traffic is at a stand still just to come away from the 280 extension into east bay it's going to take you 31 minutes. we're finding fender bender as long the way. we'll have all details on the bay bridge closure coming up and as we take a look now at the cell 7 technology towards treasure island you can see brake lights ahead of us. if news is that it's still moving. >> we have a small grass fire that appears to be out just about now. you can see it's burned quite a bit there. no word yet on how the fire started it appears cruise have it in hand, so that is good news. >> firefighters today began

to maybe take two, three weeks to be able to burn we're seeing that in two, three day autos some smoke coming from backfires set by firefighters that are trying to stop fire progress. >> this is our group here. >> firefighters are also preparing communities. the crew from san mateo acts as scouts mapping out an attack or escape for mountain residents. >> our job is to go out to identify houses and location autos communities are still evacuated today including buck meadows but people here are still safe and that home, and if they look, you can tellrq they're thankful for firefighters that are keeping it that way.

>> investigators trying to determine what set off yesterday's kajing fire that damaged a neighborhood many didn't find much they can salvage. we want to show you what the fire looked like. several homes engulfed. 15 homes damaged including five left uninhabitable by tuesday's fire. >> i was hoping you know, maybe roof fell on my bed and my bed fell on my guitars in cases but i picked up some guitars. they're just burned to a crisp. >> that fire started along interstate 80. residents believe the city is responsible for the rapid spread because it aloud grass and weeds to grow. >> let's check on the forecast now as we approach labor day

work on a controversial caltrans freeway project came to a sudden stop today after mendocino county revoked a permit. right through sensitive wedlands. crews have begun dumping filters on the site as you can see. environmentalists sued saying the county did not do required review of the dirt and could contain toxic materials. caltrans claims the toxics are below allowed standards. a hearing set for today but before it could happen, the county revoked the permit. caltrans says it will start trucking dirt as soon as possible. u.s. army core notified caltrans sit out of compliance with other regulations in this project. >> new eastern span of the new bay bridge has not opened yet but is becoming an iconic symbol. >> the huge white tower that rises from treasure island.

a look from the area to look at the new bridge away from opening now just a few days away from the closure of the new bay bridge. take a look at this time next week it's going to be jammed. we're live tonight at the toll plaza how was driving on this new bridge compared to the old one? >> well, i can tell you it' breath taking. we want to bring you a moment to bring you up to date. so just in about the last half hour, some of the trucks pulled up and staged on the far northern side of the approach to the plaza.

and are getting ready to move into action. as i was saying i have been up on the new bridge many times throughout construction. and really, i don't want to oversell it, but it's a breath taking experience to be up there. >> this animation has palm trees on the left that will not be in place yet when it opens. on the incline the view of treasure island is spectacular, and on the bridge, suspender cables, the way they drape from the single cable are reminiscent of sails on a sail boat. many people will be relieved to have s curve replaced with a straight shot into the tunnel. eastbound will be more dramatic coming out into the light and the open right after the yerba buena tunnel no

so if you're traveling out of foster city it's a 25 minute commute on 101 across the golden gate. 580, 18 minutes gets you akro.s heavier traffic these are going to be your alternates to get around the bay area. let's take a look outside. this is where transportation reporter is just stationed you can see traffic flowing well out there. so people making it across the bay bridge before it closes. taking a look at san mateo this is going to be alternate. this is what it looks like. and out of into hayward, out of foster city those headlights moving along in the eastbound direction so thicker but we're in good shape. here is a lk at san francisco skyway. bumper to bumper traffic is packed out there.
