good afternoon, everybody, i'm larry beil. >> i'm carolyn johnson. emotional tributes on this 12th anniversary of the september 11th attacks bag pipes played a solemn tribute in lower manhattan. bells tolled marking the time when hijacked planes hit the towers and again, when they fell. family members talked about how the loss impacted them, reflecting pools stand at the

site of the twin towers with the name of every person who died in the attacks along the edges. >> the president marked the anniversary attending a ceremony at the pentagon. a hijacked american airlines jet was flown into the pentagon, killing 125 people inside and 59 passengers on the plane. >> they left this earth, they slipped from our grasp but it was writen what the heart has once owned and had it shall never lose. >> earlier today the president along with first lady michelle, vice president joe biden, his wife, jill, walked out of the white house at 8:46 a.m. eastern time, the moment the first plane hit the world trade center tower in new york they bowed their heads to observe a moment of silence. >> mark bingham...

>> bay area native mark bingham and allen beaven were remembered today in shanksville pennsylvania people call -- recalled the heoism. terrorists hijacked it with the likely intent of crashing it into the while the house or capitol. passengers overwhelmed the hijackers. >> here is a live picture from new york city lower manhattan. you're looking at the freedom tower, it's the primary building of the complex. standing on the northwest corner of the site. >> the bay area is also honoring victims and heroes of september 11th. >> matt keller attended ceremonies in san francisco and union city. >> flight 93 crashed on september 11th but impact was great here in the bay area. it was san francisco bound and many of the victims worked or lived here.

today, family and friends gathered at the flight 93 memorial in union city. >> feels like just yesterday. it doesn't go away. >> the ceremony was somber color guard setting the tone follow bid prayer. getting here you had to walk past remembrance stones placed in a flowing line for each person who lost their lives. the pilot grew up in san jos yai. her sister and her husband says time helped distance some of the pain, but not memories. >> this is dedicated to flight 93. and we're appreciative of the fact. jason is not forgotten along with the other victims. from 93. >> we enjoy a great extended family and there is a lot of support in -- there are nothing but good memories about jason. >> in san francisco, the bell rang at 6:59 a.m. at fire station 7.

signifying the last alarms when the world trade center's south tower collapsed. fire personnel stood at attention. the flag was lowered to half staff, then a moment of silence. fire cadets read the names of each of the 343 new york firefighters killed on september 11th. joanne hays white says she's made sure owl 43 stations hold a ceremony every year offering a lesson about the job. >> it's a career they're getting into. i think it sets a good tone for them to never forget what the skbrob. helping save lives. >> the creator of this memorial approve add proveal to build another september 11th memorial in downtown hayward.

memory. then we'll take a look at how september 11th changed our lives in the bay area. >> breaking news out of west oakland. sky 7 is over the scene of a serious injury accident at the corner of 8th and union streets. four people have been hurt. they were taken by am lieu lance including a small child who was put on a stretcher. this is happening near west oakland bart station sm. streets are closed because of the investigation. >> oakland police hope this composite sketch will help fateors catch the man who shot and killed an 8-year-old girl during a sleepover in july. she was struck by gunfire when someone fired through the front door of the apartment. two other children and their grandmother were wounded and survived. investigators still have not revealed a motive for the shooting and now, through witness descriptions police have put together the sketch of the man they believe is

responsible for the shooting. >> we have children who suffered and we have families who have lost. and we want to put an end to this case. we want to bring closure. >> investigators fanned out where the shooting happened and distributed copies this morning hoping someone might recognize the man. >> police identified snekts two unrelatedomicides last week, investigators say this man, a 27-year-old killed his father police called to a hom r.home friday night. they found the 46-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound. his son was arrested for the killing the next day. police arrested a 40-year-old in connection with a homicide on saturday. investigators say chavez kill aid mother of his children, 39-year-old martha casillas after some kind of fight. >> breaking news from northern

california a wildfire burning there claimed a life. fire officials found a body within the clover fire per perimeter. it's burning in rugged terrains in the happy valley area of shasta county. it's now 40% contained but 0 homes have been destroyed. and 30 others, damaged. >> all evacuated residents have been allowed to go back home frkts used everything to stop this fire which began sunday after the noon. containment is now expected this weekend. amy holly field talked to homeowners. >> sergio and camelar feeling relieved to have a home to return to. >> we're blessed that everything came out the way it did and there was no damage. we're just glad for the fire department.

september 11th not only marks anniversary of the terrorist attacks on u.s. soil, but also the one-year anniversary of an attack on the u.s. embassy in benghazi, libya. >> four americans were killed including ambassador christopher stevens, stevens had deep ties to the bay area, today, some are paying tribute to him. laura? >> well, tonight the piedmont school board will hold a meeting here, expected to rename a high school library for ambassador stevens, it's just one of several tributes to him here in the east bay. we're using this as an

complain to if my elderly father did not get desired wheelchair assistance at sfo? >> the airline your father was flying with. people don't understand this. airports don't deal with passengers who need a wheelchair. it's the airline. so whatever airline you're flying with, give them a cause of action they generally hup, to, over these issues. >> okay. >> carra wants to know can an employer get my credit report can w.out auj saigs? >> no. they're not supposed to be able to. when you sign up to get a job they almost x.always ask you can we look up your information, if you say no, they probably ignore your application f you say yes, they can take a look.

>> abc 7 news tells us why they needed to add more classroom autos how about lucky? some have declining enrollment the school district has seen more families trying to enroll kids. now, in the past eight years the number of students attending those schools has gone up. >> the kids are settling in? >> yes. yes. >> not too crazy? >> no. >> the long, dragged out summer ended today for thousands of students. most parents were thrilled to drop kids off at school. >> i have three boys. so it was a challenge. >> a massive $63 million construction project. six of the seven schools were gutted. smrks rebuild and upgraded.
