water and electricity supplies in danger. more than 2800 firefighters are having a hard time getting control of the fire because of rough terrain and tall trees which catch fire far above their reach. the weather is making their effort more difficult. leigh glaser shows us why. >> it was really a hot day out there on the fire lines and a gusty winds, reported gusts to 35 miles per hour in the higher terrain there. we're giving you a good sense of that plume of smoke that's being created by these fires. and it's moving as far north as south lake tahoe. they're reporting very poor air quality. current readings, temperatures in the upper 80s. hot out there. humidity at only 17%. very dry. those winds southwest gust to 30-plus miles per hour. tomorrow not a lot of relief here. 90. those winds will pick up as well. there is a chance of some dry lightning as we head into tuesday night and wednesday,

something they do not need. ama. >> leigh, thank you so much. john alston joins us live from tuolumne county with a look at the fire tonight. >> reporter: this has been one of the nagging trouble spots all afternoon. behind me that road behind me is the road that leads up to berkeley camp. as best we can tell, that is still apparently threatened by the fire that's burning behind me. fire crews apparently were able to save some yurts in the area and they're keeping an eye on some cabins. we don't have any reports of any damage at this point, but the winds have been making matters worse up here in the sierra. like a well-timed bucket brigade, several helicopters tried to snuff out the fire that would not go away. on the western side, fire crews are taking preventive measures to keep the flames from reaching more populated areas. this clearing will help if the fire moves toward twain hart and tuolumne city. >> true survivors here.

we don't know what's going on either, but we know we're safe here. >> reporter: sandy valdez and her husband leave in that area. they decided to leave on their own. >> you just cry and laugh with everybody else. it's sad. you never think you're going to be here in this situation. and when you watch other people on tv that you can't help that are in it, then when it hits home, well, i'll be a volunteer. >> reporter: they loaded up their camper and drove to the camp ground in sonora where the red cross has set up an evacuation here. >> we're much safer here. we check with our friends. they give aus call and let us know how the situation is. today we heard 14 to 26-mile-per-hour winds up there. not good. >> reporter: back live, one of the many fire vex going in and out of this area all day, a lot of them working 24 hour shifts and their work is not done yet.

people stayed at the red cross center, also yosemite, parts of yosemite are burning at this hour, but such a large park and it is open, however, highway 120 still remains closed. live in tuolumne county, john alston, abc 7 news. thank you for the update. our twitter feed@abc 7 news bay area. we've been following a shoot in north oakland that sends two people in the hospital including two children. kira klapper is live with details. >> reporter: ama, a man, a woman, a 12-year-old girl and an 8-year-old are being treated in the hospital for nonlife-threatening injuries. police still need any leads they can get. we have video at the scene. it happened about 2:30 this afternoon at 104th and graffian in east oakland. about eight blocks are still closed off surrounding the shooting scene. police are still in their

preliminary stables of investigating. the lieutenant tells me about a dozen officers were there making sure that everyone else in the neighborhood was safe. they were trying to determine if anyone else was hit by any stray bullets. good news, i'm told about the 12-year-old victim, though. take a listen. >> there's nothing life threatening whatsoever. she is with her mother. everything appears to be okay at this moment. but we want to get other information to find out what happened. >> all four victims are being treated for nonlife threattoning gunshot wounds, but police still have no one in custody. reporting live in oakland, kira klapper, abc 7 news. many questions remain unanswered after two gunmen opened fire on victims at 11th and d streets just after 1:00 this morning. they've released few details about the city's first two homicides of the year. it sits between the b.a.r.t. tracks and railroad tracks belonging to union pacific. one longtime resident says

violence is rare around his neighborhood. >> not that i could ever say don't go here, don't go there. we walk the dog. there's people walking dogs, kids playing in the park. >> no arrests have been made in the case. the alameda county coroner has not released the names of the victims. we have video tonight of the moment the 22-year-old san jose man was shot to death. we won't show you that exact moment, but here is video leading up to it. family members say ramon garcia, a father of five, had gotten into an argument with a man yesterday afternoon with a man near st. james park. you can see garcia get off his bicycle and back up against a car. the gunman chases him down and shoots garcia in the head. his aunt says garcia was trying to turn his life around. >> trying to stay out of trouble, stay out of jail. he said, yeah, i'm going to do good, i'm going to try to do good this time and do it for me and my kids. >> police are setting the

surveillance tape in the hopes of identifying the suspect. authorities are looking for a man who sexually assaulted a jogger on the centennial way trail in san francisco. the woman told police she passed a man walking in the opposite direction when he suddenly turned and grabbeder her from behind. the suspect was last seen heading south on the trail towards san bruno. police are looking for two armed men who robbed a restaurant late last night. officers say just after 11:00, two men armed with handguns entered the back office at the restaurant. they confronted an employee and demanded cash. commerce were unaware a robbery was taking place. the men drove away in a silver colored jeep cherokee. tonight richmond police release pictures of a mail thief they hope you can identify. this man on a bike casually reaches into the mailbox and

covering santa rosa, berkeley, san jose and all the bay area, this is abc 7 news. we're three days and counting until the bay bridge shuts down. it will be closed to traffic for five full days from wednesday through next monday. the bridge will open with its new eastern span on tuesday, september 3rd. transset offering extra bus service to b.a.r.t. stations to help people catch a train to get across the bay during the

area. hd showing you clouds continue to move inland this hour. the storm system that brought the weak cold front i should say that brought parts of the bay area mainly in the north bay a few sprinkles earlier in the day has exited to the north of us. but we're looking at this little eddie that developed near the coast. i do want to show you some smoke plumes from the rim fire. you can clearly see just in the last few frames all that smoke. they're saying that poor air quality right now south lake tahoe reduced visibilities as well as all this is moving from the southwest up to the northeast. so keep that in mind. but yeah, really nice picture for you this evening. here's a look at our highs today. we managed 81 in cloverdale. clear lake, 83. santa rosa 79. livermore 89 degrees. a warm day there. 8 today in morgan hill.

san jose, all eye on you right now. a lot of blue sky. san jose 74, 80 in redwood city. the golden gau en gate bridge, k there. early morning commuters take it easy as you allow extra drive time. livermore you're touching at 76 degrees. partly cloudy overnight with low clouds and fog. pockets of drizzle. a sunny day tomorrow after the morning overcast burns back to the coast. we'll warm things the up a little bit through midweek. tuesday, wednesday looked terrif terrific. coolest locations up in the north bay santa rosa 53 compared to 57 for san francisco as well as livermore and antioch. here was the cold front low pressure and the jet stream just diving over the bay area.

the clouds overnight. and also the high humidity today. all of that has lifted to the north. high pressure to the east. we'll start to build back to the west. in fact, it won't be a hot bubble of air, but it will warm us up tuesday to wednesday. and then as we head through the latter part of our work week, temperatures will cool a little bit. we'll notice those clouds starting to move inland. won't hang around too long. this is 5:00 a.m. tomorrow morning. then look at lunchtime. we'll see some sunshine across much of the bay area. highs tomorrow generally a few degrees warmer. 82 san jose, 80 santa clara on the peninsula look for mid to upper 70s, mid to upper 60s at the coast. 68 for san francisco. north bay will warm things up 86, 80, vallejo, oakland tomorrow 74, 75 for union city and interior east bay. a mild to warm with mid to upper
