell phones, credit cards and other valuables. chp is reminding drivers to lock their cars. new this morning the san francisco fire department is reconsidering its decision to ban helmet cams for its firefighters. the ban has been in place since 2009 when it got new life when video from a firefighter's helmet at the asiana crash site resurfaced over the weekend. the footage showed the runway right after the crash when a survivor covered in flame retardant foam was hit by a fire truck. the policy prohibits firefighters from recording emergencies without advanced approval from the chief. though fire officials cite privacy concerns, they say the footage has been useful to its investigation, and it will consider making changes to the policy. officials in the north bay are warning of a nationwide rip-off targeting secret shoppers. the con artists claim to be associated with the research

company secret shopper which is a legitimate business that pays customers to go to stores and evaluate the service. they contacted two napa county residents, sent them large cashier's checks and told them to return $1,700 through western union. the victims thought something was wrong so they contacted authorities. marine biologists have buried a 42-foot whale after they were unable to save it. it washed ashore barely breathing yesterday morning. a group of people tried to get the endangered fin whale back into the water, but it wouldn't budge. marine biologists say he was barely breathing and had scratches on its belly. they formed a necropsy to figure out what cause it had to beach itself. the lead builder for the 49ers new stadium in santa clara says the project is more than halfway done. crews spent last year putting up the tower, concrete and steel shell of the stadium. the san jose mercury news reports the head of construction says the seats, scoreboard and

even the playing field will start going in during the next few months. and the interior from the concessions stands to the bathrooms and locker rooms is already taking shape. the new stadium is expected to be completed by the end of next june. that's more than a month before the preseason starts. it will leave time for concerts or other events to be scheduled before the niners open the to 14 season. 5:08. we've seen incredible lightning shots out there. we're not out of the woods. >> we certainly aren't. mike is here with the latest on our weather. >> yeah, all is quiet right now. all the storms over the ocean and moving away from us right now. temperatures are running a little milder than they were yesterday. a lot of low to mid-60s around the bayshore. 63 at san jose. san carlos and los gatos at 64. 70 in antioch. 59 santa rosa. san francisco, 58. half moon bay, 57. look once we get past this threat. temperatures go up a little bit as we look at the week ahead for

livermore and then drop significantly saturday, sunday and monday. so it's going to feel maybe a little more like fall this weekend than earlier in the week. here's a look from our roof cam. you see how quiet it was. it would be nice if we were tracking lightning right now positive show you, just to show you, but it's not happening. so we're just going to deal with low clouds and a little bit of fog. the clouds are seen a little lower this morning so you could drive up into them. a little mist is possible for the morning commute. partly cloudy by noon. 66 to 76. isolated. very isolated chance. even less of a chance than we had yesterday of storms, but it's still out there and so is the fire danger. that's your day planner for the next 12 hours. how about your commute? the roads are pretty dry. we do have one sig alert in san jose. i'll get to that in just a moment. as we take you right into the east bay over highway 4, we do have construction crews out there that will be there until

noon today. as you continue in the westbound direction out of antioch towards pittsburgh, you can see some yellow there. that's indicating volume building. but you're still at 53 miles per hour which really isn't too bad. now as we take you into san jose, this is where we have the sig alert that's blocking all lanes. and it appears that the sig alert should wrap up at about 5:30. so we are looking at pretty heavy conditions both in the north and the southbound direction. traffic is being detoured off of highway 17. and here's a quick look at drive time traffic. 101 southbound from san francisco to the airport, just ten minutes, 880 northbound. of course, 13 minutes. and 101 if you need to come up from highway 85 to the san jose airport, that is also moving along at top speeds. alma? eric? >> thank you. it's now 5:10. >> the housing bubble may be inflating again. the bloomberg business report is next. also like a page out of a spy novel, the radical actions, the newspaper that broke the nsa surveillance program took to keep sensitive documents from chinese spies. plus, the new furry addition

to the obama white house. first here's this morning's "tech bytes." >> in today's "tech bytes," apple is looking to strike gold with its new iphone. several tech news websites are reporting the new iphone set to be announced september soth will come in white, black and gold. and samsung is coming out with something big, and we mean big. the galaxy mega is a smartphone that doubles as a tablet with a screen with 6.3 inches. the professional networking site launched university pages to help students connect with schools. the site also lowered the minimum joining age to 14 so students can start sizing up colleges in their freshman year of high school

