>> abc7 news starts right now with breaking news. >> a cow ward came out in the middle of the night and fired aimlessly at this home. >> breaking news. a 10-year old hayward girl is recoverying after somebody shot into the family home in the middle of the night. why didn't they call police right away? good morning. >> right now police need help in catching the gunman who opened fire on the home at 2:00 this morning. our reporter joins us from hayward. >> absolutely, this is very much an active scene. they said we need to hurry up and move along. they are asking the public for

help to identify the shooter or shooters that fired into the home. this is the house. you can see the back windshield was also hit by bullets. neighbors heard shots and the sound of a car drive away. police confirm multiple shots were fired into the home. some of them hit the parked car in drive. the ten-year-old was hit by a bullet while sleeping in bed. our cameras captured the detectives examining a bullet left in the siding. detectives are looking into why the occupants waited so long to call police. they say multiple shots were fired around 2:00 a.m. target the home on tampa avenue but it was not reported to police until after 7:30 this morning. that is more than five hours later. they called, a woman inside the home, who report add child had been shot. police are speaking with the neighbors and the adults of the home to get answers. >> we are speaking to the

parents and the siblings to make sure we want the child okay and her to come out unscarred as possible both hen tale and physically. second, we want to elect the suspect and bring justice to what they did. what they did was cowardly. >> this is a view from sky 7, investigators sealed off the area after responding to the initial 1991 call. -- initial 9-1-1 call. this is an area of known gang activity. it could have been a targeted shooting or case mistaken identity. the occupants of the home have only been living here a month, less than 15 seconds ago, before we went on air, we saw the family drive away. they did not want to answer our questions. police are asking anyone with information about this early morning shooting contact the hayward police department.

>> in hayward for abc7 news. >> c.h.p. is looking for the person who shot out windows on passing cars on busy highway 101 during yesterday's evening commute in san jose. abc7 news reporter katie marzullo is at c.h.p. office in san jose. katie? >> c.h.p. officer here at the headquarters tells me they received 12 reports from people who say their cars were hit by something but they have only been able to confirm nine victims. this evidence is still very clear on the southbound lanes in san jose you can see piles of shattered glass on the shoulder and the c.h.p. says most of the damage was done to the right-hand windows of people's car and the damage is consistent with b.b. gun. it and a who done it and c.h.p. does not have much to go open. >> we have no suspect information out. we do not know if there was a car involved. a period. it happened near the railroad so

we know people walk over there but it at this point it is undetermined. >> the chop is treating this as vandalism or freeway violence and they say as you would imagine it is a dangerous situation, someone do have been hit by broken glass and gotten glass in their eye and caused a bad car accident. they want to solve this case if you have any information about what has happened you are asked to call the c.h.p. or if you are a three victim, you are asked to call the c.h.p. happening now the golden gate bridge is a step closer to having a movable safety barrier. this is a picture of the golden gate bridge which would be shut down for a weekend next year for installation. meetings are taking place now with a vote tomorrow. abc7 news reporter amy hollyfield joins us. >> the presentation is going on right new. look inside.

i want you to see what is happening. the chief engineer is right now telling the board of directors this is a big moment for the bridge with cars in the opposite direction of dangerously close separated only by plastic cones. the idea being proposed today is to buy a concrete barrier that was custom-made for the golden gate bridge. today's proposal is considered a formality but a board member told us they still have a lot to consider today before they vote. >> we want everyone to understand what it will mean that bridge lanes are more narrow and how it will complicate that or add to problems. we have work to do on both ends of the bridge and a 52 hour closure to come to grips with. there are things to talk about. >> the closure he is talking
