san francisco. >> a club goer in san francisco is in critical condition this morning after a taxi hit him in the north beach area. abc7 news reporter cornell bernard is on the scene in broadway. >> witnesses are not surprised this accident happened. police have cleared the scene where the pedestrian was struck by a taxicab along broadway. remnants of the police tape are here. it happened at the old crowbar lounge before midnight. police say the taxicab was traveling down broadway and hit a man in his 30's. he was treatied on the scene and taken to the hospital. the injuries are considered life threatening. the man may have been jaywalking across broadway. he says it is a very dangerous practice. it happens way too often. >> it is good to go to the crosswalk and wait for the light.

that would not happen unless there are security or police here to make it happen. >> lots of bars and restaurants along broadway. the taxicab driver was questioned at the seen and not arrested. we don't know how fast the cab was going. the speed him along broadway is 25 miles per hour. >> thank you. autopsies will be conducted on they women who died if the house fire in pittsburg that broke out before 12:30 yesterday morning at a home. investigators say all three women, all family members, lived at home. they were sheeping when the fire started but received no warning because the house didn't have working smoke alarms. >> the alarms give you the few seconds that make the difference between life-and-death.

if they had working smoke alarms in would be a different outcome. >> now the latest on colorado where communities remain cut off because of massive flooding in the region. authorities say hundreds were forced to respond the night on higher ground after heavy rain forced rescue operations to pause. five people have been killed by flooding which began last week. more than 1,200 people are still not accounted for and authorities say a thousand people have been dismissed and are seeking refuge in two dozen shelters. sacramento teens are safe this morning after a close call with a colorado storm. they were camping at a ranch outside denver when the storms began. they made it out just fine. >> we had a small window of opportunity and we traveled down safely. we took our time. we made it in the perfect window. >> another group of students was camping in the same area and had to be rescued by helicopter.

>> oakland police are investigating a shooting that left a man in critical condition but it is not clear where the shooting took place. the "contra costa times" reports he was found with gunshot wounds around 9:00 last night. no one in the neighborhood reported hearing gunfire but an the same time the city's shot spot are technology detected gunfire near 5th avenue and international boulevard. police believe he may have been shot there before driving a mile and a half to where he was found. >> closing argument and jury instructions are expected in marin in the penalty phase of the fire of convicted serial killer joseph naso. a jury found him guilty of charges of killing four northern california women in the 1970's and 1990's, all with the same initials with first and last names. the 79-year-old is eligible for the death penalty. if the jury does not agree on the death penalty he will receive life in prison.

>> the woman accused of attacking 1960's soul icon lester chambers of the chambers brothers is due in court for arraignment. the 43-year-old woman faces charges of felony assault and elder abuse. the 73-year-old chambers was seriously injured when potter climbed on stage and shoved him during a july music festival in hayward. chambers dedicated a song to trayvon martin, the florida teen, shot to death. >> this morning, an investigation is underway in san francisco where a running shoe was found with human foot inside. this was no sign of the rest of the body. according to the medical examiner it appears it was in the water for a while and found inside a size 11 1/2 green and black puma sneaker. >> judge is expected to issue a ruling on a legal challenge to

richmond's plan to use imminent domain to stem foreclosures to seize mortgages of homes that are underwater and offer the mortgages back to home owners at cheaper rates. it is usually used to require private land for must public us. deutsche bank claims this is unconstitutional. half the homeowners have mortgages on homes worth less than what is out on them. >> congresswoman lee will be at the alameda county food bank to address a new bill that could slash nutrition programs. the farm bill will be vote the on by the house of representatives this weekend containing $40 billion in proposed cuts to nutrition, safety net programs. lee will address the cuts and how it can hurt food banks, food stamp benefits and free lunch programs at schools. >> driving in this morning i had to turn on the windshield wipers. mike? >> near the coast and on the peninsula that is where you will find the moisture and even along the east bay hills as you drive

