that is where we are seeing backups. if you look at 880 we are seeing a buildup of traffic to highway 92 from castro valley 238 locking heavy and this shot is your drive across the mayo bridge so you -- the san mateo bridge taking you 15 minutes from the high-rise to foster city and 101 is in go shape. >> we start with visibility. we have thickest fog in napa and throw miles visibility at half moon bay and 101 is better is along the bay shore with spots of it but it is not hitting our reporting stations. the next 12 hours, misty and 62, and sunshine and 71, and much warmer and 80 at 4:00, and 69 during 7:00.

inland, most of the clouds are in the north by and low 60's and sunny elsewhere and 81 by noon and 91 and above average warmth inland and 82 at 7:00, and the coast will see more sunshine today and temperatures will go from the low 60's to the mid-to-upper 60's in the afternoon hours. eric? >> we will continue our coverage of the bay bridge closure and matt keller is near the bay bridge toll plaza. matt? >> yes, a lot of work has taken place. you can see there are a lot of trucks and workers have shown up. at 5:00 we see the activity pick up. yesterday, they grinded the road and this only they laid out the asphalt. they then rolled over it with the bulldozers. you can see the difference in the road in front me.

>> there were more people on the usually morning trains but they are not overstuffed. not like yesterday. those are in the a later hours. i talked with the bart spokesman and he said yesterday 61,000 additional riders at the same time yesterday and he does not have new numbers yet but he has his own experience and took the train from san francisco to oakland and he says that there were more people on his train. >> fridays are usually lower ridership day than thursday and we see how it goes, it is hard to predict. i noticed that the car i was on at 5:10 this morning, each seat was taken. that is unusual. very unusual. people are getting up earlier and gettingen at trains earlier which is what we want.

>> bart is running overnight trains from 14 different stations and, also, longer trains and overnight trains through the week, as well, and bart running the longer trains to accommodate people looking to get to special events including the a's game and gay pride. commuters will have an easier ride but for the week, longer trains to accommodate people going to social events. >> we will look at another option the bay area ferries seeing a boost in popularity. ridership yesterday on boats to and from the east bay jumped 57 percent compared to wendesday's commute. on the ferry, there was a unanimous percent increase and additional ferries have been added. >> now, track, with abc7 news engineer, with cell 7 technology and southbound on 880 in

hayward. leyla gulen warned us there was a backup forming. dick? >> yes. the backup starts as soon as you hit the 238 interchange southbound on 880. that is primarily because 238 funnels a lost traffic in from castro valley and livermore and pleasanton, points east. so that traffic is merging on to 880 southbound and a lot of the people that normally are going over the san francisco and oakland bay bridge are now having to use the san mateo hayward bridge so we have this backup. traffic is moving at 20 to 35 miles per hour and i am getting ready to take the two right lanes to exit from highway 32 in the san mateo bridge. >> thank you, dick. the bay bridge toll plaza closing lasts for up to five full days. it will re-open action next tuesday morning, perhaps

>> san jose police say a robbery suspect has been shot after he tried to run one over at at almost rock avenue. officers spot add car they believed was used in a robbery and they tried to stop the car the driver took off. the vehicle crashed and the suspect was shot at least once during a confrontation with police and was taken to the hospital where he is being treated. the search is under way if a second suspect. >> san jose police believe a substitute teacher had thousands of images of child porn on the commuter and remains in jail after being arrested by the crimes against children task force. the 39-year-old teacher has worked in oakland grove school district since 2006. the arrest alarmed the parents and stunned a neighbor.

it is slow from the interchange at 880 to westbound 92. there was a report of an accident earlier and that is clear right now but i have been in a consistent backup all the way approaching the toll plaza and half a mile from the toll plaza you could see in the left hand side of my picture right now there is c.h.p. and a taxi van and a caltran tow truck. i believe that could be the accident they were talking about earlier. i also see...there is another caltran tow truck and a big rig on the right-hand side with two other vehicles. probably, related. the two incidents left and right-hand side of the road are related or one could be as a result of the other. those were the two sheriff shers

you are about to get into fog. >> it isit is looking nice eastd and westbound traffic. i am coming down on the foster city side both moving at 60 miles per hour and when you get beyond the accident scene before the toll plaza which has traffic backed up all way to the 880 interchange on 92, and you get beyond that the san mateo bridge is great in both directions. >> dick, so a lot of the new commuters presumably will get on to 101 either going south toward san jose or north to san francisco and yesterday that was busy, too, so it looks like you are seeing brake lights?

92 and dick is on 101 north. it is looking good as he headed up 3rd avenue downtown, with the aiport coming up and it could be a tough commute the second morning of the closure. >> good morning, everyone, thanks for joining us. >> we want to gift you other looks at what is happening. we showed you 101 but before you cross that you have to get through the san mateo bridge and this is westbound tail lights increased traffic because of the bay bridge closure with accidents that slowed it up as people approached the bridge so keep that in mind. >> right now we go to our traffic reporter, leyla gulen. >> i can say it looks like traffic is moving along pretty well in most areas along 880 is where you fine the heavy delays. we have a few accidents at the

asphalt from 2" to 6" lower and laid down the new asphalt this morning. >> work is progressing very well. we have not had any hiccups. at yerba buena island tunnel the road surface is finished and a lower deck is half done. it will improve traction in wet conditions and will last longer. things are going well and everything is on schedule and they anticipate opening up by the deadline on tuesday at 5:00 a.m. they hope to re-open the bridge then. >> bart is reporting an increase in ridership so that means packed trains. abc7 news reporter katie marzullo continues our coverage from san francisco. katie? >> good morning, eric. most people at embarcadero bart

and people on twitter believe this will enfewer commuters because it is friday of a holiday weekend. the answer is yes and no, riders are saying the trains are full, more full than they would expect, down to the last seat where commuters are used to having the police to themselves. we are headed into standing room only territory. >> we have a lot of carrying capacity on the shoulders of the rush hour so 7:00 to 8:00 or 9:00 to 10:00 if you can be flexible in the commute, you will find much more room. >> i took the early train, very early, usually it is empty. the last two days the seats have been full. a lot more people, more like an 8:00 commute.

>> welcome back at 6:39 and it is friday light. we had a few accidents at san mateo bridge tolls and we are looking at slow traffic approaching highway 92 along the southbound nimitz but castro valley is still looking decent into 238. to our waze app we have fog reported by our abc7 news wazer to get an the traffic. a look at the golden gate bridge and you can see fog is shrouded the drive so be careful. use low beams not the highballs -- the high beams. >> now, we are headed to millbrae art and wine festival with temperatures near 70 or dropping into the low 70's and upper 60's by the end of the weekend. look for increasing clouds as we head through the weekend.

yesterday i would call the traffic more balanced. yesterday it was heavier in the commute direction into the city and lighter in the reverse commute but today it is more balanced so maybe that is because people are leaving town for the four-day weekend or fewer people coming to work or to a combination of both the we will see the morning unfold. >> or all of the above. the housing mark it is becoming a cash market. >> if you fly out for holiday weekend be prepared for delays. we go to the new york stock exchange. deborah, good morning. >> good morning, not everyone is planning on relaxing and many of you, your friends or neighbors, will labor on labor day but all employers offer it as a paid holiday. a poll found 40 percent of businesses will still require some of the workers to come in on monday and many work in health care and services sector.
