throughout this hotel as well. the police meantime refused to talk to us on camera but released this description of the suspect. he's 30 to 40-year-old african-american with a thin build. 5'10" and tattoo of writing on the right side of his neck. lisa amin gulezian, abc 7 news. a manhunt is underway in oakland tonight. police are searching for two men involved in a shootout outside the downtown marriott. a car driver was shot in the leg. the shooters ran off before the police arrived. it happened minutes before the ohio state football team arrived for the cal game. crime is rising in berkeley. and the police officer's association says that the problem is there are not enough officers on the street. robberies were up 25% compared to last year. and burglaries up 34% and murderers have matched last

year's total for the entire 12 months. berkeley's police chief will present the numbers to the city council on tuesday. new at 11:00, a bay area connection to the deaths of two children in orange county. a woman tried to kill herself by ramming her car into an electrical vault. her comments led police to the bodies of her children in a hotel room. the woman will be booked on two counts of suspicion of murder. the families of five men reported missing in san francisco are hoping to focus new attention on the cases tonight. we met with the families and we have more on the renewed efforts to find the men. >> reporter: this weekend posters have been popping up in neighborhoods around san francisco. sean disappeared back in may. his family put together an event at golden gate park earlier today. they are hoping that new tips will help police find him and

other missing people. at golden gate park these parents share hugs and smiles. unfortunately what unites them is a sense of loss. they are the parents of five young men who have gone missing in san francisco and they have come together to raise awareness. >> grown men and women who are adults are just as important. >> reporter: tricia flew here to be a part of the event. their son went missing two years ago, jackson miller in may of 2010, cameron in october of 2011, and sean she citi disappeared this may. their families say each has some type of psychological issue that may have prompted their disappearances. >> he has a mental disorder and he is an adult. if he chooses to stay on the streets i don't like it but i'm

okay with that. >> this event was put together in part by the family of sean city. since he went missing in may his family has been posting signs in san francisco. the bruckers say their son may have last been spotted in the haight-ashbury district. >> two years of my life. >> reporter: shawn's dad hopes someone may take a picture or give some video to police. police are investigating a car accident that killed a teenager and injured a second person. it happened shortly after 7:00 last night. investigators say the car hit a curb and slammed into a tree. now to developing news out of colorado where flood waters are still rising tonight. five have died and thousands have been forced to flee their

homes. convoys have evacuated 1200 people and officials are saying to leave now or they may not get another chance for a while. >> reporter: hundreds of national guard troops braving the flood waters, driving impassable streets picking up stranded families, children and pets and important personal belongings stashed in suitcases. nearly 7,000 people have been evacuated so far. saturday officials order even more mandatory evacuations. this drone video shows the power of the raging riff and the neighborhood is devastated. the mountains of water have torn apart streets and damaged bridges and torn apart computers. >> a lot of people have been stranded. >> reporter: more than a dozen helicopters are the only connection between stranded residents and the outside world. >> i think what we have going on here in the last 24 hours is a greatest number of americans rescued by helicopter since

focussed to the north and eastern part of the state. but a flood warning is in effect until tomorrow morning. they have seen from 9 to 15 inches of rain in this area. and flooding with an additional inch of rain is possible tomorrow. by monday they will dry out for several days. we have changing in our other forecast we'll talk about in a couple minutes. the fire in contra costa county is fully contained. it has burned 3100 acres. it forced evacuations but did not burn any homes. firefighters expect to have the rim fire burning near yosemite national park contained by friday. it has burned 255,000 acres and 81% contained. the highway reopened this afternoon and a team of scientists looking into the damage expect to have their

the season ticket holders are getting recorded phone messages this weekend. the giants say the drill went very well. they hope to do it next time using thousands of fan volunteers to make the whole experience a bit more real. in san francisco, cornell barnard, abc 7 news. the raiders hosted a 5 k ready for football run at o.co coliseum. the team has been holding events during brady week. the raiders host the jaguars on sunday. there was a raucous ramp up for the miss america's pageant. it was the show us your shoes parade. all 53 contestants raised their legs to show their style. miss california is a san francisco native, crystal lee. you can see the pageant tomorrow night on abc 7 starting at 9:00.

abc 7 reporters hosted a gala dinner for a special cause tonight. this was the 26th annual chinese american fundraiser and achievement awards. no winner for tonight's power ball drawing. the ninth largest jackpot in history. one player in california won nearly $2.5 million. next tuesday's draw willing at least be $400 million. the players taking the cash option could win $223 million. here are the winning numbers. let's get a check on the weather. >> we had a nice afternoon. the winds picked up and we saw hardly any clearing though. it took time in oakland as well.