5:14. welcome back. the man who died in a shootout with the fbi after kidnapping a 16-year-old girl and murdering her mother and brother was named a member of the victim's family as his life insurance beneficiary. james dimaggio left $112,000 to the grandmother of hannah anderson. authorities think this may have been for the benefit of anderson. dimaggio lived with the grandmother for about two years. hannah anderson is still recovering from her ordeal. the editor of britain's daily newspaper "the guardian" says british agents destroyed hard drives to keep secrets

provided by nsa leaker edward snowden away from chinese spies. the editor made the claim in an opinion piece published yesterday on "the guardian's" website. he says gchq came to his office and forced the newspaper to destroy material leaked by snowden. the editor calls the move pointless, saying "the guardian's" investigative work will continue. linkedin is now welcoming career-oriented teens. and travelers can expect a lot more traffic on the roads this weekend. here's ellen with this morning's bloomberg business report. >> reporter: good morning. expect heavier traffic for the labor day holiday. aaa predicting more than 29 million people will hit the open road that weekend. those flying expected to rise as well with the total number traveling more than 34 million, the most since 2008. meantime, the faa has invested $40 billion in the so-called next-gen air traffic control system aimed at reducing

too. >> yes. >> but it's going to add to the fire danger, unfortunately. >> yeah, the warmness will help, too, because you get the buoyancy of the air starting to rise naturally. nice to see both of you this morning. good morning to you. here's a live at live doppler 7 hd. hopefully that makes you go whew, no storms to deal with h no wet streets. a little fog but the thickest fog right now along the coast. let's take a big picture and go back 12 hours. and look at all that lightning. nonstop. look at that. that is 12 hours worth of lightning. more than 15,000 bolts over the ocean. and that was just from 10:00 to 2:00. you can see how potent the storm was when it developed. we still have that threat. let's talk about the fire danger. can't stress this enough. the santa cruz mountains, diablo range. the north bay until 5:00 tomorrow afternoon. so we're definitely going to see a shift northward in the storm threat over the next 24 hours.

right now looking from emeryville, you see the low clouds hanging over the bay. notice the visibility in emeryville. it's okay. it's not like you can't see two feet in front of you like we would expect with fog. so our forecast, smaller chance of storms today and tomorrow. high fire danger continues with that threat. and i've got some cooler highs this weekend after it kind of feels normal thursday and friday. we're going to pull back those temperatures with an on-shore breeze. start down in the south bay, milpitas, 81. all the way up to about 90 in gilroy. down to santa cruz, about 74 with partially sunny conditions. mid to upper 70s millbrae and san mateo. we'll have mild mid-60s out at the coast today. upper 60s to low 70s for downtown, south san francisco. sausalito, mid-70s there to about 80 in novato. so the thicker clouds keeping you a little cooler in the bay. mid to upper 70s with

dou leandro. upper 80s to low 90s. tonight's temperatures about like this morning's maybe more 50s. mid-50s in the north bay to possibly 62, the warm spot in san jose. here's a look at the area of low pressure spinning off the coast with that counterclockwise flow. it's going to continue to bring moisture our way. but the waves are significantly weaker. so while we have a chance of a stray storm today, it's less than yesterday. and the best chance as we head towards wednesday is in the north bay. and especially up in the sierra. here's a look at your accuweather seven-day forecast. temperature will be one to two degrees cooler tomorrow. thursday's highs about the same as today. friday we'll warm up a couple degrees. you see that cooler breeze for saturday, sunday and monday. have a good one. here's layla. >> trying to wrap this sig alert up in san jose. still it is blocking all lanes right at 280. this is involving two vehicles one of which had overturned. this is in a construction zone as well. lots of projects happening right in this particular vicinity

5:23 this tuesday morning. here are seven things you need to know today. and number one, the threat of thunderstorms and the high fire danger that comes with it. i'll give you an update on how much longer that will last in your accuweather seven-day forecast. number two, lightning strikes around the bay area. almost 15,000 lightning strikes were recorded overnight. some of the most spectacular lightning could be seen in san mateo and san bruno. number three, fire officials are warning lightning strikes could pose an increased fire danger to the bay area. homeowners are being advised to

reduce their risk by getting fire ready by clearing heavy vegetation from around their homes and keeping adequate defensible space on their property. number four, one person died overnight after a shooting at a san jose restaurant and bar. police say someone fired into the restaurant at around 10:00 last night. no word who who might have been behind the shooting or a motive. number five, the san francisco fire department will reevaluate its policy against cameras on firefighters' helmets. video was released by a firefighter over the weekend, violating the department's four-year-old ban. officials say video has been helpful in their investigation. number six, a massive fire continues to burn at a new jersey metal recycling plant. it broke out late last night in jersey city, and it's been raging foremore than nine hours now. crews are using cranes to move piles of scrap metal out of the way to clear space for firefighters. and number seven, here's a look behind me at san jose. 280 coming away from 17.

