good afternoon, i'm cheryl jennings. >> i'm carolyn johns yochbl a wildfire burning out of control near yosemite spread into the park and threatening more homes. the fire nearly doubled in size since this time yesterday, roughly the size of san jos yai. 4500 homes are in danger. 16 structures have been destroyed since the fire started last saturday. the governor declared a state of emergency to help pay for evacuations and shelters despite efforts of 2000

firefighters it's only 2% contained. big problem they're having a hard time navigating this steep terrain it means air support will be the key to suping -- helping contain the fire this, is video from wednesday, they helped drop water using a black hawk helicopter. >> san ran is among the city being asked to help fight the fire. firefighters geared up for the trip. >> members are what we call volunteers each year they sign up to take training. they all have -- they have gear and go through training and these members are all within the city and county of san francisco, city fire department have volunteered to go on the rigs to assist. >> five rigs are heading to yosemite. 20 personnel will be deployed between five to 10 days.

the fire caused problems from the hetch hetchy water supply system providing water for san francisco. cornell bernard is monitoring that part of the story and live from san francisco. cornell? >> that wildfire making officials nervous. keeping an eye on it, it's creeping closer towards primary drinking water and power supply, hetch hetchy. it's all hands on deck at san francisco's public utilities commission. folks inside of the situation room are monitoring the fire burning 200 miles way from the city. >> it's burning as we speak. it has hetch hetchy provides drinking water to bay area residents. most pipelines are underground. the big concern is ash falling into the reservoir, cloud eyeness levels being monitored

on screens 24-7. for now, levels are safe. it doesn't happen immediately. we'd see the cloudiness increase slowly in hetch hetchy reservoir giving us time to make these estimates to the system so there will be no disruption in service to customers. >> local water supplies can be used as a back up two, out of three power houses have been taken off line to keep firefighters safe. power again rated keeps lights on in san francisco. and keeps muni buses and trains rolling. the city buying power from pg&e until the fire danger has passed n san francisco, abc 7 news. >> the smoke prompting an air quality alert in reno 150 miles from the fire line this, is how it looked. officials say air quality index is in the red. people with respiratory conditions are being told to

rim fire moving northward and eastward up over lake tahoe towards reno so wide spread contribution of the smoke. it does potentially pose a health hazard. we have a wide expanse here where smoke is still spreading until monday, at 12:00 noon. let's take a look at current conditions here. a live view from our camera looking at blue skies over the bay bridge. readings here 61 degrees in san francisco. 65 oakland. 73 redwood city. a live view you can see clouds near the coast and around ocean beach. it's 80 degrees in santa rosa. 77, mid 80s in fairfield and concord. and one more live view at golden gate bridge showing low clouds there. this is a forecast we'll see low clouds and fog becoming

wide spread. partly to mostly sunny skies into afternoon and mild inland but cool at the coast. >> spencer, thank you. following breaking news out of southern california. the mayor of san diego resign add mid allegations of sexual harassment against 18 women. bob filner said he will step down at the end of the month offering an apology but maintained his innocence stating he never harassed anyone. he says he's the victim of a political lynch mob. we'll bring you some of what he had to say coming up at 4:30. >> there is information in the disappearance of 20-month-old daphne webb. the toddler reported missing by her father july 10th. nick smith joins with us more. >> they've been tight lipped about what that new information is, but oakland police department spokesperson

told me it led to2bvcñ us searcn open area of oakland. the search starts in the morning at 8:00 a.m. they're hoping they can uncover clues to find out what happened to daphne. >> so someone knows why wr daphne is. >> the fbi announced reward for information lead together whereabouts has been increased to $20,000. >> we're committed to working with opd and law enforcement partners to bring her home. >> investigators are finalizing plans to search saturday morning and afternoon. police did say equipment will be used for the investigation. they're treating the case both a missing person case and that of a homicide. >> whether the investigation reveals foul play or if there is evidence lead together

