elementary school bathroom. it happened late this afternoon in alameda at ruby bridges elementary. police got a call about the assault. officers arrested the boy near the school. the victim is described as a young girl. she was taken to the hospital and there is no information on how she is doing. a popular restaurant where people wait hours for a table is closing because of an out break of e-coli. they posted a notice on the front door tonight and the city health department is reporting 14 people with cases of e-coli including 9 who ate at berma superstar. there is no on going health risk at the restaurant. it can be prevented by practicing safe food handling including cooking meats thoroughly and washing hands and counters and washing hands before -- after touching raw meat. and now to the new bay bridge and a big milestone

tonight. crews are just about to finish painting the stripes of the lanes of the toll plaza after removing the surface and repaving it. the clough is sure is expected to last a total of five days. the bridge is scheduled to reopen by 5:00 on tuesday morning, but it could open sooner. looking live now at the eastern span from our emeryville camera. it is a beautiful view of the center and the work continues around the clock. here is what the shutdown is doing to traffic. this is a time lapse video of the traffic on the golden gate bridge. most drivers are heading out of town leaving the city less crowded tonight. alan -- alan wang is live with that part of the story. >> carolyn and ama, that bridge is definitely an artery for business into the city, especially for the bars and the restaurants. if you are a business owner it is a painful sight. but if you like eating out in san francisco it could be a great week end to get a table without much of a wait.

it is friday night on the embarcadero and by the looks of these restaurants it is obvious the bay bridge is closed. >> we could have gotten in a lot of places. usually friday night you can't get in anywhere. >> they live at the top of the hill over looking the bridge. for the past two days the droning sound of traffic has been missing. >> you are used to it. weak up this morning and we thought we lived in napa or somewhere. >> it is quiet like the country. >> you can hear the birds singing. >> reporter: but that sound is also the sound of money not making it into the city. >> we stay busy until 9:00. sometimes we have to tell people we are closed because they keep coming in. as you can see tonight by 8:00 it is a crawl. >> reporter: the crawl won't last long. cal trans is expecting the bridge with all of the noise to reopen on time. >> there is a tremendous amount of excitement. everybody is feeling confident and we are on track. >> the new surface is nearly

finished and crews have begun removing a section of the old bridge that is blocking construction of the bike path on the new east span. when it opens there won't be 5* 35 mile per hour s -- s-curve. it will a straight shot in both directions. in san francisco, alan wang, abc7 news. we hit the road in the north bay all the way down to the san mateo bridge. here is a look at the bay area traffic from south 7 from earlier. we noticed that traffic was more congested. the chp told us that's because in the morning most people are headed to the same area. the commute is concentrated. later in the day people are going in every direction making traffic harder to navigate. abc7 news reporter saying that will be a concern through the weekend. >> we need to also think about all of the events that are going to be taking place off the weekend in the bay area. among those are the a's game taking place and a fireworks

ferries. explore the realtime traffic maps to see where the worst gridlock is during this closure. as soon as the bridge opens we will notify our twitter followers. you can follow us at abc7 news bay area. the menlo park police department is asking to join a surveillance camera network. here is how it works. they want residents and businesses to register their camera with the department. if a crime occurs they can check to see who has the surveillance camera in that area. officers say they have helped identify suspects after recent shootings, robberies and burglaries. bay area authorities say burglaries in several areas are being committed by the same woman using the same ploy, looking for snakes. seven cities have been struck in recent weeks. belmont was hit yesterday. the suspect is described as a heavy set woman in her 30s, 5 foot 6 and dyed blonde hair and wears sunglasses.