on 17 right at 880 that we have a sig alert blocking all lanes. all the details coming up in my next report. 5:25. efforts are under way to repeal california's new law meant to protect transgender students. it allows transgender students to use restrooms and locker rooms of the gender they identify with. one republican says he's pulled his 13-year-old son from the school because of the law. tim donnelly says his son isn't comfortable with being in a locker room or restroom with somebody of the opposite sex. opponents of the transgender law are gathering signatures for a statewide referendum to overturn it. a federal court says state authorities can begin force feeding inmates who are taking part in a hunger strike. 129 prisoners are currently refusing most meals in protest against solitary confinement in state prisons. the inmates are eating one partial meal a day. prison doctors want the authority to step in if that changes. actor dick van dyke was rescued from his car after it

burst into flames. the 87-year-old's jaguar caught on fire on highway 101 in los angeles yesterday afternoon. an off-duty firefighter driving by saw van dyke slumped at the wheel. the firefighter pulled over, grabbed him and pulled him to safety. van dyke said he was not actually hurt. he was just trying to phone the dmv. the royal family has released the first official pictures of prince george and his parents, prince william and the duchess of cambridge. and here they are. the royal couple holding prince george now almost a month old. they were taken by kate's father, michael middleton. the news continues at 5:30 with the day's top stories. >> including the memorial service taking place today for the father and son murdered in the east bay. and activists camped out for a month to protest the closure of berkeley's historic post office. but this morning they're no longer there. what led them to leave.

good tuesday morning, everybody. it's 5:29. thank you so much for being here with us. i'm eric thomas. >> and i'm alma in for kristin. it's time to get a check on weather. >> time for an update. up in mendocino county around ft. bragg and all this is moving to the west away from us. the storms from last night, here's san francisco. let's go all the way down about 150 miles to our southwest. that's where you're seeing the storms with the lightning right now. in fact, about 128 strikes over the last hour. back here at home, over the last six hours, we saw lightning move through. and it rolls right off into the ocean. and we had about 15,000 strikes

over the ocean between, say, about 10:00 and 2:00. one small chunk of energy coming at us that could reproduce this. look at that. here's a look from our san mateo bridge cam. you see the lightning strikes in the upper left portion of your screen. the big concern with these lightning strikes today and tomorrow, the high fire danger they bring. in fact, i'll show you the high fire danger and how long i expect it to last in your neighborhood coming up in the next weather. let's get a check of your traffic with layla. >> and we do have an update on the sig alert. crews are still going to need an additional half hour. northbound 880 right at 280 shut down due to a two-car crash one of which an overturned. major injuries involved here. another 30 minutes. 6:00 we're expecting this to reopen. use detours. cars are trying to drive along the shoulders. you're not really supposed to be doing that. so take the surface streets instead. as you head into vakava, a car

was crashing into a couple of vehicles out there. everything's been pushed over to the shoulder. let's take a quick look outside, and here's the san mateo bridge. if you're coming towards the peninsula from hayward into foster city, a few extra cars up to the high rise, still at top speeds. no accidents reported as you make your drive farther in a westbound direction. over to you. with thousands of lightning strikes overnight, the concern is heightened that those strikes could spark quickly moving fires, as mike mentioned. we are still under a red flag warning. abc 7 news reporter amy hollyfield is live in sausalito with more. >> reporter: there is a potential for more strikes. we are here in sausalito keeping an eye out for more lightning. take a look at what we saw last night. we captured some strikes over the peninsula and in the east bay. they were definitely cool to watch, but nerve-racking for firefighters who were very worried the lightning could spark wildfires. the fuel here in the area is very dry right now. fortunately the majority of the strikes happened over water.

