this all started around 3:30 when a grassfire quickly spread and caught a house on fire near interstate 80 in the north texas street exit. winds pushed the flames to four other homes around marigold drive. that fire is now out. we go now live to marigold at daphne drive with the latest. cornell? >> firefighters say they do not know how this fire started. the investigation is underway. behind me you can clearly see two homes completely gutted by the fire including the home of one couple who were celebrating a wedding anniversary. >> the thing i remembered the most is when she walked down the aisle with her gown on and she was the most beautiful woman i ever saw in my life. >> they have celebrating their 47th wedding anniversary on the same day their house was gutted by a ferocious fire. >> i called our son and was crying that our house was on fire. he didn't ask questions. he just said mom, i'll be

there. >> sky 7hd shows how intense the blaze was. it began as a grassfire on insister state 80 but quickly jumped the sound wall burning homes. their house went first. >> the palm tree went up like a candle and it started the roof on fire and the fence on fire and there was nothing we can do. >> the delta winds carried the flames to the house next door and then three others. first responders admit they were overwhelmed. >> when the wind starts swirl expght fire -- and the fire creates its own wind the fire is going in different directions. >> they needed help. a few hundred firefighters came as far as napa county to save the neighborhood. >> i just got home as the fire was cresting into the backyard. we watched everything go. >> he was able to salvage pictures and momentos from his airport -- air force career.

firefighters res skyed the family's dog -- rescued the family's dog, rosy, from the fire. >> she was cowered in the backyard. the firefighters came out with her. >> the grays were not so lucky. they lost everything. sadly verna lost her wedding ring. >> there are uh loft things -- a lot of things we lost and will shed tears over and miss, but we still have what we need. >> she says they still have each other. in fair field, cornell bernard, abc7 news. >> here is a look at how quickly the fire consumed one home. about 4:20 this afternoon you can see as the flames start their destructive path through this-house. every 10 minutes a little bit worse. the roof is disappearing until less than an hour later the house is just a shell and a smoldering ruin is all that is left. the fire has now destroyed more than 100 buildings. an update on that in just a few minutes. >> first a bay bridge shutdown and here we go. it is t-minus 21 hours until

the entire span closes. the bridge will close tomorrow night at 8:00. it may not reopen until early in the morning on tuesday. you can see the new eastern span and a live picture we have right here on the left side of your screen. the old one is on right. a lot of people say they will miss the old bay bridge. lisa amin gulezian joins us on treasure island with that story. i will just be happy for one that stays up. i have low expectations. i am hoping for that. >> you know, that is very true. a lot of people have been coming by tonight. they are coming with their families. they are taking photos and they are sharing stories of the bridge as well as the eastern side which they used for so many years. >> i will capture as much as i could and have that historical piece. >> the bay bridge is attracting residents from all over tonight. they have their cameras in hand and they are feeling nostalgic. >> i will miss it. i experienced my first job crossing that bridge.

>> i was a kid when the 1989 earthquake happened. i do have a lot of memories on the bridge. >> the earthquake in 1989 is the reason the section failed and the need for a new eastern span arose. experts say the new section will be safer, earthquake resistant and have a shoulder for drivers to pull on to in case of an emergency. >> i just wanted to go right across the bay bridge for the last time. >> for many here, safety wasn't top of mind. it was more about remembering something so many used and took for granted their entire lives. >> people think of it as sort of the ugly brother of the golden gate bridge. but it is so much larger and utolitarian. >> it will take three years to demolish. it will shutdown at 8:00 p.m. and reopen by 5:00 a.m. there is a possibility that it could reopen earlier, but cal trans warns, don't count on it. >> we don't know how quickly

san ramon high school students were on their way home from a fishing trip when their car crashed. one passenger 17-year-old robert orlando died. his two friends are still in the hospital tonight. they are expected to recover. the accident happened on el capitan where their car slammed into a tree. the boys were to start the fall semester at san ramon high school. and a girl died in a freak accident. she was sitting under a large tree when a branch a foot thick broke off and fell 20 feet and struck her in the head. she wassing nod out and rushed to -- she was knocked out and rushed to the hospital, but died this evening. the campus inspected the trees before the semester began and will check them again ?ie. a man shot and killed a man in ante -- police shot and killed a man in antioch. he lead them on a chase and it ended just before 5:00. the man flashed a gun and that's when the officers started shooting. a juvenile in another car was

hurt, apparently hit by broken glass from gunfire. the contra costa county district attorney's office is investigating the shooting. jun man has been arrested in connection with a home invasion in which the robbers dressed up as pg&e workers. they say two menussed the uniforms to get into a home earlier this month. they pistol whipped a man and they tied him up along with his wife. the couple was forced to wait in the bathtub with their six-year-old child until they paid them $1800 to leave. they arrested him for another crime and his suspected it accomplice remains on the loose. now to the sierra fire burning near yosemite national park. the fire claimed 111 structures. that's up from 23. it has devoured more than 180,000 acres. 3800 firefighters are on the front lines. containment remains at 20%. now, the latest from few wool law me county.

