hours. caltran's work to get the new span ready continued over the holiday week. abc7 news reporter amy hollyfield is at the toll plaza with the latest on the progress. amy? >> this is headquarters. we get status updates at this location. the updates have been good. crews have worked around the clock over the weekend and have made good progress. it is looking like they can hit the 5:00 a.m. deadline tomorrow morning. they have taken the opportunity to pressure wash the tunnel, it looks nice and clean and replaced the lights. crews have been working on the bridge and car traffic can get across but working on the bicycle path which is expected to open at noon tomorrow. among all the work, they will pause today for a ceremony to mark the historic occasion. >> this will be a ceremonial chain cutting at the toll plaza followed by a procession of historic cars.

>> people of note and dignitaries are add as we speak. there will be a special guest. >> the special guest is being kept a secret so that will be a surprise. after the ceremony they are expected to announce the opening time. right now it is set for 5:00 tomorrow morning but we will find out today if they will be able to push that up a bit. as of right now the official word is they are sticking to the tuesday morning deadline they have set for themselves. drivers should plan accordingly. stay tuned on this. we will let you know if that changes. >> lot of excitement. four people driving on this holiday, the last day they will endorse heavy traffic without the bay bridge. the closure will be felt on roads and streets leading to the alternate routes and doyle drive was bumper-to-bumper traffic as the approach from marin with traffic backed up to marin city.

person who shot and killed an oakland man. it happened on saturday night outside an apartment complex on daisy street. the 48-year-old victim was visiting a friend when according to police he got in a physical altercation with another man who shot him and police say the man went to the apartment complex to visit a friend. >> police are looking for two shooter whose fired more than 30 shots into a house wounding two teens. the "shot spotter" was activated 31 times at the house on saturday night. officers arrived to find an 18-year-old man outside the house and a 19-year-old inside the house. both were shot but are expected to recover. the motive behind the shootings appears to have stemmed from an early road rage ensure depth. >> arson suspect is in custody because of alert deer hunters near pine flat road spotted a plume of smoke coming from the hills yesterday morning, and after, the smoke was rising from another spot and the hunters knew something was wrong.

the shelving of a planned patent office in san jose which was made in july but the government is new shelving the plans because of budget cuts. the nation has one patent office which has a backlog of more than 500,000 patent applications. the new office was intended to relieve that backlog. silicon valley files mortalitients than any region in the world. >> american endurance swimmer is making the 5th attempt in three years swimming from cuba to florida without a shark cage and it is locking like she will make it. the 64-year-old left cuba yesterday. the previous attempts to swim the 112-mile route have been shut short by jelly fish stings but she tweeted an hour ago that she has fewer than ten miles to go setting out yesterday estimating it would take 80 hours to complete and it is estimated she will finish between 1:00 o'clock and 3:00 this afternoon our time. >> the holiday weekend is washed

seven miles visibility at half moon bay as low as it gets with not much fog out there. see the cold front sweeping down from the north with high pressure off to our east and in between we have a plume of subtropical moisture that is making it feel rather humid this morning. that is why our temperatures are in the 60's to near 70 degrees. the best chance of thunder is to our south. what we are dealing with elevated sprinkles at the most, showers, because they are elevated they are undercut by a very dry or a dryer layer of air so we will not see much. but the possibility is still out this and it is not a game changer for the holiday listen. now, the temperatures, under high clouds and sunshine this afternoon, 75 in milpitas, and 80 at san jose and cupertino and 83 in los gatos and 88 in gilroy in santa cruise, 80 degrees.

sprinkles really diminishes and tomorrow is like today temperature-wise with slow warming trends that peak over the weekend with temperatures above average. >> to those who may have to go to work today or need to get around we are so far looking at quiet conditions. if you are making it across to the peninsula or into san francisco taking san mateo bridge or the dumbarton bridge you are moving at top speed and not a problem. as we head to the altamont pass, it is still quiet and 50 miles per hour is the top speed and when you get out of the pass and closer to live more everything is moving along at 55 miles per hour so decent as we head to highway four through antioch to pittsburg, and 50 miles per hour, and you will see traffic loosening up and it moves from there. 101 southbound from san francisco to sfo is ten minutes, 880 northbound from 238 to the maze is 14 minutes and we have a report of someone changing a tire in a lane so watch out for
