it burned 3,000 acres. firefighters and residents believe the worst has passed. there isn't any active fire burning right now and the evacuation orders have been lifted. it looks devastating on the hillside no homes were damaged. residents are full of gratitude. >> they are the most dedicated hard working personnel i have ever seen. they have truly cared about everyone. >> firefighters are here to serve. that is what we do. we appreciate the recognition from the folks we serve. >> residents felt especially grateful after living through this on monday night: a huge flare-up came close to homes along morgan territory road. crews found themselves in a firefight. some raced from their not sure if they would see their homes again. the firefighters saved the

homes. three firefighters have been hurt in the fire. the injuries including an ankle injury and heat exhaustion. they predict the fire will be completely surrounded by saturday. >> thank you. a team east bay firefighters is now a victim of crime as being robbed fighting the mt. diablo fire. firefighters were called on sunday to fight the fire leaving station 7 empty. burglars broke into lockers and desks and gym bags and still two wedding rings and ipads and wallets and watches and cash. they later tried to break in station three but were scared off by a sleeping firefighter who woke up. >> it is a slap in the face. who thinks to do that? the contra costa county fire protection district is now considering installing security camera and extra looks at all

are committed to bringing those responsible for the killings to justice. >> the richmond city council is moving forward with the plan to help homeowners underwater in mortgages. the council voted to team up with the san francisco-based investment group to acquire mortgages upside down despite lawsuits to stop them. hundreds turned up to weigh in. the plan opens the door for richmond to invoke build imminent domain to seize mortgages that exceed the value of the property. wells fargo and deutsche bank are suing the city and will square off in court if the first time tomorrow. >> pg&e has reached settlements with all but two people who filed suit over the 2010 pipe line explosion. it deploys 38 homes and killed eight people. pg&e says it reached agreements with nearly 350 victims between last friday and monday. monday was the third anniversary of the disaster. a lawyer who represents 26 vinals says that they settled because pg&e agreed to pay amounts that finally make sense.

england. goodwin was a founding member of the media studies and wrote about music, television, and pop culture. investigators are looking into the cause of the fire in his apartment in an older home on oregon street near telegraph avenue. seven of the neighbors got out. >> fremont police are on an unusual burglary case after a curious man found stolen cremated remains and called police to the creekside village apartments finding a box along the side of the road. he opened it and found the ashes and information of the dead person. police tracked down a family member who says it was stolen from his car. officers are still looking for the thief. >> people who live in california's hotter area could get good news on electric bills but not so good for people who live along the coast because of newly approved reform legislation. the senate pass add bill to allow the public utilities commission to increase rates if those who live on the coast and

decrease rates for those in hotter inland cities. it is expected to reduce the cost for lower income and elderly in california. they will decide how much rates will go up or down and will also be able to charge $10 monthly fee to all ratepayers. supporters say the see if to make sure everyone pays for infrastructure maintenance. the legislation will also require utility oz generate more power from renewable resources such as solar and wind. the state assembly will approve the measure. >> a san jose police officer likely saved the life of a man who suffered a heart attack. the officer was patrolling a security checkpoint at san hose airport and a 43-year-old passenger collapsed and wind into cardiac arrest. the officer her the man's companion screaming for help and he grabbed a defibrillator and went to work. the 25-year veteran of the force

along northbound and southbound 880 between embarcadero to high street that is causing the slow down especially in the northbound direction and we had a few brake lights southbound direction but the project will pick unat 5:00 this morning. at the altamont pass, the traffic is starting to build so traveling along the westbound direction at 59 miles per hour is running at a decent pace. however, we see more traffic building in the eastbound direction with a project out there between flynn and a few miles beyond there and that is for drain average work so that will be around a little while longer. outside, at walnut creek, southbound direction, traffic is moving smoothly but nothing to get in the way and it is fine over to highway 24. >> a senior fire official says that the 19 firefighters who died in arizona in a wildfire might have survived if air tankers requested by the state had arrived. the division chief tells use

and we are unclear how many lanes or if any lanes are blocked but it is enough to cause slowing with the volume building in the westbound direction. 580 from tracy to castro valley is going to be 38 minutes and 101 northbound from 85 to the san jose airport is 13 minutes and 280 northbound to highway one into san francisco is under ten minutes. the commute from marin county and toward san francisco across the golden gate bridge is wide open with construction crews in the northbound direction and all cones have been picked up. san francisco city attorney has followed up on a let and filed a class action lawsuit against a state, the state of nevada. they claim that the psychiatric hospital improperly discharged hundreds of patients and put them on buss headed identity of state. 20 ended up in san francisco costing the city $500,000 for each person for shelter and

medical care. the state is suing to get the money back. >> google has lost a bid to avoid a privacy lawsuit over the street view mapping effort. three years ago the company apologized for collecting data from wireless home networks as it drove around in 30 countries. a three judge panel in san francisco says they are not exempt from federal wiretapping laws. google claims the data collected was up for grabs because the net woulds were not secured. >> you could be wasting money on food if you toss out items when they reach their expiration date. a top food safety experts at the national food laboratory in livermore says every product, the dates are for quality, not safety reasons. for example, experts say you can use eggs up to three weeks beyond the date on the carton but they have to be cooked.