>> there is no sunset, but there is a glow in the dark. the sounds of nature are the same as normal, but the glow is an extraordinary event. the seventh largest wildfire in california history. hundreds of people already evacuated and hundreds more could have to leave at a moment's notice. >> we are all packed up. we can get out in five minutes. just looking at where the fire is, it is not real close to us at the moment. >> reporter: only residents like bernard are let through the checkpoint because of the fire danger. the flames have approached twice, but the crews have knocked them down. they work 24 hours on and 24 off protecting homes. so when they are off, they are stationed in the city of tuolome. >> we are making ourselves visible. we are making them see we are there to serve them and we are a peace of mind to them. >> another crew is fighting to protect the reservoir and the water source for the bay area. like the crews, they are

sleeping under the stars with the fire's glow not far away. even though their families are far away, they are not alone here. >> they are coming in vehicle after vehicle and it is either donuts or pies or something. either way when we get back home we will have to get on a good diet. >> reporter: the fire has pretty much surrounded the entire reservoir at this point. but they have been able to protect the infrastructure, and they are able to get in and out still. they will have to get back in in about eight hours. abc7 news. >> air quality continues to be a major problem tonight. meteorologist sandhya patel is here now with live doppler 7hd. sandhya? >> let me show you live doppler 7hd. we are watching the conditions near the rim fire. here are the latest weather conditions. 71 right now and the relative humidity is 39%. the winds have dialed down.

crash of asiana airlines flight 214. the f.a.a. noticed an increase of the lands at sfo. they put the landing system out of service which many carrier reis lie on when landing. that system is now back on-line. the new york times website is down tonight. a hacker group calling themselves the syrian electronic army is claiming responsibility. if you try to access the website you get a message saying it cannot be found. "the times" sent out a tweet saying it can send a digital report and the app is not, woulding. this is the second time the site has been shutdown and the first time was because of server problems. a word of advice to work-aholics, be careful. long workweeks can be unhealthy, especially when they surpass 50 hours. that's the point they have a higher level of depression and more physical problems, mostly due to skipping meals. a chronic issue in our sports department. employees say time spent working is time spent earning

half moon bay. down to three-quarters of a mile right now. i will show you live pictures and you can see what i am talking about. from the explore for yum camera, you can look for the trans america pyramid. it is somewhere right in here, but it is buried in the fog right now. 58 in san francisco. 61 in oakland. it is in the 60s redwood city, san jose, los gatos, half moon bay currently 59. the view from our emeryville camera right now you can see part of the bridge there in the fog. give yourself plenty of time for the morning commute. 60 degrees right now in santa rosa. 62 in napa. it cooled off to 59 in novato. mid60s and mild in the inland east bay. hanging on to some of the warmth from earlier in the day. and here is a view from our kgo roof camera as we look toward the embarcadero and the bay bridge. a little fuzzy view as the fog is obscuring things. foggy areas, dense in patches for your morning commute. mild to warm the next few days. and we are looking at a cooler pattern, a much cooler pattern for the holiday weekend. if you are making plans, just

keep that in mind. here is a system that saw proaching. it is a -- is approaching. it is a trough and it is bringing changes in the form of more fog near the coast. tomorrow we are going to notice a little cooler for your afternoon. not a major change. just a small one. tomorrow morning like i said you will want to give yourself plenty of time to get those kids off to school. the fog could slow you down in spots. the temperatures are starting in the low 50s to the low 60s. you might need to bundle up first thing tomorrow morning. in the afternoon the sun will be shining bayside and inland. the numbers in the upper 80s, fairfield, antioch, livermore, 72 oakland and 82 napa and 83 santa rosa. 74 san mateo and 60s coast side with the fog happening around. hanging around into the afternoon. a look at the accu-weather seven-day forecast, a little change on thursday. st's friday the numbers are -- it is friday the numbers are coming back to normal range. mid60s to low 90s. don't get too used to it. it is going to be pleasant for the upcoming labor day weekend, but cooler than