location of her still alive. >> john webb told police his daughter disappeared after he left her in this suv with his elderly mother while he made a quick stop inside of this store for a drink. he was arrested the next day but prosecutors declined to file charges and he was released. today, oakland police said john webb remains a person of interest. >> i visited his home today but there was in answer. the memorial at the apartment complex where the little girl lived serves as a reminder the community holds hope she will be found safe and alive. at oakland police headquarters nick smith abc 7 news. >> breaking news to tell you about in san francisco. look at this, city building that houses a transportation agency has been evacuated. folks out on the street because of a kind of chemical irritation witnesses say people came out of the building coughing this afternoon. officials say up to 23 people

tall, weighing 200 pounds with dirty blond hair and a mohawk hair style. we want to give you a look at the new eastern span. bart gearing up to run trains until the new bay bridge is open after labor day. a reminder the bay bridge closure starts in the evening next wednesday, august 28th lasting up to five full days over the long labor day holiday thursday and friday the shut down will include service out of vallejo, oakland and sal ala media. during the weekend vallejo will operate regular service but expanded service from alameda and oakland. officials think they have added any passenger load covered. >> bart strike carried 19,600

amazon has been testing a new wireless network allowing people to contact amazon devices to the internet wirelessly. people familiar with the matter say the test happened in cupertino. also today, apple made a big acquisition in map arena by the company embark, filling tree transit apps. terms of the deal not disclosed. latest purchase of the tech giant tried to improve apple maps app. u.s. stocks closed higher friday, closing its first two day rally in three weeks. bloomberg silicon valley index falling today nearly 2%.

low clouds locally over the bay today. some areas still looks gray but mainly sunny skies. you can see looking westward, the reflection of the sunlight off the bay waters. spotty drizzle near the coast and bay. this pattern will last throughout the weekend. warming continuing to approach seasonal norms but not yet. we're looking at forecast animation at 11:00 this evening. notice low pressure system with attached cold front approaching pacific northwest and helping to inland. tomorrow afternoon, it will be cooler than average because of the affect of the low clouds

and fog near the coast and reenforcement of the cold front sweeping a stae breeze into our direction that. continues into sunday. so we'll see some clearing temperatures remain below average inland. friday, drizzle over the coast. so no matter where you are except maybe far inland you may see some spotty drizzle overnight. lows into mid to upper 50s 76 in san jose tomorrow, highs from low 70s in the area up to mid 70s in mountain view but only upper 50s on the coast in pacifica. downtown mainly a high of 65 tomorrow.

and east bay highs 68 in oakland. 75 in fremont. inland east bay highs into low or low to mid-80s. and here is the accu-weather forecast forecast. that pattern holds sunday may be cooler than tomorrow, we'll warm up monday, tuesday, by mid week, we'll see inland highs back up into upper 80s, closer to the average for this time of the year. it's pleasant can. >> it's all good. >> thank you.

there is a lot of excitement at washington national skoo. a giant panda just given birth. the scene unfolded on the new panda camp showing the mom in labor. my goodness. and if you look you can see the small club on the floor of the cave. >> office officials say it could take up to 10 hours it and only took two. the cub born in 2005 did survive. tiny thing, huh? look closely there. >> abc news has an exclusive look at the only baby panda

a walk is set to get underway within a half hour from this park. about 200 people are expected to take part in the peace walk crisscrossing the city. it's organized by richmond residents set up with violence there. police say it's an effective crime fighting tool. >> in richmond they're territorial so to cross

>> for those of us who live here and drive highway 24 here every day, the project which is on time, on budget is more important to many of us than that bridge to the west. on the new fourth floor. construction is coming along on time. >> made great progress. >> unlike their counter parts contract skbror caltrans won't set in stone an opening date. except to say it will be in late 2013. >> we want to make sure the line at the tunnel is staged that it is approved by the people who need to approve it. it needs to be commissioned. >> whit does open, a fourth floor will bring big relief to commuters living east of the tunnel but drive regularly throughout the hills. >> i come here every day. i'll be excited to see it open

park. the flames have now consumed 105,000 acres, three times the size of san francisco. and containment is just 2%. >> right now, it's just picking up spot fires as we can. and depending if it gets ahead of steam it's probably go lg to burn deeper into the park. >> they are still determined to go. despite their journey here being frustrating. the family didn't know the highway was closed and too late to. >> we returned here and asked if we can stay on the parking lot overnight. and that was okay under that situation. >> camp grounds have been closed since monday when the rim fire raged out
