reporter leyla gulen has the conditions on bay area roadways. >> as we look right now a picture of the san mateo bridge is very different from early this morning and now we are starting to see space between the cars in the westbound direction from hayward to foster city. it is going to take approximately 20 minutes or throws get the westbound direction toward the peninsula. we will go to our next live shot across the macarthur maze so if you are headed along i 80 westbound you can see the tail lights pushing to 580 busier than normal. another shot shows the golden gate bridge where we have folks making it in the other direction across the richmond-san rafael bridge and through marin county with a few extra cars all moving but moving under cloudy and foggy skies. >> cheryl? >> caltran says crowes made a lost progress overnight and this morning on the prep work that

must be done. abc7 news reporter matt keller got a tour and joins us from the toll please. matt, is the bridge re-opening on schedule? >> so far, so good, construction crews told me the work is going well this morning and it is on time and this morning we got a tour of it. >> grinding and maybing is what it sounds like. crew are taking the asphalt down from 2" to 6 itch lower and putting in a new drainage system. a thousand feet of the westbound approach of the bridge is being demolished. the demolition is on track and we have 90 percent of the deck knocked choose removed 7 beams. >> they will put in 600' bicycle path that allows the pedestrian and bicycle path to be opened noon on tuesday. check out the view of the

s-curve, welcoming the new yerba buena island transition structure a thin protective coating is put down on the roads entering and leaving the tunnel to credit a smooth driving nasa. >> the key thing is that construction is going very well, we are on schedule, and the work this started last night at 8:00, the demolition, grinding and paving is what we will see the next 24 hours and we do not see anything ahead of us to cause us to think we will be pushed off schedule. >> a factor that can cause delays is the weather but the officials say the conditions look favorable during the weekend. and here is a video from our yerba buena island sped up 10,000 percent to show all of the activity on the bridge to morning. you can see workers and machinery and a lot of activity. >> bart is a popular alternate to commuter whose use the bridge. this morning, we saw people crammed in the trains from oakland to san francisco.

katie marzullo joins us from powell street station in san francisco. >> i know firsthand and from twitter that everyone is going to have a different story of their commute this morning and i road bart myself and i saw everything from wide open trains headed east and plenty of seating but very little room. >> bart went from this, to this, to avoid the crush some started before the sun came up. >> maybe my regular train might be more packed but the train i came on, the early train was all right. >> in west oakland they were ready for worst case scenario especially those on bicycles. >> it will be crowded. i have to be patient. wait for an empty train. >> another bicyclist had to do that. wait. >> i had to watch a few trains go by that were completely packed. no big deal.

>> bart is asking everyone to allow extra time the. >> a lot of people have never used bat and are not familiar with the system so i encourage people to be very patient. maybe build a little extra time into the commute. >> there is the issue of pack at bart stations with availability and price. >> at mcarthur station at 7:00 all the spaces were full. >> $9. that is a lot. bart parking lot is $5.50 but mcarthur is $1.50. the drill tomorrow will be better but a regular rider says it could be worse. >> i don't think a lot of people know the bridge will be closed today so tomorrow and the day after could be a little more hectic. >> bart is operating trains around the clock with 1 bart stations having trains once an hour day and night meeting at mcarthur station.

several people told me they only had to worry about it today because they have tomorrow off. >> there are new ridership figures and by 6:00 this morning, there were 7,800 new riders on board and this followed the jump of 16,000 new riders during the morning and evening commute. a.c. transit is running extra buses for service to four east bay bart stakes and west oakland, mcarthur, coliseum and north berkeley and additional ferries, as well, carrying 15 percent more passengers than usual, on special schedules. >> the san francisco bay ferry service is reporting a slight increase in ridership this morning, the biggest impact felt in the north bay. official say this morning the 6:30 ferry to san francisco was at capacity and they had to leave folks behind. official numbers are released later today. >> there will be a convoy trucks on interstate 580 at peak commute.

and investigators are looking into why the woman was on the tracks. happening today, san jose, san francisco, palo alto and other bay area cities are launching their bicycle share program. crews have been busy stocking bicycle share stations with green and blue bicycles and have been installed in san francisco and redwood city and san mateo and palo alto and san jose, and about 700 bicycles will be available to rent 24 hours a day. the $11 million program encourages people to ride rather than drive for the short trips. the system goes live at noon today, for more information we have a link on abc7news.com under "see it on tv." >> fairfield residents whose homes burned in a disasterous fire this week are meeting with city leaders and red cross. a fast-moving fire started long the road in dry grass on tuesday afternoon has spread to several homes. five homes are condemned and ten

crews knocked it down before it caused real property damage. there is a sig-alert still in affect and this is southbound 880 in fremont and what has happened is that there is a grass fire to the side of the freeway so that is blocking the right lane and just watch out for that southbound 880 in fremont, closed and sky 7 is headed to the scene. back to the bay bridge closure, construction cruise are working to get the new eastern span ready for the tuesday morning opening. the toll plaza is quiet and there are only construction crews. >> other bay area briggs are seeing more cars than unusual. traffic has been steady all morning long. >> here is a look at the golden gate bridge another alternative routes and you can see it is foggy and cloudy and beyond that we do have cars moving in if you

where we have advise clouds around san francisco are keeping us at 61, and upper 60's, 67 in oakland, hayward, fremont, 68 in san carlos and everyone else is in the 70's. here is a look at the cloud cover, a beautiful picture from mount tamalpais and cannot quite see alcatraz. that is covered as is most the bay. the louds are lingering around the heart of the bay with temperatures close to average with tomorrow the warmest day in the forecast and more clouds and cooler weather, a sea breeze returning. cupertino is close to where we should be and neighbors are in that ballpark and mid-to-upper los gatos and gilroy and warmer and mid-70's to near 80 until milbrae at 72 and half moon bay

at 68 so you close to where the high will stay for the afternoon, and 66 in the sunset and 70 in downtown and south san francisco, and sausalito is 72, and low-to-mid 80's through the north bay valley and 20 degrees cooler at the beaches. our spread along the east bay shoreline from 72 in berkeley to 80 in castro valley and fremont and oakland is 74. east bay valley is mid-to-upper 80's. might even get a 90 around brentwood and discovery bay this afternoon. temperatures tonight under partly cloudy skies and not so much cloud cover and mid-50's to lower 60's. here is what is happening, watch the storm tram that is retreating to the north and the high pressure is exerting dominance. the low is lifting and the high is coming in, today is nice, tomorrow is warmer and lake tahoe we have more of the lake today than yesterday so the fire production from the rim fire or the smoke production is starting to drop a little bit but, still, tuolumne county until noon on

friday, and you will have very hazardous poor air quality and it will be hazardous to a lesser extent all the way up to tahoe from mommoth tomorrow. so, here is the seven-day forecast, look at the temperatures, three to five degrees warmer tomorrow, and some of us are warmer-than-average and as we head through the holiday week, temperatures will drop 5- to 10-degrees. >> listen to this, going to baseball game can be pricey, right, especially if you buy a beer or two while you are there. which major league ballparks charge the most for a brew? it is fenway where the red sox play, beer there run $9.60 on average for 16-ounce beer and that is 60 cents an ounce. at the giants game it is $6.70 for 16-ounce beer. >> the a's are even cheaper, 36 cents an ounce or $5.70 for the same beer.