thursday so warming is back and just when you think we will get the summer heat, another cold front is on the way in the seven-day forecast and the possibility of rain. leyla gulen? >> we do have traffic building in the east bay over the altamont pass and highway 4 so if you are traveling out of antioch into concord you can see the speeds are dipping down but the yellow indicates we have plenty of volume with red popping up. we have stop-and-go track ask we are seeing it had area as we continue beyond pittsburg it is clear into concord. you have light at the end of the tunnel. 80 westbound from albany to the maze is five minutes and 880, southbound, from fremont to san jose, 15 minutes nearby 280 from 101 to cupertino, that is 13 minutes. speaking of san jose, we will go outside and look at 280 ambassador from 17, three or four cars northbound direction and not much traffic southbound and everything is clear and

to fairfield at 21 miles per hour. you can see the clouds hanging over the bay bridge, hard to see the top of it so we have the mist and drizzle. mainly on this side of the bay. it could be on the other side, as well, if you drive into it but i did not have any on the tunnel. sunny this afternoon, cooler-than-average, that is our first forecast highlight, limited warning, limited to wednesday and thursday because it is going to be cooler with a chance of rain friday and the cooler weather will linger through the weekend. today, 78 in san jose and 79 in santa cruz and los gatos at mid-80's. mid-to-upper 70's for the pension that and hitting 88 in los altos and 69, though, in ill -- millbrae, pacifica is a warm spot. upper 60's to low 70's for downtown and south san francisco and sausalito and upper 70's to low 80's through the north bay valley and napa is a warm spot at 82.

street. it will be warmest inland at 78 in the north bay to 85 in the east bay. warmer around the bay at 70 to 80 and the coast in san francisco is mid-to-upper 60's and sunshine at the coast today. leyla gulen? >> did somebody say "doughnuts." did you bring some doughnuts? >> i wish. everyone, at 5:30 we have a report of debris in the lanes but not any kind of debris an entire mattress open westbound highway 4. that is what causing the heavy, heavy backup. we are starting to see a buildup of volume but this is making it worse. we are bumper to bumper. if you ditching the car, everything is on time, bart and muni. the san mateo bridge shows clear conditions but 14 minutes to get you in the westbound direction.

>> autopsies are scheduled for three killed in a fire in pittsburg. authorities are aware of one disturbing detail about the smoke detectors. abc7 news reporter amy hollyfield joins with more from pittsburg. amy? >> they had smoke detectors but they were missing a key component: firefighters found them on the kitchen county with no batteries. investigators think the alarms would have made a huge difference in this case. the three women living inside the pittsburg home died in the fire. a woman who later stopped by the house said that one of the victims was her sister and all three were related. >> firefighters think they were sleeping when the fire starts. that was after midnight. it spread to the next door neighbor's home but everyone

else managed to get out. firefighters are hoping an autopsy, the autopsy results will help figure out the cause. >> more developing news: a man is in custody after leading police on a chase and crashing into a woman in another car sending her to the hospital. it started in san lenadro at 11:15 at san lenadro street and 100th avenue. police officers were pulling over the driver when he sped away, the driver made it to oakland before hitting another car and a building on 98th avenue. authorities do not know why he took off. >> he has some history, criminal history. we are looking at those factors. >> the man was arrested and the or driver, a woman, was taken to the hospital with no word on her condition. >> in colorado, rescue attempts begin for people stranded by massive flooding. downpours grounded rescue

operations forcing national guardmen and first responders to spend the night on higher ground. emergency officials say several towns remain cut off this morning by the method waters which stretched 200 miles. five people are confirmed dead and 19,000 homes have been damaged or destroyed. >> bay area red cross volunteers are already in colorado to help. so far, only a few volunteers from the silicon valley chapter have been dispatched but more will be sent if flooding conditions. the nonstop rain has been a challenge. >> they can not run the helicopters in the rain in this weather. it is too dangerous. the people who are waiting to be airlifted have another night on the mountain. >> the red cross says 1,900 people are in temporary shelters and hundreds remain unaccounted for. to keep track of everyone the red cross is asking evacuees to log into their website at

>> covering santa clara, san francisco, east bay and all bay area, this is abc7 news. >> good morning, everyone, at 5:41 a look from the east bay camera to the new eastern span of the bay bridge. it is still a gorgeous site. traffic is moving along without any trouble. leyla gulen will check the traffic coming up. engineers have succeeded in removing the hull of the shipwrecked "costa concordia" where it has been embedded for 20 months in a reef. here is a look at the work being done on the ship off the coast of it that. the "costa concordia" capsized in january of last year. engineers say it took three hours to get the hull to move