photographer zoom in here to the restaurant. now bullets went through their front windows and wall. police say it appears the shooter fired into the restaurant from the parking lot. >> there were quite a few patrons eating a meal when this happened. >> reporter: police say about 15 people made up of patrons and employees when officers arrived. three people were hit by bullets, taken to the hospital. i'm told one man died around 2:00 a.m. the two others were shot and were able to talk with investigators. police are still trying to figure out how many shooters were involved and also the motive behind the shooting. no one has been arrested. police say they're reviewing some of the surveillance video now. the crime scene van is here as well as investigators continue their investigation into shooting more than seven hours after it took place. live in san jose, matt keller, abc 7 news. new this morning, berkeley police have moved in to clear

out a campsite. officers asked everyone to leave shortly before midnight and made no arrests. activists had been there nearly a month trying to stop it from being sold to a private developer. the postal regulatory commission says it will consider an appeal submitted by mayor tom bates. the building is listed on the national register of historic places. postal commissioners have until late november to decide the building's fate. a massive fire is burning at a new jersey metal recycling plant. it broke out late last night in jersey city and has been raging at more than nine hours. fire crews are working hard to get it under control. but the smoke can be seen for miles. crews and cranes are trying to move piles of scrap metal out of the way. >> it's to help firefighters. and the plant recycles 4,000 tons of scrap each day. funeral services will be held for a man and his son.

they were visiting family at a house on gormley avenue when someone shot through a bedroom window just before 3:00 a.m. august 7th. family members say the two were from frez msno and were in townr a funeral for a relative. oakland police credit witnesses coming forward for the arrest of a man police say shot four people on saturday. police say the man stole items from a car belonging to a hairstylist. witnesses chased him down and got the items back. police say ward then went back to the hair salon where the stylist worked and opened fire. tips left police officers to ward. all four are expected to be okay. this morning deliberations are expected to continue in the marin county trial of an accused serial killer blamed in the deaths of four women. in closing statements, 79-year-old joseph naso argued prosecutors did not prove he was capable of killing four california women. naso is acting as his own attorney. at the end of his statement, he

had a letter slipped to our i-team. it details who he says are other possible suspects in at least one of the murders. happening today, a former special education teacher in antioch accused of abusing her autistic students is due back in court. 55-year-old teresa allen cullboy pleaded not guilty. she told a judge she did not physically abuse her students as prosecutors allege. prosecutors contend that she abused six students all between the ages of 5 and 7 including some who are nonverbal. cullboy resigned after parents reported her to police. she is under house arrest. the bay bridge is getting ready to shut down next wednesday. it will close for five days and drivers will get their first trip across the new eastern span when it reopens tuesday, september 3rd. the support system needed to open the new span was installed over the weekend. crews will start -- will still have to work on connecting the

new span to the island and take care of things like lane striping. caltrans is going to provide more details today on what crews will do when the bridge is closed over the labor day holiday weekend. now, b.a.r.t. says it will start providing 24-hour service two days before the bay bridge closure. trains will run every hour at the embarcardero, powell street, 24th street mission and sfo along with several other locations. a.c. transit is offering extra bus service to some east bay b.a.r.t. stations to help people catch trains. and san francisco bay ferry is expanding its schedule. you'll find the full schedule. just click on see it on tv. 5:37. mike's been showing you impressive pictures of how many lightning strikes we had last night. >> yeah, about 15,000. most of them were over the ocean. we did have a few that people have captured. thank you very much for sending those to us. of some of the stuff that happened over land. here's a look at the red. that's the area that's under a high fire danger.

the western slope, the northern mountains, north california mountains and even here some of our higher terrain. notice what's not in it. the santa clara valley, our coastline, the bayshore line and san francisco. 11:00 today, that's when we have our high fire danger end at least for the santa includes mountains and the east bay hills, valleys, diablo range. but up in the north bay, it continues until wednesday at 5:00. let's take a look at what's happening today. your day planner for the next 12 hours. foggy, low clouds this morning. we'll have sunshine by noon and cloud cover out there. there will be a mixture of both. temperatures in the 60s at the coast. low to mid-70s for the rest of us. there's a stray storm possible 4:00. all the way through the evening hours. but it won't be as widespread as yesterday. so 86 at 4:00. that's our inland temperature. 76 around the bay and 64 at the coast. by 7:00, 62 at the coast. 70 around the bay and 78 inland. it's back to school today in

petaluma. check out your temperature there as we head back to school. 70 at 7:30, it's going to be 58 degrees by 3:30, though, it's going to be around 79 with a slight chance of a thunderstorm. in fact, our best chances will probably be in the north bay the next 24 to 36 hours. let's get another check of traffic with leyla. >> a brand-new report of an accident in fremont if you're traveling along auto park mall parkway. it's an injury accident involving a big rig and another vehicle at fremont boulevard. eight fire engines on scene right now. injuries are reported. so you're going to be seeing the intersection of auto mall parkway and fremont parkway shut down at this time. what's also shut down is northbound right at 280 due to an injury accident that happened about ten after 4:00 this morning involving one overturned vehicle. we have major injuries. and it looks like it's going to reopen in about 2 minutes from now. but the sig alert will remain until then.

