good morning, everyone. let's start you off with a quick look at the weather. >> good morning to you. the marine layer looks compressed. we have fog in san francisco, oakland. it's clear in the north bay. temperatures have been pretty mild this morning, and we're looking at about 60 in lo los gatos. later this afternoon, a warm day inland. very mild around the bay, and it should be pleasant in oakland with highs in the mid 70s there. we're looking at coastal temperatures. a little sun more so. the beaches of the north bay. san mateo coast, half-moon bay, clouds hang tough in pacifica.
8:01 am
a warm day inland. this will be the warmest day of the upcoming holiday weekend. i'll explain and talk more cloud cover. maybe a shower or two coming up sooner than you think. katie? >> lisa, thank you. enwe want to start you off with the new bay bridge. crews have removed the old surface and repaved it. workers began painting new stripes on yesterday. the bridge is scheduled to reopen by 5:00. but it could be sooner if the work is done sooner. looking live, a beautiful view. a little fog over the top there. work continuing around the clock. ali long reports on the impact this closure is having on business in san francisco.

8:03 am
and later today they'll be washing the inside of the tunnel. demolition continues to move forward as well. they're removing a 1,000 foot-long section of the original westbound approach out of the toll plaza onto the original bridge. that's causing a conflict with the bike and pedestrian path in oakland. they are scheduled to have that completed by late tonight or tomorrow morning. to public can use the bike and pedestrian path at noon on tuesday. there's a conflict at the west end of the bike and pedestrian path because of the original span that will not be connected until early 2015. on oakland end, they will be able to finish the permanent connection in 6 to 12 months. all grinding is complete. they are paving asphalt.
8:04 am
that work is ongoing. it will be ongoing for the next 24 hours. that could cause minor delays with some of our asphalt trucks. if that does, it's not an issue that we cannot recover from. any general questions on the construction? i have mcm production manager. he can give you more information about that. >> the part about you removing 1,000 foot. >> so we are removing a 1,000 foot long section of the original westbound deck. that is causing a conflict with

8:06 am
question. >> one more question. >> yes. >> what will become of the s-curve. >> it's going to be taken out as quick len and safely as possible. it's one of the things that is preventing us from the bike path aural the way to the island. there's a temporary eastbound onramp. but the s-curve is preventing us from building a permanent on-ramp. so it will come out quickly. i don't know when you'll see demolition start. but as soon as traffic is on the new bridge, the contract will have access to the original east span. particularly to start that demolition process. >> so tuesday at noon can we make it all the way to the island? >> no. on tuesday at noon you can access it only from the public side. we cannot build the pedestrian
8:07 am
bike path all the way to the island. the entire s-curve is in the way. once that has been demolished the current schedule shows us opening the access to the island in early 2015. when the pedestrian bike path opens at noon on tuesday, you can get past the tower of the suspension bridge. all right? >> all right. you're listening to caltran updating us this morning. big picture, sounds like everything is still on schedule. still plan for 5:00 a.m. on tuesday opening of the bay bridge. the cal and a's game may delay the asphalt trucks getting to where they need to be on the bridge this morning. or throughout the day. he says that's only a minor problem. still working to get a temporary bike path open. riders should be able to use that by noon on tuesday.
