keep their speed down because you can go pretty fast just coasting. >> maybe not ideal for small children. it is about a four mile round trip right now. remember, it is not finished. it doesn't go all the way to san francisco yet. that is still a few years away. the s-curve is gone, but right new from sunrise to sunset, you can park, if you want to, on the north side of the road with limited two-hour long parking to come up here and try this out. they are expecting there will be a large crowd today. c.h.p. will be on bicycles to keep traffic up here flowing. >> here is a look at the first morning commute on the new bay

bridge from our cell7 technology. we took you along for the road live all morning and we saw the usual backups but it was mostly a breathtaking and smooth commute for many drives. >> the big headline from c.h.p. is everything is going great. there have been warnings issued, mostly for taking pictures. there was one arrest. someone was taken into custody for drinking and driving. other than that, no major problems to report. the toll plaza, though, is backed up most of the morning and we will look at how it looks now. here is our traffic reporter, leyla gulen. >> it is looking exactly the same as what it normally does in our rush hour commute. if we can go to sky 7 h.d., there we go, a look at the bay bridge toll plaza with the metering lights still on. we do not normally see this much traffic. can you see how back the backups are stacked out the maze.

it will take you, still, 20 minutes to head away from the maze and into san francisco. if you are coming arm from highway four, that is 40-minute commute, so, still, very busy and it is not going to thin out any time soon because a lot of people are bypassing the other briggs so they can take advantage of the brand new stretch of the bay bridge. >> commuters have two reasons to celebrate. one, no more long detours to get across the bay and they can soak in the new scenery. abc7 news reporter katie marzullo is on yerba buena island with reaction. >> look at the scenery, hold and new, side by side, cars zipping along on the new span. i talked with a lot of commuters and they are in love. this is what drivers see. this is how they feel. >> it is a beautiful new bridge. >> a real experience, pretty nice. >> a beautiful sight.

limited to office furniture. they have their own fire brigade but marin county >> now police have to keep a record when they arrest someone but let them go after complaints that officers stop minorities and make him sit on the curb for an extra amount of time. matt? >> san jose police were battling complaints a few years ago that officers targeted certain racial groups. a new policy is put in place that will let them know who is being held in temporary detention incidents. san jose police have to document when an officer orders a detain career to sit on the curb, when an officer handcuffs a detainee or set as detainee in the back seat of a car. the police departments cross the united states have come under fire recently for policies like stop and frisk because of the

possibility of racial profiling. >> our officers are held to a legal standard when they are conducting proactive police work. if they are going to detain someone they need reasonable suspicion. if they are going to arrest someone, they need probable cause. >> beside race they will report the reason for the stop, if a search was performed and other details on the interaction. the program was kicked off by the retiring chief but was suspended to work out the operational issues. no word on this data is released but it is considered to be of public record so they expect to release it so the public will know how the results turned out. matt, thank you. family members of who victims of a hit-and-run crash if san jose are questioning if the c.h.p. did the right thing in calling off 9 pursuit of the driver. a memorial at crash scene marks the spot where carmen zavala and christina de leon were killed. they died when a silver mercedes

and why we are seeing a robust amount of sunshine. tropical moisture is moving east and not coming back any time soon. temperatures today are close to average and low 80's around the south bay, like 82 in san jose and mid-to-upper 80's from cupertino and los gatos. and sunshine and 82 in santa cruz. half moon bay is at 70 degrees. we will hit that in downtown, 71 in south san francisco. 74 in sausalito. now is the time to head out there, thursday, friday and saturday, to get the beautiful pictures. now, low-to-mid 80's in your valleys and mid-to-upper 70's along the east bay shore and mid-to-upper 80's inland but not so sticky as yesterday. a night game tonight and still fighting for first place and 67 degrees and dropping down to 62 as the rangers are in town take on the a's. tonight, in the 50's in the north bay and san francisco and half moon bay and low-to-mid 60's for the rest of us. we will talk about what happened