but the fag will move back across the bay for tonight. and that will allow for conditions to be pretty gray tomorrow when we wake up. so we'll look for things to change in the short term and when that does happen, we'll look for probably a repeat performance of this. temperatures in the lower 70s. oakland that was the high. 88 in antioch and 79 in morgan hill. so as we take a look at what -- our high temperatures or temperatures right now, mainly in the 50s, san francisco, 60 in oakland and 60 in san jose. the forecast then the highlights tonight. low clouds and fog move across the bay. plenty of sun for sunday and warmer days throughout the middle of the week. the lows in the low 50s to the north. mid-50s in morgan hill. and the low clouds and fog will peel back. we will see some clearing all the way to the coast tomorrow. this area of low pressure

good evening. tonight's headlines, a manhunt is underway for the person who sexually assaulted a hotel housekeeper. the attack took place at the doubletree hotel. a man with a knife grabbed the housekeeper from behind, dragged her into a bedroom and assaulted her. the parents of five men who disappeared in san francisco tried to bring attention to their cases today. the parents just want to know if their parents are alive. it has taken six days but the fire at mount diablo state park is contained. 3100 acres have burned. the estimated cost to fight the fire is $4.5 million. an agreement was reached today on securing and destroying

syria's chemical weapon's stockpile. it averts the threat of u.s. military action. but it will require one of the most ambitious military breakthrough in history. >> the united states and russia are committed to the elimination of syrian chemical weapons in the soonest and safest manner. >> reporter: the deal is tough on syria which is in the midst of a civil war. within one week, the country must account for all of its chemical weapons and say where they are stored. under the agreement, international inspectors would be on the ground by november with weapons destroyed or removed by mid 2014, including some of the nerve gas that exploded in syrian neighborhoods

released. a google street view driver is in police custody after crashing to two cars while trying to drive away from police following an earlier crash. the driver was behind the wheel of a sub rosales rue with the google logo on the roof. over the last few years about 36,000 people were given disability payments they were not eligible for. to qualify recipients go through a five-month waiting period. in one case a physician was earning $22,000 a month and paid $90,000 in benefits over three years. the government will recoup any improperly payments. the oldest man in the world has died. he was 112 years old. he died yesterday at a nursing home in new york.

at it again. predators trying to trick bay area residents into wiring money to a con artist. one woman tried to catch a thief and we were there. >> the letters looked enticing and phony. it said she won a big cash prize in a drawing sponsored by several major retailers. >> it has walgreens, safeway, serious. >> she had to cash this check for $2400 and use it to pay a $980 tax and fedex would deliver

her prize. >> at first i went this is cool but then yeah, right. who is giving me $15,000. >> reporter: lisa called the bank and sure enough, this $2400 check is a fake. if it she would have send the $980 it would have gone to the thieves. lisa called the number in the letter. a man picked up and told her to cash the check and call back. >> i said i cashed the check. and he said, oh, okay. well, you need to go to wal-mart now. >> reporter: he wanted her to buy a $980 money order from wal-mart and call back. now we are there can when lisa calls back. the same man picks up and asks for her reference number. from that, he knew her name and

address, which she found a little creepy. >> call her tomorrow before 9:00. julia jones. >> reporter: the man says that julia would tell her where to send the money. he hangs up abruptly. he said i'm to call after i get the check. >> reporter: valley saw found dozens of people received the same fake check and contest. lisa thought i should warn you not to fall for these rackets. if you receive a promise of riches that seems to good to be real it's a ripoff. >> i said how come there is no money in that bank and he hung up on me. >> this letter had all the classic seens of fraud. it claims you won money and provides a check made out to you and use it to pay a fee.

if you deposit a phony check your bank will credit your account at first but when it bounces you lose the money. don't fall for it. the roar of 130 dragons could be heard in the bay today as a colorful event is back in full swing. the annual dragon boat races kicked off this morning. the races continue tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. another popular event is back in full swing this weekend. the chocolate festival is expected to draw 35,000 people. it goes from noon until 5:00 tomorrow. it raises money for a non-profit that feeds ailing and elderly people in the bay area. you know, clouds have been slow to move in. we will see more of an onshore flow as the area of low pressure
