>> live from the kgo-tv broadcast center this is abc7 news. >> good morning monday. i am kira klapper. >> first up we check on the monday morning weather forecast. mike? >> we will start off by talking about what is going on with live doppler 7 hd. it is quiet. you can see the cloud cover. we had a little drizzle on the windshield today across the bay area but it did not amount to

much. i didn't need to use the wipers other than to get the dirt off the car. we will look at what is going on today as we zoom down to san francisco. a lot of sunshine by noon inland and around the bay. temperatures near to below average so we will be close. 79 in petaluma to 86 in brentwood inland. from 72 up to 82 in the south bay around the bay and along the coast into san francisco at 62 to 68 degrees. i will show you what is going on in the sierra with plenty of smoke there and the more less defined areas of gray right here, look how big the system is, and it is continuing to put poor air quality in south lake tahoe and yosemite. i wanted to show you how out of control it was this weekend.

>> mike was off-roading defend, is that right? >> right. >> we have clear conditions and as mike was saying go not see wet roads and nothing to be afraid of. we are going to see one problem, though, involving downed power poles that is causing a closure of highway 116 in both directions so detours are in place. if you are living in that area you will see some crews. our drive time traffic from walnut creek to dublin is 13 minutes and southbound from santa rosa to san francisco is under 50 minutes and highway 17 through the santa cruz mountains into los gatos is 23 minutes. 280 away from 17, is quiet and not too many cars, not yet. >> welcome back. more on developing news, berkeley's family camp is in

ruins because of of out-of-control wide fire in yosemite national park with containment only 7 percent. abc7 news reporter cornell bernard has more. >> the fire continues to spread in in size with 2,500 firefighters trying to stop it. look how large the fire has grown since wednesday, over 200 there are monster flames and strong winds that pushed the water into the edge of yosemite national park and 4,500 homes are threatened and thousands evacuated. firefighters have never fought a fire as ferocious as this one. >> the fire gets in the tops of the screen and it is impossible to stop the trees are approximately 100' or 150' feet

tall. it burns to the ground. >> evacuation orders are issued for folks in the area east of highway 108. highway 120 into yosemite national park remains closed. the fire is three miles from the reservoir which provides water to 85 percent of the bay area, and the governor has declared a state of emergency for san francisco to help officials repair damage to enough structure at the dam. >> fire crews are also battling the grove of sequoias with three dozen in the path of the fire, the huge trees are among the evidencest living things on the planet and teams have been assigned to protect them. >> check out this photo from a viewer taken in a flight over the sierra, you can see how thick and high the smoke from the fire is right now. >> stay with us for continuing coverage of the rim fire and we

will update you all morning and bring you major developments with updates on abc7 news come and twitter@abcnewsbayarea. >> the bay bridge in a few more days will be history shut down for five days starting open wednesday night 59 8:00 to prepare for the opening of a new eastern span after labor day with plenty of work to complete. contractors will align both ends of the new span with interstate 80 and crews will install traffic barriers conducting pavement and stripe the new lanes. on the oak side, contractors will finish the westbound lanes from the toll maze to the new bridge before it opened on tuesday, september 3rd and an extra fast track lane was added over the weekend. >> you can see how close the new bay bridge is to opening by checking out caltran's live construction camera on abc7news.com under "see it on tv," with information on how to download the exclusive ways and

the 22-year-old man was gunned down on saturday morning near north 3rd. he gets off his bicycle and leans back against a car. a man runs up to him and shoots him in the head. garcia was a father of five. family member say he and the suspect had been arguing at a park. police are studying the surveillance video in hopes of identifying the shooter. >> walnut creek are looking for two armed men who armed a restaurant on saturday. officers say after 11:00 two membership remain ad with handguns entered the back office of the tank restaurant on broadway and confronted an employee and demanded cash. customers were unaware a robbery was taking place and drove away in a silver colored percent cherokee. authorities are looking for a man who sexually assault add jogger on a trail if south san francisco. the woman told police she passed a man walking in the opposite direction early on friday morning and he suddenly turned and grabbed her from behind. the attacker was last seen

headed south on the trail toward san bruno. >> the new $1 billion arena for the warriors on the waterfront is months behind the original schedule. the san francisco chronicle reports that the cost to repair pier 30 and 32 has increased by up to $50 million and the team could miss the 2017 targeted opening date. representatives with the warriors are down-playing the delays as "routine" for a complex project and maintain the arena will be ready for 2017 soap but the schedule is "tight." >> mike, what did we have? >> we will start by opening the weather window and looking to the south toward the embark day center, and you can see the ferry building and the by bridge, you will run into light drizzle this morning. we will talk about our air quality focusing on how poor it was in the sierra and back at home, because of the sea breeze, we have hardly any pollen out