5:43 on this tuesday morning. lightning is blamed for a massive power outage that left 100,000 customers in the fresno area in the dark. the outage affected residents in fresno to larry and kings counties. authorities say lightning struck striking a substation. power was restored to customers around midnight. another domino has fallen in egypt as the country's military-backed rulers arrested the spiritual leader of the muslim brotherhood today. he was at his hiding place near the former site of a huge sit-in

that supporters of the country's ousted islamist president, mohamed morsi. hundreds of people were killed last week when authorities broke up the sit-in. now there's a growing fear about more tensions with word that jailed ex-president hosni mubarak could soon be set free as he waits for a pretrial. in pakistan, a court indicted former president pervez musharraf in the 2007 assassination of former prime minister benazir bhutto. now, prosecutors have said musharraf failed to properly protect bhutto. a member of musharraf's legal team says the former president and army chief has pleaded not guilty to charges which include murder and conspiracy to commit murder. business is expected to return to normal this morning at the port of oakland following a protest by independent truckers. video from sky 7 hd shows the demonstrators blocking access to the ssa terminals affecting about five berths at the port. truckers are upset about slow

turnaround. it's been the center of recent backlogs that have forced the truckers to idle for hours waiting for their shipments to be unloaded. governor brown says the state's high-speed rail plan is still on track. friday a judge ruled the financing and environmental review process violates the terms of a voter-approved ballot initiative. but brown says the judge's decision leaves room for interpretation. project officials signed a nearly $1 billion contract last week to start work on the first 30 miles of track in the central valley. 4:45. dry lightning strikes, just as mike told us, we'd have, up fortunately we've escaped any big fires. i don't think it will be quite a repeat of what we saw yesterday. yesterday pretty impressive. anytime you get thunder this time of year is impressive when you can get nearly 15,000 lightning strikes which most were over the ocean. still very impressive. good news for the morning commute. a sprinkle or two possible. a little mist as you drive through the lower hanging clouds this morning. and a little bit of fog, but it's mainly out over the coast.

bay valleys. mid to upper 60s at your beaches. mid to upper 70s along the east bayshore. castro valley and union city, around 79. temperatures in the upper 80s to low 90s. not quite as hot and steamy in the east bay valleys. how often do we use steamy? as compared to yesterday. tonight's temperatures most comfortable in santa rosa. most of us in the upper 50s to possibly low 60s. livermore and antioch could be the exception, mid to upper 60s. here's the circulation with the low. still spinning down to our south. but notice upstream, which would be around fresno, and bakersfield, there's no thunderstorms like there were yesterday. so there's no real chunk of energy i can hang my hat on and say, look, this is coming our way. this is when the storms are going to explode like we did yesterday. so with these weaker waves, just an isolated chance today and tomorrow. with that chance moving through. the santa cruz mountains, the north bay, the east bay today. and then that chance moving to the north tomorrow.

dry conditions out there but lightning possible. oakland is hosting a series of eye vents today commemorating next week's 60th anniversary 69 mar anniversary of the march on washingt washington. supporters will also be takie i off on a bus tour to build awareness of racial issues before ending in los angeles on saturday. this year's events will also pay tribute to florida teen trayvon martin who was shot and killed by george zimmerman last year. and the man who helped write the "i have a dream" speech is being honored today. dr. clarence jones will be presented with a hero's award by the san francisco human rights commission. jones says his work and outreach in the civil rights movement has nothing to do with self-promotion. >> but how can i stand silently? what would martin king expect me to do?

road. and now as we take it farther out towards fremont, this is where we have a surface street accident. auto mall parkway at fremont boulevard, that's involving injuries out there. over to you. it's 5:56 now. new numbers from the centers for disease control show that lyme disease is much more common than we thought. officials now believe that up to 300,000 americans are diagnosed with lyme disease each year, ten times more than previously estimated. the cdc has suspected for years that doctors don't report every case, and the numbers were probably higher than the 20,000 to 30,000 officially reported each year. lyme disease is spread by ticks, the symptoms include fever, headache, fatigue and a skin rash. just pick one and stick to it. that's what a pair of researchers from u-mass and rush university are saying about diets. there are so many diet options out there, atkins, south beach, caveman. the researchers say americans should end the pursuit of the ideal diet because research has shown that any difference
