was a ticking time bomb on a final decent into madness. no one connected the dots. on august 7, aaron alexis called the newport police in rhode island with a story documented in a police report obtained by abc7 news describing a confrontation with an unidentified person would sent three people to follow him and keep him awake by talking to him and sending vibrations to his body through a microwave machine. sources say that aaron alexis sought help from v.a. hospitals in rhode island and washington, dc, for insomnia but will not discuss his mental state. >> i cannot comment. >> two days before the navy yard rampage, he visited a gun store and firing range in virginia. eyewitnesses are describing a determined killer, with a man were watching the suspect murder six of his friends. >> i popped my head up and i saw him pointing his gun at my

>> live from the kgo-tv broadcast center this is abc7 news. >> good wednesday morning at 5:30. thanks for waking up early and joining us. >> we have developing news in san francisco where an early morning brushfire broke out along highway 101 forcing the c.h.p. to shut down several lanes of traffic. that is where we fine abc7 news reporter amy hollyfield with the latest. >> busy highway 101 in urban san francisco is not exactly where you would expect to see a grass fire but check out this video. it happened around 1:30 this morning. this is southbound 101 and authorities had to shut down a couple of lanes while they fought this fire and it spread to the bushes and even to a tree

along the highway. authorities have not figured out the cause but there are belongings that looked like people were possibly living there. authorities stopped someone later in the city for questioning but determined they had manage to do with it. it is still under investigation. it took them 15 minutes to get the fire out but all lanes have been re-opened and the sig-alert has been canceled. >> breaking news in the south bay, an elderly woman was taken to the hospital in the past hour after a fire in san jose breaking out in the front room of her home. the firefighters credit the smoke detectors with seaing her life. she woke to the noise and was able to make it out safely. the woman suffered smoke inhalation and is get checked out right now. >> calmer now, but year's strong wins shut down part of the great

shooter's mental state and a possible lack of communication between agencies helping him with his mental problems. police in rhode island say they encountered aaron alexis in august and he told them voices were harassing him and following him and now, overnight we learned law enforcement sources have told abc7 news that aaron alexis sought help from v.a. hospitals in washington, dc, and rhode island but for insomnia. however, despite that and prior arrests involving guns he was able to keep his security clear an. >> certainly not commendable offenses for a navy sailor, don't rise to the level that would instantly call for a revocation of security clearance. a senior official confirms to abc7 news that defense secretary hagel intends to order a review of physical security and access at all defense department installations worldwide and the secretary could have an announcement on the findings as soon as today. analysts are working to
