plaza to the yerba buena island. there will be two miles worth of rail to guide you while the old bridge is still standing. >> they will put up 10,000' of rail to help control the blow of traffic on to and off of the bridge by the toll plaza and headed into the tunnel westbound and out of the tunnel eastbound. >> the most challenging project will be demolition of the old westbound upper deck on the oakland side so the bicycle path can be connected between land and bridge and much of the work has to do with grinding and maybing and striping. caltran is expected to update me on their work they are doing this morning whether they are still on schedule or not but we will pass that information to you. >> here is a time-lapse look at the construction work overnight from our camera on yerba buena

off of the san rafael richmond bridge bunching up there on the off-ramp the sir francis drake boulevard off-ramp the connection from 580 to southbound 101. these people will be headed over the golden gate bridge headed into san francisco so we have a backup beyond san quentin. eric and kristen? this will be a cop provide of trucks during peak commute hours and a pleasanton company is moving more than 6,000 truckloads of asphalt to pave the new bay bridge and could be congested so caltran will monitor traffic at the command center and can reroute the convoy. the trucks are diverted back to

big. it is probably maybe ten-car backup in all the cash lanes and when you get on the bridge into marin county traffic appears to be heavier than normal but moving at speed limit which is good. i talked to an associate of mine that made it southbound 101 to the golden gate bridge saying traffic is a little heavier than normal but it is moving which is the good news. >> thank you, dick. >> for many it was a race against the clock to get out of san francisco. drivers were turned away at interstate 80 eastbound at 8th before 8:00 p.m. some were frustrated because the shutdown was nasa supposed to start until 8:00 and they thought they made it. >> we have to go over the golden gate bridge then the san rafael bridge because we live in vallejo so i am not very happy. >> this is the first time it is closed because of construction on weekday when thousands are commuting to work or getting

ready to leave the city for the long week. the bridge was closed during the labor day weekend in 2006, 2007, and 2009. >> bride and grandmother -- and groom are moving ahead with plans for a wedding which was plans months ago on treasure island. this is a high demand because of the romantic views and the wedding planners say the couple was shocked when they learned the bridge would be closed but caltrain came to the rescue driving access passes to treasure island from tran just for the wedding party. >> organizers of the 43rd millbrae art and wine festival are making sure it does not affect attendance offering free shuttle service from the millbrae bart station. more than 100,000 people are expected to attend the annual party which runs from tom through sunday.

civilians by the syrian government and the obama administration said it would take action against the syrian government even without the backing of allies or the united nations but great britain is now backing off of a rush to strike. >> the prosecution in the case of convicted serial killer joseph naso hopes evidence of a possible other victim leads to a death sentence because they think they can link him to the murder of a woman in 1981 when a body was found on a beach the he was convicted of killing four women. the sentence will be considered next month and hear from the children of three of the victims as well as his ex-wife would accused him of drugging her and letting men sexually assault her. >> for the first time, ford is making the popular fusion sedan in the united states and the michigan plant near detroit will assemble the fusion today including the hybrid version.

the roads are looking now. leyla gulen? >> they are looking a lot on a lot of bart trains and the freeways, however, are looking heavier at the altamont pass and when you get if was tremendous valley and hayward over to the san mateo bridge, that is bumper to bumper and as we look at our drive time traffic traveling along highway four from antioch to hercules to i-80 is 36 minutes and along i-80 westbound to the maze we are looking at early pictures which is under 20 minutes so it is packed to 580 along 87 from 85 that is under ten minutes, a short drive and our waze app you can see it is a helpful tool. the richmond-san rafael bridge