breaks so hopefully that will be moved out of the lanes and to the shoulder. be cautious and make sure you mind your speeds. we have a buildup of traffic in the usual places and over the a pass, so you can see over my shoulder the red shows heavy backup over the altamont pass. in san jose, this is where we have clear conditions on 101 to 280 and 85 to cupertino, so, clear out there and as we take you back to oakland we had a couple of construction projects northbound and southbound at 880 and that is getting picked up and we are seeing the we red turn to yellow and the yellow to green. >> next time you go into a subway sandwich shop it could smell different. the bloomberg business report is next. >> the new phase of the trial for the army major convicted of killing fellow soldiers is a matter of life or death.

major nidal hasan could be the first active soldier to be executed in 50 years, with sentencing underway today. nidal hasan opened fire on dozens of fires in texas on november 5, 2009. the military jury last week found nidal hasan guilty of murdering 13 people and the same military jury will decide whether he is executed or spends life in prison. >> this remain on, amazon is trying to determine the cause of a problem with the servers that caused instagram and other services to go down yesterday. amazon provides servers to several on-line companies, mostly resolved after a few hours. >> drivers are getting some relief at the pump and take a whiff the next time you enter a subway sandwich shop. >> here is the bloomberg business report. >> pump prices are holding steady and gas is going for an acknowledge of $3.54 for regular

thunderstorms that will roam through the sierra and lightning comes out of this that will create more fire. that is what we worried about and the possibility of brief heavy rain over a fire ravaged area and there is nothing to hold that dirt in and it will turn to mud and it could slide. something to keep an eye on is the worst potential. 75 in milpitas and 80 in santa clara and 85 in los gatos and morgan hill and gilroy mid-to-upper 80's. up the peninsula we have mid-to-upper 70's and millbrae is 70 and mid-60's along the coast today and upper 60's to low 70's in downtown and south san francisco and sausalito and 79 at petaluma and you will be the last one to see sunshine in the north bay and the rest of the valley in the low-to-mid 80's and the coast is 20 degrees cooler, and 73 in berkeley and 74 in oakland and 6, though, in richmond, a cooler spot and as we head into the east bay valley

bridge is 13 minutes from east to west. kira and eric? >> just shy of 5:32. a wildfire continues to rage near yosemite national park and 144,000 acres have burned since the fire began last week of the it is now just 7 percent contained. the fire has destroyed nearly two dozen buildings and berkeley familily camp is destroyed. >> this is the worst fire the firefighters have ever fought burning 2303 square miles, the size of chicago. the rim fire is only 7 percent contained and 2,500 firefighters are on the front line battling the blaze. sunday's strong winds pushed the monster fire closer into the northwest edge of yosemite national park. we getting a first look at fire damage to the family camp owned

by the city of berkeley and you can see the forest service says the camp suffered extensive damage. campers were evacuated on tuesday and firefighters say they did their best to strike and save it. >> the catch was overgrown and there was a lot of summer camp flammable fabric. >> 4,500 structures are affected and an advisory is issued for those we in the area eat -- east of 108. the road into yosemite national park is closed. and another berkeley camp, larry of the the -- lair of the bear is not in the line of fire as reported of the. >> there is a facebook messaging saying the fire has spread to another camp but there is only minor damage.

shell casings and other evidence cover the pavement near 104th avenue yesterday. police say someone opened fire into a crowd of people yesterday afternoon and police closed off an eight-block area searching for the gunmen who got away. all the victims are expected to survive. the two children are eight and 12 years of age. >> union city police are trying to solve that community's first two homicides of 2013, and two men died after being shot at 11th and d streets. police have not released any descriptions of the person or people responsible for the gunfire. >> happening now a search is underway if a missing 81-year-old east bay man considered at risk. the san leandro police department has issued a silver alert for the man who was last seen yesterday morning on brookside drive. sheehan avid walker and walked from san lenadro to the san mateo bridge in the past. he is 5' 4 itch and weighs 150

off of westbound 580 at the 164th street ramp so you are going to be seeing crews out there and c.h.p. is on the scene right now and we do not have delays but we have slowing from castro valley along 238 in the northbound direction southbound side seeing slow-and-go traffic. the drive time traffic 101 headed southbound from san francisco to the airport is 11 minutes on the nimitz, northbound, from 238, into the macarthur maze is 13 minutes and 101 from highway 85 to show airport is under 15 minutes and here is a look at our mass transit and everyone is running on time. it will be san jose, 101, coming away from 880, a few extra cars but everyone is running at top speeds. >> the america's cup showdown is set next and which international team will challenge the united states for san francisco bay?
