>> live from the kgo-tv broadcast center this is abc7 news. police investigate a gun battle in san mateo, a home invasion robbery thattent with wrong for the robbers and turned deadly. thanks for joining us. >> one person is dead, two more are injured and many are stunned in a crime that started on the peninsula and ended in san jose. the gun battle took place in a quiet residential neighborhood in san mateo. abc7 news reporter katie marzullo is at the scene. katie? >> this is an active crime scene. a lot of violent twists and

turns that began when three people bust into a home, bullets fly, three are hit, one is dead. >> a man who lives here but does not want to be identified heard the gunshots but thought it was fireworks. >> we were standing through the window because we thought nothing was happening, but then they went off again the. >> three armed suspects were attempting a home invasion robbery and confronted by four residents one with a gun of his own. a gun battle erupted. guns, multiple bullet holes and blood were found. >> 24-year-old who lives at the house was shot in the shoulder and he shot two of the three suspects. police say the suspects took off in a dark s.u.v. a neighbor saw it all. >> you can see the chaos and the girl screaming and the shadows people running across the treat and you can see the guy dragging the body and the car takes off and another car came and they are yelling at that car to

leave. >> the three suspects ended up at the regional medical center, one dead on arrival, another wounds, the third not hurt and taken into custody. police have not revealed a motive but say the come community is not in danger. >> this was not a random act. the suspects specifically targeted this house for reasons not entirely clear. >> the deputy chief says the suspects did steal stuff from the house. more arrests are coming. >> the suspects are facing charges including but not limited to robbery and homicide. the investigation still very much underway. police are asking anyone who saw anything about what happened to call the san mateo police department. >> thank you. new this morning investigators in santa cruz county are looking for victims of a possible child molester from a decade ago. the sheriff deputies arrested this man, on tuesday.

he has illegal conduct with two children 10 years ago at a christian school in live oakland where he worked as a bus driver. investigators believe there could be other victims in the area and they are asking anyone with information please give them a call. >> developing news in the east bay, where investigators are working to determine the identity of a body found in hayward in the yard of a vacant home at 2:00 this morning. police say the man was dead for less than 24 hours. he was between the ages of 25 and 30 years old. he may been homeless. the cause of death is under investigation. >> happening now in the south bay the c.h.p. is investigating an accident involving a school bus and a minivan in san jose. investigators say the school bus was transporting four special needs students to the campbell community center when the crash happened. the students were all adults and taken to the hospital with minor

injuries. >> a truck pulling a portable office trailer overfunded at the treasure island off-ramp of the new eastern span of the bay bridge this morning. you can see it there in the corner of the screen as rues worked to pull the trailer back upright. c.h.p. issued a sig-alert until they were able to move it off the road. >> solve el anniversary today marks one year since the bay area c.h.p. officer was killed in the line of duty. the 37-year-old was shot during a traffic stop on interstate 680 in september. the gunman was slot and killed by another officer. the community rallied around the foam with several fundraisers and special events. the officer's name has been added to a memorial honoring california peace officers killed in the hip -- line of duty. >> we know the cause of the massive fire in the sierra. the fire at yosemite national park was hunted by a hunters illegal campfire that got

the forever stamps now is a good time because the price of stamps could go up. again. the postal service is expected to vote today whether to raise the price of a first-class stamp. regulators are considering an emergency two cent increase on top of the one cent inflation increase already mapped. that means stamps would be 49 cents by next year. the postal service lost a record $15.9 billion last year. >> the top education official thinks he can have the answer to teens that always fall asleep in class saying that the districts should consider push back the first bell and starting school later. he says that the later start for high school could help teens get the most from their classroom time. he says that the decision is up to individual schools but he is urging superintendents to consider research that suggests well rested kids are better students. mike should know something about that. >> all of you who gulfport at

7:00 this afternoon and evening so if you are trying to land this it will be bumpy because of the wind that could get up to 35 miles per hour. 60 at half moon bay and 18-mile-per-hour wind in fairfield. it is dry. the marine layer is dry so we have total sunshine everywhere and the few clouds around half moon bay will be gone in an hour or so. check out our temperatures, 64 at half moon bay and still holding on to the mid-to-upper 60's along the east bay shore but the peninsula is down to 71 in san jose and mid-to-upper 70's in some of our inland neighbors already. this is how it looks from the camera, total sunshine, and all the modules, solar modules on the exploritorium getting their money's worth today with the sunshine. it will be sunny everywhere dead and the mild highs because of the sea breeze. the warming trends begins tomorrow as we transition to a land breeze when the heat peaks

this weekend and the models are holding on to it until monday for our inland so we could make a run at triple digits this all those areas or all those days inland. upper 70's down in the south bay and 79 in los gatos and santa cruz this weekend, right along the coast it will be about 80 degrees but when you go inland it will be around 90 so the microclimates are going to be in sync. half moon bay will be well into the 70's and in the hills, 80's and 90's on the peninsula but, today, mid-to-upper 70's. around downtown, south san francisco, sausalito, about 70. low-to-mid 80's in the east bay valleys, with mid-60's along the coast and mid-to-upper 70's along the east bay short. oakland will be 74 degrees today. mid-to-upper 80's in the east bay valleys maybe the last time you do not have to pay for air
